Why do MMs get a nerfed choice of sets for Trip Mine?

MMs can't put PBAoE sets in Trip Mine, only Targeted AOE and KB. Every other version of Trip Mine can put in the much better PBAoE sets. Why is this?

That sounds like it is not set up correctly to me, but maybe someone that knows better can say that is working as intended.

MMs actually used to be able to slot PBAoE and TAoE sets in Trip Mine. I guess somewhere along the line it got fixed but they forgot to normalize it with the other ATs. I've not got a clue whether Trip Mine is supposed to use PB or TAoE sets. PB probably makes more sense.

It's only supposed to take one or the other.

I surmise that the MM version is the one working correctly and the OTHERS are the borked ones. If you look at it, all Location AoEs (Rain of Fire, Sleet, Freezing Rain, Blizzard, Ice Storm, Rain of Arrows) take Targeted AoE sets.

A PBAoE, by definition, originates from your character's location. A Trip Mine can originate from a location that you are not present at, making it a Location AoE, and as such should use Targeted AoE sets.

Just my thoughts on it.

Sounds about right. MMs had PBAoE setting ability removed from Caltrops in the last patch, too. I reckon the non-MM Trip Mines are next.

You know, Devs could probably avoid this complaint by adding more Targetted AoE sets. Right now, there are only five to choose from, and that's including the purple and the PvP ones. PBAoE has 7, and those two extra sets allow for quite a bit more flexibility in choice.

Whoever put "I'm a retard" as a tag, shush. I truly believe it is a PBAoE since you have to be on a location to place it at that location. The Armageddon fire damage proc would go so much nicer in the KB-fest that is trip mine than the chance for KD.

Edit: You never get a targeting circle, unlike the other location AoEs mentioned.

Perhaps they were talking about themselves, and not you, since whoever did it can't even spell "I'm" right. Last I checked, the apostrophe wasn't optional.

I'd like to see a little more variety in the Targetted AoE pool as well, especially since the set bonuses for two of them are pretty disappointing.

some issues before they changed a thing called acid mortar, removed his targeting cycle and it takes location AoE sets too.
maybe they wanna redo the whole traps set, make it act faster and only forgot to redo some powerdiscriptions and setchoices
just my 2 cents

at the end we only can wait for what the devs will do with traps; MMs and the unloved targeted aoe IOsets

Looking at it from a utility perspective rather than a concept perspective, Trip Mine should take PBAoE sets rather than TAoE sets. The TAoE sets all include range enhancements, while Trip Mine doesn't have an enhanceable range. PBAoE sets only enhance accuracy, damage, endurance, and recharge, all of which can be enhanced on Trip Mine.

I also noticed Time Bomb takes PBAoE, so it is 5 PBAoEs (Blaster, Corr, Def Trip Mines and Def , Corr Time Bombs) to 1 targeted AoE
