Team Builder Deluxe! Coming soon?
This would certainly be one good way to retool the City Terminals into something useful.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
We have no idea how they are going to do it, but the Devs have said they are working on a system to make teaming easier. Who knows, maybe it will be something similar to this.
Or maybe something completely different
However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator
Perhaps the moment you set yourself to "Looking For Team" or "Looking for Trial," you will be automatically placed onto a team (regardless of level - yikes!) that has designated as being a team of that nature (running missions, patrol, strike-forces, etc.)
That would be BAD! It has to be a separate, optional system.
Dec out.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
I...saw something I shouldn't have and am not talking. Feel free to be encouraged, though.

Nothing turns people anti-social faster than forcing them to team with people they didn't go looking for.
Sometimes I feel they should force people to automatically set to LFT so they consciously have to turn it off instead. More then not you have many people LFT all over the game but never really put themselves LFT. Or have a button that allows you to personally set if you want to be LFT when your not in a team. Every time I log in, it is the first thing I do is put myself LFT. Even my comments says always LFT.
Lets hope it does get introduced with GR or I16 as someone posted.

Dec out.
Just to note...nope. I'm not in the beta. What I saw was here (a post mistakenly on the wrong board) which was quickly removed. Just "fair play" NDA of my own.

I highly suspect that an auto-team feature like they have in WoW could only help the game. It would go a long way to shut people up that they can't find teams, and it might make the game feel much more populated if every time you went "I want to be on a team right about now!" the computer replied "OK! You're on a team right about now! Enjoy!" Ease of access and cutting out the middle man would help team-minded people a LOT.
Interestingly, it would help anti-social dicks like me, as well. I don't tend to join many teams in City of Heroes because if I play with people, I want to play with people, not mute bots who just need another set of hands at the keyboard. Teaming by person-to-person communication is personal, and as such I'm unlikely yo bother. Teaming via soulless auto-team robot, on the other hand, is impersonal, and I would be very much convinced to use it as a regular tool. If I join a team in such a way, I won't care much for socialising with my team-mates. I'll just worry about grabbing some experience and not getting dead.
It's a lot like teaming in your run-of-the-mill online FPS game, like Battlefield 2142 that I keep bringing up. In that game, I can team without a qualm, but I view the rest of my team as background noise. We try to work together, but we don't try to greet each other. That sort of system will make pick-up groups a LOT easier to run with, because they'll be a lot easier to swap in and out of.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

While I agree with all this from Sam's point of view, I also agree with it from the reverse. It would make it much easier for social groups to find social people as well.
I think it's just all the way around a great idea for helping everyone.

Hey, check out this. Either scroll down to the middle of the very long page or do a content search on it for "recruit". Looks perfect and it's already built by NCSoft and active in an NCSoft game.

If they implemented something like this, I think auto-accept should also be an option. I hate it when I get my screen filled up with Wentworths ad Recipes and Salvage (Turning the volume down to so I can think), then clear it all away to find a team invite I didn't see and is no longer valid because "my" spot is now filled (probably by someone who JUST logged on).
We have no idea how they are going to do it, but the Devs have said they are working on a system to make teaming easier. Who knows, maybe it will be something similar to this.
Or maybe something completely different ![]() |
Now that I've finally been able to share the idea, the devs will probably scrap whatever they were working on and implement my concept instead.
Just kidding.
Be interesting to see what they come up with. Whatever it is, I'm ready for it if it helps those of us who find the existing process kind of grueling sometimes.
You may be one of the majority of players who loves being on a team, but are are more comfortable having someone else lead it and select the missions. To get onto one of those teams, you have to rely on the limited, human perception of the team leader and the rough recruiting tools at his/her disposal. It sucks boogers when you have been diligently advertising your desire to get onto a team for almost an hour, and someone else with a similar build who just logged on gets invited right away because you didn't advertise at the exact moment the leader was looking to fill a slot.
Well, no more my friend! Introducing the Team Builder Deluxe! Now, you simply need to log onto on of our kiosks and register your desire to be placed on a team. Indicate what kind of team you desire and how many hours you expect to stay online. Desire to be on a balanced team, with a wide variety of archetypes? Won't play without a tanker or defender? Want to be a team leader? Don't care? Check all that apply, then simply wait. The Team Builder Deluxe will assemble a team based on your criteria, invite all the players automatically, including the team leader. If someone logs off, the leader simply queues the Team Builder to provide another one, based on whomever is next in line/is the appropriate archetype, etc. Dc'd? Return to the game within 3 minutes and your spot will be waiting for you. If it takes you longer than 3 minutes, just back into our kiosk when you do return and you'll be reinvited to the same team the first time someone leaves.
---
Do you all think this would work? I would love to just log on, register to be invited, then wait for my invite to pop up. I think this would be especially useful on some the lighter servers, where I sometimes have to log off in frustration because my character wasn't able/ready to solo yet and I couldn't get invited to a team. Imagine a server where only 8 people currently logged on want to be on a team and the Builder brings them altogether very quickly. Chime in with your thoughts or refinements, please.
