Hello all.
I have been playing Redside alot lately, and have been playing with the colors of my powers to the extent that two of my Villains are starting to wonder if they belong to the Legacy Chain . ..I colored the powers of my SS/Willpower and Fire/Willpower Brutes white

I went to Paragon Wiki and read up on the Legacy Chain, and what stood out in my mind was the powers of Inferno Of Flame

Fire Blast, Fire Ball, Fire Breath, Fire Sword. . . common powers, yes, but wait, there was one more, Fire Sword Slice!!!!!

Fire Sword Slice Lowers your opponents defense!

I want

Was this power ever in game for us players ? I have never taken it, but is this what we call Melt Armour?

Anyways. ..not real sure why I posted this except I thought it interesting and am now curious about Fire Sword Slice.

Happy Easter everyone.

Lisa-Going to hunt me some Legacy folk and see it in action

So don't wait for heroes, do it yourself

who got up and gave it just one more try

It's one of countless NPC exclusive powers (others include things like the Tsoo's Dark and Thunder Sword hacks, Chill of the Night, Mask of Vitiation, Missile Swarm, etc. etc.) which, while it would be cool to have, are not, and probably NEVER will be available to PCs, partly due to the Cottage Cheese rule.

One Idea I had for circumventing that would be the idea of "Alt Powers" in power sets which would basically be alternative powers you can choose from a set which would lock out one option or the other. For example: let's say at level 32, you had either a choice between Golden Dragon Fly, or (A katana version of Claws') Shockwave. By picking out shockwave, at 35 you would not be able to select Golden Dragon Fly, or at any other level without respeccing out of it. (Like some of the Soldiers of Arachnos' powers between the branching jobs)

I /sign your idea and all but...

What is the cottage cheese rule?

50Soulsunder: DM/Regen Scrapper
50Limitshift: EM/WP Brute
Victoria Nox: Dark/Dark Dominator
And about 5 others that change constantly...

Chill of the Night is available to players via Dark Servant (Dark Miasma T9).

I think it might just be cheese rule or cottage rule, but basically it's like the standard code rant with powers, but instead of saying how hard it would be to do on a technical level, it's about how difficult it would be to change a power set without facing backlash not just from the players but themselves and their own previous coding as well.

tl;dr: it means the devs loathe changing powers sets and avoid it like a plague that killed you with bears. This rule was implemented once Jack Emmert left, as you might imagine.

@FleetWhisper, I had actually forgotten about that, but I'm not exactly sure it counts. I mean it would be like saying Masterminds have dual uzis because their pets get it, or that stalkers, brutes, etc. get Widow powers because they can summon them.

It's called the "cottage rule".

Castle coined the term. It refers to changing the function of an already existing power to something completely different. The example he used was Build Up. He said "An example of this would be changing the power Build Up so it "built up" a small cottage in the character's vicinity", or something to that effect.

I would have loved to have seen LRM in the Munitions Mastery ancillary pool be a 'missile swarm' effect for its AoE, rather than a single missile with a large explosion; it would have been immensely cooler to watch. Admittedly, it wouldn't have fitted as cleanly with the Assault Rifle weapon use, but it could have used that fat tub rocket launcher the 5th Column/Council pull out if you really needed a visual consistency.

Well, I think in the case of Dark Servant with Chill of the Night it would count, since CotN is a PBAoE auto power for DS. Place fluffy where you want him, and CotN is there, by default.
