Hi, I'm new and have been killing the dang snakes forever on a mission for Kalinda. How does this mission end?!?!? I kill snakes and there just seems to be a neverending supply. I can't seem to end it!! Help!

I don't play Villains, but if you tell me what the mission briefing says, and the mission title, I think I can probably tell you what you need to do.

Also, welcome to the game and the forums

keep going. it will end. it is probably the defeat all snakes in lab/base mission. oh, and silly question, did you actually go into the mission?

It was "Defeat all snakes in area" Mercy Island.

...we need someone to mop up the last stragglers in the area...

I've been killing them on the beach, in town, on the roofs and am now level 6 and haven't completed that mission.....

Thank you for replying.

Yes, I did accept the mission. It's been going on hours for multiple days - usually the missions seem to end quicker than this.

Maybe I'm not getting the right snake?!?

What exactly does the mission briefing say? From what you've said so far, it sounds like a door mission. When you select the mission (click it on the Missions window), does a yellow or red distance marker show up and a star spot on your mini-map start to flash? Did you go into a mission door/truck/etc?

"Out-in-the-zone" hunt missions usually specify a specific quantity to defeat, not an "all in area" phrase.

Yes, yellow flashing star spot on map. Went thru door on a boat.

Actually...that's not so silly a question. I'm guessing that the OP got to the area but didn't go into the mission. I'm also guessing that the "door" was probably a snake hole, which can be easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for.

edit: or maybe not. If it's an instanced mission and you did go in, just make sure that you get every last one on the map. If you log out though (going on for "multiple days"), that will reset the mission.

That is because (It sounds like) you are hunting snakes in Mercy Island. The "Defeat all Snakes in Area" mission is an instanced mission that you have to enter. Follow the Red Nav Marker.

This is not the typical MMO. Unless it says something like "Defeat 20 Snakes", and usually specifies a zone to do it in, the mission actually takes place on an instanced map that has its entrance indicated on your map and compass if you click it in your missions tab. Got to the location of the star and there should be a manhole, door or similar entrance. Click it to enter.

Did you clear/reveal the whole mission map (on your mini-map)? Any dark spots could be hiding a straggler.

What Server are you on? If necessary, I can come an take a look.

Or you can ask on Broadcast for someone to help you out.

yep. it is an actual mission that you have to go into a door for. this is not like WoW where the missions are outside. there are some that happen outside which will specify, once the mission is selected and appears in red in your navigation window, how many foes to defeat.

if it says kill all, that is an instanced mission that happens by clicking on a door.

edit: i type to slow lol.

Hmmm...it did originally say "fly me to the mission" but I ended up going over to a boat on my own. I should go backk to Kalinda and see if someone will fly me somewhere?

The boat was where the star/waypoint was located? There is a ferry that takes you to another city zone, Port Oakes, but it will not take you to the mission map.

I think I tried to click on something to fly me when I was by Kalinda - but it wasn't working so I believ the star was on the map and then I was exploring trying to see how to enter something to begin the mission and found the door on the boat.

I think I know what mission this is. The mission door should be somewhere on the fort that Kalinda is standing on top of. When you load in, you'll find yourself in an instanced outdoor area, and you'll come out of an Arachnos Flier. There will be four Arachnos Soliders you need to rescue by defeating the Snakes guarding them. As you rescue them, they will join you, and fight with you.

Also, from what I remember, none of Kalinda's missions are outside. They all require you to go to a "door" of some kind, and load into the mission instance.

Click on the word Missions near where you bring up your Map, and select the mission Kalinda gave you. Once you've selected it, you should get a waypoint on your map, and if you rotate your charcter, you should find a yellow triangle pointing down, with a distance on top of it. When you get to it, that will be the door you need to enter.

For future reference, you can also talk to a contact again and tell them you want to drop the mission. You can only do that once every three days, but it will auto-complete the mission with no penalty.

The Black Helicopter behind Kalinda takes you to Mercy Island, which is exactly where you are. So, it goes nowhere!

Its only purpose is that if there are multiple instances of the zone of Mercy Island, you can switch to the right instance to be with your team mates in case they're in another instance.

If a door-mission is nearby, its easy to confuse the door entrance with this zone-gate.

Glad I could help!!

One of the things to watch out for is the flavor text in mission briefings. A lot of times, they'll say you'll be flown in, or driven to, or take a boat to the place you need to be, but in reality, you'll click a door, and when the mission instance loads, the pop up info will mention something about you flying/driving/boating to the location.

I am very happy you spent all this time trying to figure out the mission. Congratulations. You just took your first steps into your brand new CoH addiction.

Enjoy your day please.

This reminds me of when I first played CoH. One of my first missions was to find and defeat some Vahzilok. I followed the compass to the location indicated on my map. Although the arrow was in fact pointing to a mission door, there happened to be a group of Vahzilok zombies standing close by and I assumed the arrow was pointing to them. Unfortunately, they were +3 to my level. It wasn't until after several trips to the hospital that I realized those outdoor zombies had nothing to do with my mission at all!

So yeah, there are a few things in this game that can be confusing to a new player who's not used to how things work here, but it doesn't take much time at all to get the hang of it.
