Make the Crab Backpack More Customizable

I'm grateful we can actually change the color of the thing, but is there any chance we could someday get a chance to change more about the look of it?

Say, replace it with the Meat Doctor backpack?

I'm not asking to have different powers. I just want the option to make it look like something else. (If I'm going to be a Destined One myself I should be able to remove the symbol of Arachnos and place my OWN symbol on my backpack at least ...)

Not going to happen.

Arachnos would be pretty torqued off if a soldier was out of uniform.

I don't know if they care that much, given that SoA get their second costume slot at level 10...

Yeah, I know. You have to go pose as a non-arachnos for a mission.

I'm trying to come up with a better way of phrasing the chances of backpack customization.

As of right now, backpacks are largely limited to Crab Arachnos. Yes, if you install the City of Heroes DVD Collectors Edition, there's a clear shot of a TANK with a backpack, so somebody at some point did some work to make backpacks costume options... Anyways, the Crab backpack is one of the signature costume parts, and the developers have shied away from doing customization on the Epic Story Archtypes.

I wouldn't mind seeing backpacks being added to costume parts, but my suspicion is that when / if they arrive, they'll be for the 10 base Archtypes, and not for the Story Epics.

Nonetheless, Steampunk crab pack.. *ahem*

Some additional options would be nice for the crab pack, and they don't have to deter from it being an Arachnos pack. I'd quite like to have the option for auras on the pack, like the background glow or (Mu) electricity for more exotic concepts. Then there could be a battle damaged pack, a pack with heavier armour, a more ornate pack for the Arbiter Crab Spiders out there.. Ooh, 60s Arachnos crab pack with spider leg spikey bits on the pack's arms!

More customisation is always a good thing, I wholly agree, the pack needs more options (as could the armour in general, a full battle damaged look for example).

I'd just like the options for Slicer, Longfang or Webmaster (the one we get atm) backpacks.

And yes, they are different. If you haven't noticed, let me show you;

Slicer. No glowy bits, longer spikes;



Longfang. Short/next to no spikes, glowy laser parts.



Webmaster. Spikes and laser parts. What we get atm.



Even those choices would be cool.
Hmm...those pics make me tempted to go and replace a lot of the really old pictures on the wiki...

That would make sense because I would rather see Widow claws customizable.

I have seen enough threads regarding customizing the VEATs so I will make a good guess the devs are aware people want to change the look of their toons, non-VEAT and VEAT alike. I wonder how much of this is tied not only to the story (like standard uniforms for Arachnos) but to the Khelds, since people would scream that it is unfair VEATs can customize, but Khelds can't.

...But how would Khelds customize anyway? They don't have any great big accessories like the crab pack or weapons like the Widows - just their alternate forms, and I'm predicting a big fat "HELL NO" from Babs regarding that.

That's my point.

I am guessing that some set of players would say that they want alternate forms of Khelds - maybe one with more/less tentacles, a different tail for nova, or a spikey dwarf form, and so forth. Therefore, it would eventually get brought up that VEATs can change, why can't HEATs?

EDIT - I totally support customizing both VEATs and HEATs, just indicating that if one faction gets attention, people always point out that the other faction is left out in the cold (aka "unfair").

I'd like to be able to carry a different rifle other than the maybe three choices we have now. Even if the additional choices have to be unlocked.
I'm thinking first and foremost about unlocking the Tommy Gun from defeating Family mobs, but that's just me.

Actually I'm fairly sure players would just be happy with being able to change the color on their khelds.

One of the big tech issues though is that the Kheldians and other currently non-customizable powers, like Stone Armor's Granite, are exposed to the player as an overlay costume. Exposing costume overlays to the costume editor would require significant amount of additional engine work and User Interface work... Development resources that just weren't available after Power Customization launched.

I think the voiced suspicion that the developers won't do Villain Epic Archtype customization until they can also do Hero Epic Archtype Customization is probably correct.

I would like to see some of those additional crab back-packs made available... but I'd change how I would do it. Rather than just making them costume options, I'd make them additional available careers in the Arachnos army.

Of course, expanding the career choices would have further implications on other sets. The Widows, for example, would be rather torqued if they didn't get other high level careers.

For Khelds, I could see power customization extended in additional forms. We know that the Nova and Drawf forms the khelds use are taken from creatures the Kheldians met on other planets. So, it stands to reason that further forms (and abilities) could be conferred through different shapes.

I personally wish that we could add costume emblemes to Kheldian alt-forms and Granite for Tanks/Brutes.

At least that way people could tell my Stone Tank from someone else's ...
