grrrr...virus? Bug? Help

I'm having an isssue on a non-gaming laptop. It runs Vista. I attempted to update my AVG free version the otehr day, and got a message saying it had not been installed properly initially. So i tried to uninstall it, but I get nowhere. It just never uninstalls, acts like I never clicked the uninstall button.

I've tried downloading any number of ant-spyware/virus tools, even Hijackthis. Anything I download never shows up, though. It downloads, and when I go to the folder I download to, there's no file for the program. Is something blocking my downloads? I don't know what to do next.

Have you tried booting into Safemode, and removing AVG?

You could also try to use System Restore to go back to a previous point, such as the day before you attempted to install AVG.
