What are some good powerset combos that show good synergy?

Synergy Failure : Stone/Fire Brutes. On paper the two sets complement each other really well. Tonnes of control in the primary to keep things in Burn patches and supplement Fire Armours relatively weak resists, AOE damage in Burn and Blazing Aura to augment Stones rather mediocre AOE damage and Consume to help with the horrendous End costs all round.

In practice it just doesn't manage to come together though and feels clunky. Burn doesn't play well with Fury, End Costs are still horrible and all that knockdown and stunning still doesn't completely counter the Burn scatter.

If we're talking about synergy purely through power interaction, he're's how I'd look at it:

Synergy through compensation:
When the powerset closes a weakness in the primary/secondary. Dark melee is an example of this in many cases, as it supplies a fast recharging heal/endurance boost to many armor sets that lack a heal or have a high endurance cost. Katana and Broadsword supply defense to sets that are easy to hit. You get the idea.

Synergy through layering:
When both the primary and secondary have an ability that can be combined to greater effect. Electric blast and kinetics both have endurance drains, so this combo is very good at sapping. A power that lowers accuracy works well with defense that makes enemies have difficulty landing hits anyway, which is why dark works well with defense. (Think dark blast/cold domination or something similar.)

Synergy through setup:
One power lets another do something it couldn't usually do as well. Tenebrous tentacles from dark blast can immobilize a group inside of a lighted oilslick, and other trick arrow locational debuffs, ensuring the foes take the fullest possible damage/debuff. A wormhole can teleport a group of foes directly onto a minefield, so all foes get hit.

Synergy through position:
Powers from the primary/secondary that all have the same positional limits, making the character capable of executing attacks in easy succession. Think powers that can all be activated from range, or powers that can all be used from the middle of a group of enemies.

If you can get powers that have as many of the above as possible, you'll find good synergy.

One nice layering synergy- Rad/Psi defender lets you, if things get a little hairy, throw down two large -Rech effects at once, flooring enemy recharge and giving you four times as long to get your feet back under you.

Rad usually has enough protection without flooring enemy recharge, but I may have been spoiled by playing on teams with several players who were competent and awake.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

In terms of AoE/ST damage and survivability, of course. Emp/Elec's not a bad combo for a nice duo/support char..

Assault Rifle and Storm Summoning (corruptor or defender versions). Lots of AoE debuffs and damage.

Nah, I'm not the type to do that. Was just being (not very) funny. Although I don't really play that character much TBH...

Fire/Storm corr.

Freezing Rain contains -def, -res, -spd, and knockdown. It can also be slotted with the -res proc.

Rain of Fire contains -spd and tons of damage. The stacked -spd and kd keeps foes safe and flopping around on the ground. Then you're free to blast away with fireball and fire breath to finish everything off.

It's up every spawn so you get to provide a crapload of damage mitigation for your team and enough damage to make Fire/Darks wet their pantaloons.

Storm/Energy defender: Everything --> over there, all the time. IO out with ranged defense. The only melee attacks you have to take are debuffed by Hurricane. Energy/Energy blasters can do something similar with Boost Range on top of the knockback, and either Repulsion Field or Bonfire in the epics.

Also agree on the aforementioned Dark/Sonic and Storm/Dark over Dark/Dark, as well as Ice/Ice blasters being a good thing. And Sonic/Energy blasters. The sleep recharges fast, can be buffed with Power Boost, as can the stuns, which stack. Good for blapping.

Dark Armor/Dark Melee tanks can be pretty survivable, if not terribly original, and have useful control effects. Even if someone steals your aggro, there's a good chance the mobs are debuffed, stunned, feared, etc.
