ATI Graphics card x1600/x1650

My mouse moves super slow, and all over the place. It starts once I get to the log in screen to type in my password. Is my graphics card that crappy? Do I need a new one, is that the problem? In game, the mouse moves so slow, and kind of all over the place. So when I direct it to something and left click on the mouse, it takes forever to respond.

Bottom line, is this a graphics card issue. When I am on my PC, I am not having any problems at all. Help this frustrated bull.

In addition to that, when I use the direction keys on my keyboard, it is slow to respond, and floats a little, so if I go right, it moves and when I take my finger off, it moves a bit more. Any ideas, please, please all of you tech guru's, help me.

The x1600 series cards was released across 2005-2006 and was ATi's last OpenGL 2.0 card before they moved to OpenGL 3.0.

To put this in perspective, the $70 RadeonHD 5570 graphics card actually has more shader power than the most powerful x1x00 series card, the x1950 XTX. The $40 RadeondHD 5450 actually has more shader and texture power than most of the x1600 line up, and more shader power than the best x1600, the x1650 XT.

So, in today's games, your graphics card would probably be outrun by something actually cheaper than a modern PC game.

Well, honestly, no. You don't need a new graphics card. There actually is a bug right now with some animations and effects causing a dramatic slowdown in input reaction. There's also been other reported problems with input delays from third party programs. So if you can be patient, some of the issues might work themselves out...

or not.

ATi/AMD retired the x1x000 and previous OpenGL 2.0 cards a little over a year ago. While they put out a quarterly driver update... it's pretty much just the 9-3-1 driver re-wrapped with no real improvements / modifications. So if there's a driver issue at hand, it probably won't be addressed by AMD/ATi.

I'm not sure I could tell you that it's a problem with your graphics card alone.

What I would do is start City of Heroes up in safe mode. When clicking on I agree from the second launcher window, there's a little box that says Safe Mode. Put City of Heroes in Safe mode, and see if the problem continues.

Yeah, the problem is still there. Soon as it gets to the login screen. Typing in my password is slow, and the mouse cursor is all over the place.

I wonder if I should just uninstall, and reinstall the game.

A reinstall may or may not help. A graphics card upgrade might too. Something else you can try that has been bantered around in various places is to turn off the ATI Hotkey Poller service. I think it's still called that. Anyways it has been reported to cause some input lag for some folks.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
