To be fair to Shannon, the guideline for my 'real life' Comrade Hero is based on the action hero I grew up with as a kid and teenager - Arnold.

I gave Shannon Arnold Schwarzenegger's bodybuilding competition form measurements and the fantastic ZBrush images from Luc Bégin's Schwarzenegger Project .

Tough call though - how do you determine what are regular guy proportions as opposed to superhero proportions? Look at Superman in the comics, and then compare the actors who have played him on screen. No physical comparison there.

Kudos to Shannon for the great work so far.

GG,

You probably remember this on I started a while back. If you're serious about pursuing a Zbrush version lemme know and I can talk about what's involved.
I certainly remember that!

And yes, am interested. Note me here or on deviantART.

Whoa. That is incredible. Did the artist tell you what's next? This process is fascinating.

It's taken Shannon about 100 hours working with Clay and Super Sculpey Polymer to get this far - although he's pointed out that he had minor setbacks with some of the clay and a lot of time was spent trying to get the body proportions correct.

Anyway, next step is to bake the sculpture. I'm not sure how long that will take.

Shannon's father will be doing the painting. Primer, undercoat and full color paint-job.

The project as a whole is a Father-Son collaboration between the pair.

Stunning work. I'm jealous.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

That is brilliant! I wish I could do this kind of stuff. I can hardly draw a stick man, let alone make things like that lol. Big props to the maker for putting so much time into this. It's also nice that it's a father-son project.

LOVE the costume texturing!

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed with that as well. I gave Shannon specific real world examples of 'soft' body armor materials currently in used/being trialled by the US and Russian Armed Forces and he did well to make the costume look realistic without appearing to be either leather or spandex.

Comrade Hero looks awesome. I saw this on deviant art and definately had to add to my watch list. I love the texturing of the costume and the look of the hair on this sculpture.

Is this going to be a bust of the upper body or will this end up with the full body?

Just a bust of the the upper body. Originally I was going to go with full body, but settled on bust because the height of 20cm-25cm (7.9in - 9.8in) for full body would be the same as the bust.

Ergo, Shannon was able to pack more meat (so to speak) into developing a larger upper body bust.

Well, Comrade Hero has been baked...

No photos at this stage since he's a dark, blotchy mess due to the baking process. Hope to bring you some updated images soon-ish.

I can't wait to see it!!

I'm in awe of the detail on that thus far.

Aaw. I'd be intrigued to see what it looks like baked.

Looking forward to seeing the updates. This is looking fantastic so far.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

I've been baked a few times - no photographic evidence but I'm sure if there was it would look like I was munching on chips or something...

Oh, so Comrade Hero doesn't wear spandex? Could you show me these body armor meterials?

I don't know the science behind it but the most interesting materials being developed for civilian and military application are advances in synthetic fibers like ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, molecular bonded polymer fibers and more recently Carbon nanotube fibers. This isn't new news, as growing Carbon nanotube fibers has been painstakingly worked on for the past five to ten years, and other 'soft' body armor materials have been around longer than that.

DuPont is still making advances on venerable Kevlar, AlliedSignal uses Spectra fiber and a shield composite called Gold Shield, DSM produces Dyneema, Akzo Nobel produces TWARON and M5 Fiber, and Carbon nanotubes are being grown by various industry scientific research teams for a variety of applications.

Very sophisticated details on the backgrounds for costume. Heh. I just said that Bayani's costume is form-fitting body armor with impervium weaved into it. I've been looking around casually for an opportunity to make a custom action figure for Bayani. Haven't really found anything yet.

I hear ya. For the statue I wanted to try and have Comrade Hero's uniform based (loosely mind you) on real world technologies.

In game Comrade Hero is an Invulnerability/Energy Melee tanker, I decided that his uniform is made from "energy x" for want of a better word. So... you wouldn't want Comrade Hero to be knocked out.

I think that's pretty cool. Research is a good thing.
