Suggestion: Trial Accounts
Oh wow ! Thank you for your "In B4" comment!
I looked on Gamestop and saw you could pre-order the "going rogue" thing for $40 and thought that was it god I feel like a noob!
You don't know how happy your post just made me to find a place that has it for 5 bucks! I am so gonna go buy it =D
But even so on a more serious note. People shouldn't have to feel like they have to go buy it just to be able to start forging friendships during their trial account.
Because in a game like this making a few friends could be the dealbreaker for some for buying a game and not buying it ....because gee it is an online game after all so for some meeting people is important.
Welcome to the City (and the madhouse )
And yeah, people have for a long time expressed displeasure with how limiting the trial version can be at times.
One way that may help is clicking on the 'Team' tab and editing the Message there to say 'Trial account, cannot respond to tells, please invite' or something similar. That way people will know to simply invite you. I saw that a few times in game, and they really should make that a 'built in' feature.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Oh thank you for the tip! I didn't know that I could write a message for others to see that will be really helpful until my game comes so that I can upgrade!
The forums are a good place to start for help =]
Although be wary, I do mean madhouse quite literally >_> And thats just the average poster.
Out here there be monsters

You wouldn't believe the number of times I've seen someone tell a person on a trial account that they should just pick up the game from Big Lots for $5 or $10 bucks, or the Amazon comment I jokingly referred too above.
That being said there are some advantages to buying cheap copies of previous editions that are on sale. And I'm not just referring to the free 30 days you get with each one.
Good Vs Evil comes with three exclusive in-game items: jump pack prestige power; "Pocket D" VIP card teleport power; hero and villain costume pieces.
Mac Edition comes with a Mission Teleporter Power, and the Valkyrie themed costume set (available to both Heroes and Villains from level one)
Architect Edition allows you to choose either the Super Booster I: Cyborg pack or the Super Booster II: Magic pack for free
The problem is that reply happens client side.
When you reply the client just tries to send a tell.
To allow trial accounts to reply the reply function would either need to be moved to the server or the server will have to be changes to check the recipient before it denies.
I like the second idea because then you can send tells to anyone who has messaged you while you were on.
Ya I was looking at the different reward things on this wiki I found. I really like the magic one but I think the $5 version of the game is more in my price range then the $20 version of it.. atleast for now hehe. I would really like that magic outfit set though so perhaps I would be able to get it one day :3

When buying these games from Amazon just take the precaution to only get the ones that say factory sealed. Don't fall for the used ones or if they say they checked the game and it works. Those are the ones where they used the game code and that copy of the game is actually worthless.
Other than that you can get some great bargains for the various editions. Just check from time to time as they become available sporadically. And even $10 bucks is a bargain.
Oh and please be aware that you can only have one (1) of each edition applied to your account. You can't use the codes for two Good vs Evil on one account.
Oh and I just remembered the explanation people use when they advise people to buy a cheap copy of the game.
It goes like this. If someone buys the game for $5 or $10 bucks they get that first 30 days for free. What else can you buy that gives you that kind of bargain. Movies cost $15 - $20 and only last about 2 hours.
Now I'm not saying that's a valid argument. I live on disability and there have been months when I had to sell blood plasma to make ends meet and keep my account active. So I know what it's like to be flat broke. Broke and I are well acquainted. Broke comes over to visit me all the time.
Broke sucks he should go to his own home and stop bothering us! lol
So I can buy say architect first and then the good vs evil and add them both to my account for the stuff?
Do I also get then 2 months of free game time since they both come with a month?

And yes.
I wanted to buy the magic booster, but instead bought the Architect edition for $20. It gave me a free month plus the booster, so it's like I only spent $5 on the magic pack.
Much later, I just bought the GvE edition for another free month plus goodies for another $20.

I just wanted to thank every one who has been so helpful! Sometimes on forums for games you find some rather impolite people. I am sure they exist but I am happy I found the helpful ones first! =D
I can't wait for my game to arrive.. the only downfall of buying it for cheaper... the wait of continuing to suffer (lol) on a trial >_<

Another thing to be aware of. If you become attached to the characters on your trial account and want to keep them make sure you choose to upgrade that account when you apply the new game code.
You'd be surprised how often people mistakenly start a separate account, and I don't think Customer Service can merge the two accounts.

That is something they seriously need to do. If /reply won't work due to it being client based, then just make the trial account restriction client based too.
The potential risk of a person hacking the game to send tells could be dealt with by making a limit to tells per hour, or better, number of distinct people you can send per hour, just like the email cap stopped email spam. With that system you could even make tells available to trial accounts in general.
A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!
..stoping spammers...making the best of new blood via the trails...never is gonna be easy.. but at least your enjoying it ^^ welcome to the white room and yes we do offer extra padding muahahaha

What I wish they would do is have an auto response to any tell to a trial account like they do when you are AFK. That way the person sending the tell knows that the other person can't reply.

To the "stopping spammers" comment. You wouldn't be spamming if you were simply responding to a tell that you received from someone already.
I can understand trials being unable to send tells as spammer protection but not when someone has actually spoken to them.
My comment was more towards.
Random person: Hey want to join my team?
Me: YA SURE!
-----You cannot send tells lol trial account---
Me: *FROWN FACE*
--------------------
DocArcus -- That is actually a really nice suggestion too. I always feel bad that I can't respond in any form, it would be nice if they atleast knew why I didn't respond instead of just assuming I am rude lol
The reason it's there to stop spammers is because the engine cannot tell the difference between a reply and a tell. It's the same thing, so to stop trials from doing one prevents the other.

I don't need an explanation of why it is there I already stated a few times that I understand it provides spamming protection but suggesting that legitimate trial users be permitted to atleast respond to a tell isn't unreasonable.
It is hard to enjoy an online game when it is difficult to communicate with other players.
Another option that you can try if you get a tell.
Type in /search and find out what zone the character is in, go to that zone and send a /broadcast (zone wide) or /local (close area) comment saying you'd like to join their team. It's not as efficient but it can still get the job done.

Basically, Trial versions are extremely, almost chokingly gutted on the communications front. I'm not even sure they are allowed team chat...or was that not allowed to invite people?
While I realise all the safeguards in place to stop RMT and spammers...there is a line to walk between keeping them out and actaully scaring off potential paying players... And Im not sure where it stands right now.

I have heard from many friends throughout the last few months that I should give this game a try and so I finally did so and I have to say I am really enjoying it.
My only "complaint" that I really found to be an issue is that trial accounts can't send tells. Now I understand the base reasons for disallowing them to prevent spamming and what not however -- it wouldn't be unreasonable to allow trial account users to atleast respond to tells that they've received.
I don't know how many times I've received tells asking if I'd like to group up from people who aren't right around me (as I can more or less only speak outloud...) that I can't reply to and say hey sure! or people who have just randomly chatted with me, people must think I'm rude because I don't respond but I want to I just can't!
I think it really would build the trial account experience if they could atleast respond to the people who contact them.
It would also be nice for those who already have friends in the game, perhaps allowing tells to those who have added you on their friends list as well. I think it would make things nicer for the trial account users and be just that one extra step towards enjoying the game and wanting to take it further and actually buy it.
Anyway just wanted to throw it out there.
