Lessons learned from recent PuG ITFs

give the newbs a break. A lot of PUGs are made up of people who haven't been playing long enough to make a group of regular friends. Back when I started, I had maybe 3 globals and ran nothing but PUGs. Failed a truckload of Itfs with people. It's a learning curve. I give props to the OP for chosing to stay with the group even though he realized they were newbs. And major props for not fake dccing towards the end. because you stuck it out and helped, you may have created 2 or 3 future vets.

basically, if you see a miki on Triumph, it's probably cute and it's probably me.

Huge thanks to cuppamanga and all the folks in the mac help forum for prolonging my borrowed time on this game.

I think Chriffer sets a good example. Even if the team was sub-optimal, he stuck it out and imparted some knowledge to people that didn't possess it. Granted there are some people that are willfully obtuse, but I've found that if you explain things people generally listen. Being dismissive of people that don't know how to do something is probably the least constructive thing you can do.

If you were being facetious, then try to understand that not everyone is a powergamer, and sometimes you get on a team with 5-7 morons.
But in the same way, I've seen 5-7 morons complete the ITF in an hour and fifteen minutes. On pretty much every run I've done with my characters, the key strategy has consisted of "Hit everything with every power you have until it dies or you die." It didn't take purpled-out characters and rocket science-caliber strategy; just hitting things a lot.

I'm not saying that it's impossible not to complete the ITF, but suggesting that it's something that only "powergamers" can pull off is silly.

Good thing no one in this thread suggested that "only powergamers can pull this off".

not so much needing a tank that can handle it as needing people able to listen and destroy the generators in unison.

and if you have a guy who isn't using his proton gun on the Hydra? Forget about it. You can easily get away with not using the flamethrower on the hydra tentacles since they don't seem particularly vulnerable to those goofy things, but the head NEEDS the ray guns firing on it. After that it's just an exercise in mopping up the Rikti ambushers.

The implication from *that* quote is that this is something designed more for powergamers than your average PUG of morons. Which it clearly isn't.

I'm sorry the OP had a bad PUG task force. That happens. But as someone who does task forces with nothing but PUGs, on idiot-heavy servers like Freedom and Virtue, I feel confident in saying that that's the exception and not the rule. PUGs are not universally bad. The ITF is not unreasonably difficult. That's all the sympathy you're getting.

I quit a few of those. I don't mind doing them semi-fast, but not at the expense of the team. Most of the ITF I have been are 2-3 45-50's, and the rest scattered between 35-45.

The OP isn't saying "people are dumb", "The ITF is too hard", or "X build sucks", it's saying "There's a massive, massive disparity in power between the highest end builds and the lowest end builds, and I question whether it is wise to allow the higher end builds to get even more powerful". At least, that's what its conclusion paragraph said to me, after reading the whole post. I also have a hard time contesting it.

I could also be misreading what I see.
