Question after 2 years
More entertainment for those who enjoy a bigger challenge, pretty much.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
If i remember correctly, setting a timer to the challenge will give a slight XP bonus when completed within the time constraint.

I don't remember this, but I can't refute it. To the laboratory!
The Story of a Petless MM with a dream
I have a 50 in every AT, but Scrappers and Dominators are my favorites.
I can refute it. In fact, I do so right now: the challenge settings do nothing, except make the arc more difficult. In Ouroboros, this may result in a badge--but no other reward. In a TF/SF, this may result in a Master Of badge--but no other reward. It's just to see if you can do it. There was talk, way back, about getting more rewards outside of the proportional increase in inf/xp you get for fighting higher level foes (IE more merits, etc.), but nothing happened.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
And BAB said that (paraphrasing) if the challenges gave rewards, failing the challenges should have similar punishments (eg: succeeding the time challenge gives +X influence, failing the challenge costs you X influence). He also said that it was his personal opinion, not the general opinion of the development team, particularly since he wouldn't be in charge of such a task if it were to be implemented.

That's a shame.
Well, I'm glad that BABs is only in charge of animation, then, because needless player punishments was the reason I quit Final Fantasy XI before I really started. Having a game take away stuff from me is a sure-fire way to make me needlessly angry at it.

to be fair, he only said that would be in place if you were also "gambling" on higher rewards, so it does make sense from a gaming perspective. FFXI relied more on old and thankfully outdated game mechanics for its punishing mechanics, including the deleveling that made me leave the game, but so long as you still were guaranteed the base reward if you didnt gamble, that is not as comparably bad as ff's punishments. It woudl make me a great deal more cautious about what kind of tf i was joining though. that and he is the lead animator and didnt have to worry about being responsible for making this call

Well, I can see that reasoning. It'd be a mechanic I'd never use myself, though, so as long as it doesn't affect me negatively, I'd just be ambivalent towards it.
Right, BAB was essentially talking about gambling for better rewards; and gambling's no fun if there's no chance for loss. (Or, rather, if there's no chance for loss, it isn't really gambling.)

I think it's great that there are options now to increase difficulty on TF/SF/Flashbacks, but aside from the possible title/badge is there anything of benefit? More influence drops? Chance for recipe drops increased?
