An eye as green as spring's first leaf peaked out from a half-opened eyelid. Its gaze implied, Oh, sure, just when I get comfortable for a long repose you decide to wake.

The fey shifted so she circled Jade's horn like a koala on a branch. One cheek, the color of warm honeysuckle, rested on its surface with a coy tilt. Her profile was quite attractive by most mortal and immortal standards, as if all the pieces of a perfect meadow retreat were combined and given humanoid form. Hair was a lush calico cascade of sunshine and berries. Leaves a deeper green than her eyes frilled her front torso, held in place by twined vines. Similar leaves and vines covered her arms from finger tips upward to feather her shoulders. Flowing from the roped waist a blue silk skirt shimmered, giving the impression of a deep stream. A touch of vanity magic must have been woven in, for no matter what the angle it maintained modesty. Pointed ears and vibrant wings both looked like petals unfurling. Most delicate was the short antennae, which were likely a distraction in their perpetual motion.

"Fair morning, Dragon." Patches translated the polite chirps into understandable language as easily as it has translated Jade's two syllables for her. "Pardon a personal question, but I wish to interrupt you as briefly as possible: Will you please show the possessions on your person? It is not you, I figured that much out, but it is close. So something you have must be the reason I am here."

"My...my what?" Jade inquired with confusion, looking himself up and down. All he had on him were his pants, the open, sleeveless leather jacket, and his necklace of teeth. Did this little creature, attractive though she was, really want him to...?

"Oh!" slipped over the Dragon's lips as he recalled the little acorn he'd stuck into one of his jacket's chest pockets, digging the tiny thing out, "Um...you mean this...?"

Cerelasson of course had everyone stay at his place. However it was a mess more a jumble of labs then a house. So EVERYONE was given quarters in a guest house. (there now everyone knows where they slept.)

Rotten didn't sleep he didn't need to. So he stayed awake and thought about what to do. Oddly he was wondering if this world of patches was sending threats against them in order to keep them from finding out how to reverse the transport.

The SPIRIT was once again a wolf seemingly asleep at Jades legs only moving an eyelid when Jade Woke up and spoke to the pixie.

Jade's eye shift had been more than enough incentive for the fairy to flitter about a foot away. Holding on tight while his head swayed about could have been a thrill ride at her size. But she forbade until such a treat was offered intentionally. Her movement caused the blue-purple glow to again halo her, though not enough to mask her features at such a close range.

She stared at the proffered stone acorn for three long second. "Yes," her resigned sigh confirmed, "that would be it."

Coming close she politely asked, "May I?" before brushing one vine-covered hand over the acorn. Shock crossed her features and she jerked back the distance again.

"That storms it! Do you know what you have there? No, of course not," her rapid words still translated in distinctive clips so their meaning was not lost in the rush. "Anyone who has been part of one does not knowingly get involved in another."

What looked to be a good tirade warming up was abruptly terminated as the fey caught sight of the wolf at Jade's legs. Oh, that wolf was a wily creatures! She hadn't even noticed him while clambering around Jade before. She suspected that was his design, even as his presence was now distinctly obvious. She modulated her tone into one of patience and humility.

"You, dear Dragon, have gotten involved in a Prophecy. Not just any Prophecy. A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy. They tend to cause havoc for all involved. No regard to what or who is disturbed." Her glare at the stones indicated that she too was a victim.

She looked back at Jade, tsking. "Poor thing. This one seems particularly audacious. It probably was shoved in your face, literally, with the one offering no wiser than you. Well, let's see what we can do to get it fulfilled so we can be freed of it. Come, tell me how you became involved and what lead to this point. Oh, but be brief. I know how complicated they make things. Under ten words would be ideal."

From a group nearby that had snuck in in their annoying habit, a forlorn voice whined, "Pretty pony gone!"

The fey whirled and lost her compose you again. "Marbles! You and your ink are the reason I am involved! Because of your tricks and thieving I had to make a deal with the universe, the universe!, to keep you away from my things. A deal with the devil would have been less dangerous but too insecure. In exchange for having an inaccessible space no one, not even you, could get into I was supposed to do an occasional favor. Now I can't seem to get any new bauble without losing it during these all-too-frequent favors. It's like I've because some cosmic reserve, a vault's valet. And to top it all off, I still have to deal with Marbles!"

She stomped one tiny foot in the air and folded her arms in a pout. "Will someone please tell me how it came to this?" To the Marbles who obediently opened their mouths she faced one palm in rejection and turned her nose away. "Someone else."

"Urm..." the Dragon looked about with uncertainty, trying to connect the dots on just when 'his' treebranch had become such a popular attraction. True, it was a big, gnarledly thick thing, but still, "That, uh...I don't think ten words is enough. It's...it's a pretty long story."

Despite not much understanding what was going on, or even what was being spoken of for that matter, Jade began to recount to the best of his recollection, trying to remain curt when he could, but quite often failing to do so...

((Sounds exciting, Liz Bathory. Safe travels and look forward to your return!))

The fey was plenty patient with the long rendition. She listened attentively, only speaking to silence the Marbles.

"Meet pretty pony!" they exclaimed when Jade told of Paxtera teleporting the group to the forest gate. One proudly held out the souvenirs of that meeting. The fey hushed them, shooing them back. Similar interruptions every time they were featured met with a scowl and a demand for their silence.

When they again wailed, "Pretty pony gone!" upon the recount of Tafari draining the energy of Bisys away, the fey made an apologetic gesture to Jade requesting him to pause his recount.

Turning, she flew into the face of the nearest Marbles so it had to go cross-eyed. "That's enough," she said firmly, and with temper nearly lost. "More and more of you have been arriving until it's practically a Great Gathering. This branch is meant to be decorated with leaves, not Marbles! One of you can stay if you remain silent. The rest: Scram!"

There was a general exodus of Marbles disappearing as abruptly as they had appeared. The one that remained gave a wide-eyed expression. The fey turned back to Jade, not buying the innocent act for a moment. "Sorry for the nuisance. I'd chase them all off, but obviously they've been involved too. While they are individuals, they also share a type of hive consciousness. That's why they always have that dopey expression: There is always at least one Marbles somewhere that is pulling off a prank, and the rest are sharing the joke."

The rest of Jade's rendition continued uninterrupted. When he concluded the tale at the point of waking up to find her, she nodded and mulled it over.

"It's more than the Prophecy. This whole world - Patches, you said? - likes to snatch things to itself. Yes, that would appeal to this presumptuous Prophecy quite nicely.

"In short, you and your friend were pulled to Patches. She mistook this as a substitute Token for the one she lost, and offered it to you believing it would bind you as a Master until she could find hers. Chaos ensued, involving a growing number of people, mostly centered around you. Not so much a coincidence now, is it?

"The result is that your friend is missing, you are heart broken, and things only look to be getting worse. Oh, and a fairy with no credentials shows up claiming involvement and demanding answers. I have to thank you for trusting me with the whole story regardless, as I will not regain access to my proofs of person until this Prophecy matter is settled.

"Well, as with most twists in life, there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that your friend really did die. I am sorry to be the one to confirm it.

"The good news, for you anyway, is that she can be given another life. For the reason I had my activities interrupted, again, is because once more the universe set me up. Thank you, universe! Please excuse my sarcasm, but it really is getting old and predictable.

"I've the knowledge and some of the items needed. The rest are nearby, I'm certain. However, there was one thing your friend had right: You are the one with the choice. Do you want to help complete this Prophecy and try to restore your friend? There is never a guarantee for success, and there are usually unforeseen consequences."

Again came that voice from nowhere and everywhere at once that voice of the Spirit Wolf. "Of course the Marbles have some items from that said friend. The Fey here seen them take hairs." The wolfs tail wagged back and forth slow and lazy. Then he moved and started scratching a spot.

"Personally I don't see why mortals get so upset over death. Guess it's because I'm not mortal. My power here is limited and even more so out side of the forest however I would help if I can."

The 'Night' Mountains

Graxitica dashed down the mountainside, rushing forward to investigate whatever it was that had set off his early warning alarm. Still without a new host ... his current situation would have to wait. Maybe he could find a new host from whatever had caused this disturbance.

At

Negative Rise shook his head. "No tradition or superstition of my planet. Is it that way for your people?" he asked of Vetdjat. "Remember, on my planet...there are those that can ... invoke their wishes into reality."

Ag'xis Time-Loop

Jerval was still reliving his morning. He would have to time the ceremony precisely, otherwise, if the timing was off, what he was about to perform could result in any number of temporal anomalies.

After he had realized he had stuck himself in a time-loop, Jerval allowed the loop to play out several more times. What he had been doing was observing, watching and outright timing every moment of that fateful morning. The ceremony he was about to perform would not reverse the deaths of the Ascended Generals; in fact, performing such chrono-magic was forbidden on Ag'xis. What he instead intended to do was to prevent his own death, while simultaneously bringing a murdering fiend to justice. He just had to A) stop time throughout the entire universe B) return himself to the very moment he was traversing his gate spell, and C) emerge from the gate, only this time not be shocked at the dead bodies littering the ground. No, this time, he would have to be prepared for combat. Only this time, the outcome of such combat with whatever had murdered the Ascended Generals would result in a scenario to the dismay of the fiend...Jerval would be prepared, and if need be, would take the life of whatever or whomever had killed the Generals.

Jade's brow furrowed at the silver wolf's words, the Dragon directing a grumpy snort at the spirit, "No. It's because we care for one another. Not being mortal has nothing to do with it. I should know."

He turned his eyes back to the little fae, stating with a decisive nod, "Yes. Yes I do. What do I need to do...?"

The rest of the power-armored troop confirmed with silence, the barrels of their PZ plasma rifles sweeping back and forth through the smoky atmosphere. Even now, the stuff was already eating away at their weapons and suits, the toxic mixture so corrosive it even attacked the hull of the armored personnel carrier behind them.

But that didn't matter. At least not yet. They had a mission to complete.

"The Wolf has a very good point. I will explain in a minute," she bowed very respectfully to the Spirit Wolf, then listened intently to the dragon for his decision.

At Jade's decisive agreement, the palm-sized fairy gave a traditional up-twirl-curtsy, then rubbed her hands together briskly in a more modern version. "Great! Let's do it now, shall we? With a bit of luck it can be finished before first meal."

She started ticking the points off on her fingers. "For the ingredients, we already have the Prophecy. Or it has us, take your pick.

"We'll need a Positronic Matrix. You said there was a shower of scales and a skull as remains of her, what was it again? metaloid? strange word, her metaloid form. One or both will surely have the computer part we need. Can you locate them for us to examine?" If she told the truth, the fairy could locate it on her own by touching the stone acorn Prophecy. That Prophecy was a rather boisterous sort, all too glad to tell its activities and connections including the one to the needed piece. Her first touch was more than the fey had wanted, though, and would rather not handle it again if she could arrange for Jade to continue doing so.

"As the Wolf said, the Marbles have some hairs from your friend. Okay, you pest, what exactly do you have?" The Marbles eagerly held out its hand again, showing a feather, a lock of hair, and a shaved sliver off a hoof. "And these were taken from when the Marbles first met her, meaning while she was in her original form. These are as good as Gold! Especially if used to draw the spirit of your friend back from where it has wandered off. Do you know someone with an affinity for commanding the dead?"

The Marbles stood up straighter, preening at their ownership of a key ingredient, then deflated again as the fey mulled. "But what did you Marbles plan to do with these? You kept saying you would get her her Token... Why you crafty creature! You planned to have Jade willingly give up the Prophecy, then use these pieces to connect to her Token and swap it, leaving you in possession of the summoned Token and Master of the 'pretty pony'! Oh, don't try that look on me, that is exactly what you planned to do, isn't it? Isn't it?? Ah-ha, well you should nod and admit your guilt. I'd like to say it wouldn't have worked, but as it is you involved who could say? Thankfully we will never have to test it. Go on, give those to Jade. They are safer in his keeping than yours. He, I trust, will not use them for selfish ends."

She waited until Jade was in possession of the feather, hair, and hoof sliver before continuing in a thoughtful voice, "You know, we might be able to use that Crafting trait yet. Stay around, Marbles, but Don't Touch Anything without my expressed permission!! Understood? Good. As endlessly annoying as you are, you do keep the promises you make."

"Finally, a Thorn Tree Vine will be needed as a protective binding agent. Most people think that is a vine from a Thorn Tree. A tree vine of thorns will work too. Yet another reason I was brought here, I'm sure." She paused to spread her arms wide, showing that she was going to use the vines from her arms for the required ingredient. Now that she had said that the plentiful thorns were clearly visible, and her words implied that the vines had originated from a tree.

"Of course, we know who we are binding: Your satyr friend. That is the point of the spell: To complete the Self-Fulfilling Prophecy and forever un-bind her, and us!, from it. That alone would not be enough. We need to re-bind her to a new anchor. Her original Token will do. The one that looks like that rock, except is made of crystal. A crystal acorn. And where will we find such a one-of-a-kind item? Why, in my treasury. Of course. Where else?" It was easy enough to guess as she glared into the distance that she directed her ire at the Universe.

"Anyway," she sighed, "once we have those ingredients, we can do the un-binding by putting the Prophecy back in time to be eventually found by your friend and you. That's what will satisfy it as a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy. Then we use the other ingredients to form a new bond and, hopefully, and new body for your friend. Know of any time travelers around? I have someone I could ask but, er, would rather not." No respect for delicate fairy wings, she muttered under her breath.

"Um, yeah." Jade answered with a nod as he climbed gradually back down to the ground, "But uh...why do we have to send that stuff back? Can't we just use it here once we get it all together?"

Meanwhile, a zombie hobbled into the elven dwelling in which the Blood Countess had made her domicile. Not that she needed to sleep, being undead and all, but she was after all nobility, and as such accustomed to certain accommodations. As her minion entered, she looked to the creature with an air of regal dispassion, patiently taking in what it had overheard.

With a gentle sigh, she rose. It wouldn't take much effort to help out a bit, she supposed, and having these people in her debt could be of advantage in the future. Better yet, perhaps this Rotten Luck fellow would be there to lend aid as well, giving her further chance to study the strange man up close...

Though there were at least two people who did know such a thing right there, she got no answer from either of them. The reason of course being that they were both still asleep. One more deeply than the other. Ildela was still out cold from her experiences the previous day, and probably nothing short of a sizable explosion right next to her was going to change that. Kethara on the other hand was stirring, the noise of the rest of them discussing everything very nearly waking her up.

Regardless, one or other of them was going to have to be woken up and talked to if they wanted to get Paxtera back to the here and now. Because she didn't seem to be around anywhere.

Ag'xis Time-loop

Jerval had gathered his components, placing them on the stand next to his bed, so when the time-loop restarted in precisely 1.000459 seconds, he would awake to the note covering the components. He practically had a complete book of said notes as it was - one of the drawbacks to being stuck in a temporal loop. Even practicioned chronomages still needed such reminders.

The second had come and gone, his reawakening to the same morning playing out a bit differently this time. He quickly gathered the components, shoving them into his pouch and opened a portal directly to the chambers of the Generals. It was here the ceremony would have to be performed ... he couldn't chance gating directly to the site of their murders - no, he would in fact probably wind up being murdered himself if he took that route. Besides, the loop was already in play - for young chronomages, it was the quickest, easiest, and least costly spell for them all to learn, and provided for convenient escapes in just such scenarios. However, in order to escape such loops, lengthy spells were necessary...more powerful and more costly to the chronomage for each escape. Yes, for Jerval it meant having to stop time on a grand scale ... but this was a mere drop in the bucket compared to the great chronomages of lore - for their tests and discoveries nearly lead to the unraveling of time itself.

He began his ceremony by casting an elaborate protective shell around the massive, domed chamber, then using a piece of chalk, drew a runic protection circle on the floor beneath his feet. Such precautions were always necessary.

Withdrawing the talon of a long-dead dracolich, he began weaving a web of mystic lines through the air, keeping each line within the runic circle, carefully keeping each strand inside the protective area with an eagle's claw. Each strand was connected in the center of the circle ... that connecting point representing the precise moment he would need to stop time at.

He couldn't rush this ceremony, but all haste was necessary, for the time was approaching when the Ascended Generals would be entering these very chambers to meet with him - and he didn't have the time to explain that soon, they would all be dead, and there was nothing he could do to prevent their deaths from occuring...

Negative Rise nodded at Vetdjat as the Khelari recited his tale. For the demon, the tale sounded familiar, but he just couldn't remember. He wouldn't be able to just look it up, either, for the words would be scrambled, undecipherable, or just plainly not there for him to read it. If he attempted to look it up on a computer - the screen would just appear to him as a blank, white screen.

"Sounds interesting," his voice rasped out, "A people similiar to my own? Your race sounds quite well-travelled through the stars - it would be good to hear more about these other people; you know, the type like mine...that is, if you have the time, of course!"

Nev'oroxis tapped his chin. "It would also be astounding to hear of other worlds you've visited, of course." Then a thought occured to him. -How was it this creature was capable of communicating with him, besides the fact that these creatures may've visited Earth, or hell, even Ag'xis itself...while picking up the languages from high orbit? Unless there was something about this very planet...but he would keep his question to himself. For now.- "Also, I'm quite versed in several languages of my planet, and am an avid reader of our written words..."

The little fairy opened her mouth to restate the logic, paused, then simplified, "It is part of the spell requirements that the Prophecy goes back in time. No time travel, no spell, no friend." It was more complicated than that, but her experience was that unless someone experimented with magics they tended to be satisfied just being told what had to be done rather than knowing every technicality and hand-waving motion.

Spotting the sleeping congregation they approached the fairy got quieter and fell back close to Jade's ear, ready to dart into hiding behind the dragon's head at the first sign of danger. The Wolf had her fearful respect, the local fey had proven friendly, Jade had offered his cooperation, but the rest were unfamiliar to her.

The solitary Marbles trailed behind, obedient to its promise but on the lookout for any available mischief which would not involve touching.

"Oh...okay." Jade gave the little fae a nod, even though he still didn't quite understand the details. He headed to the stirring Kethara, placing a hand on her shoulder in an attempt to get her awake, "Hey. Hey, wake up please."

If he succeeded, he wouldn't waste any time explaining the situation to her and asking if she could perform this sending back in time that the fairy had outlined - or if she couldn't whether she could call her mother here. If he didn't...well, he'd just try and shake harder...

Negative Rise raised an eyebrow at Vetdjat. "No, I mean, I can read about other places, if you have the information readily available for a visitor such as myself." He shrugged his shoulders. "I figured it'd be easier than if you spent any length of time reciting such accounts to me. After all, you must be a busy person around here."

Ag'xis Time-Loop

Jerval began chanting while still weaving temporal threads within the protection circle. Pronouncing each part of the chant with the utmost of accuracy, and careful not to stumble over the words. The chanting was the longest part of the ceremony, yet it would be over shortly has he began the chants while weaving. Any chronomage worth his weight in salt and gold would do such a thing, anyway, even if it wasn't in the manual...

Kethara did little, murmuring something about 'five more minutes' and rolling over at first. Further shaking produced better results. "Ok, Ok. I'm up already. What the hell's so damned important?"

Some short while of explanations later she answered negative, she can't do the whole time travel bit on her own. Or if she can, she doesn't know how. This of course prompting the request to get her mother back, to which she answered she could try. Which she did, pulling out from one of her pockets a device that resembled an Ouroboros portal, sort of. Heavily modified at least, if not merely coincidentally similar in appearance. She simply pressed a series of buttons on it, then put it back in her pocket.

...and nothing happened. "Huh. Guess she's busy", Kethara commented. "Give her a bit, she'll show up eventually." Exactly how a time traveller could be 'busy' enough to not be able to come to the exact moment the signal was sent, she didn't say.

"Thank you for trying," the fairy politely replied to Kethara. She had appeared during Jade's recitation, encouraged by his trust of the human-looking girl.

What she didn't say was that there was not all that much time to wait. Other factors were involved, the least of which being how her power in this plane were diminishing with exposure to it. Why was it always that time was always in short supply when time travel was involved? Thankfully she had a backup option, though one very distasteful to her, if it came to that.

"Jade, there is still a missing ingredient to gather. May we look at the remains left behind by your friend to see if they contain what is needed?"

"Oh, a very decent amount, if I say so myself." the elder Khelari smiled, "I'd imagine you'd be most interested in hearing about worlds much like the on you come from, though. Let me think...I believe the last of those they called Kurok. Fascinating place. In essence two worlds on one, so somewhat like here, but not as numerous. They had this crystal web up in the high atmosphere..."

Vetdjat obviously wasn't hesitant to comply with the demon's request, talking at length about this planet where one species had split into two, with the first part living on the planet itself and the second on a gigantic floating structure they'd built about their entire world. It wasn't as amazing as it sounded in the end though, what with some war the two were fighting over reasons long forgotten. It had left the surface devastated, the population that once lived there now underground, and making guerrilla strikes against those living far above them, whose official position was that they had won. Vetdjat made special mention that when he'd asked just what they'd won, they hadn't really been able to give him a reasonable answer - at least not from a Khelari point of view.

"...but what I found most interesting..." he raised a finger, but whatever this most interesting thing had been, the words that were about to tell of it never emerged. Instead, a sound of thunder crashed through the entire complex, followed by at least five more in snapped staccato, plumes of bright-blue flames belching themselves into the sky at several points of the Khelari structure's perimeter.

The floor shook and Vetdjat blinked, still rising up in confusion as the clinks and clangs of metal on metal echoed from the ends of the grapple lines that had attached themselves to the transmission assembly above. The armored troopers that occupied their other ends weren't far behind, vaulting over the transparencies about the communications center and swiftly forming a circle about the two.

They said not a word, instead opening fire immediately, the unseen pulses of their heavy shockers slamming Vetdjat off his perch and to the floor, body rendered numb and uncontrollable from the disabling energies. The attackers didn't restrict themselves to the Khelari, however. In fact, if Negative Rise had a guess, it seemed a good bit more of them were firing at him than Vetdjat...

"Alright I think it be better if we visit the Human settlement and get your breakfast there. by the way what are pancakes?" Cerelassion said as he rubbed his chin with his thumb. "Well anyway if you fallow me." He exited the guest cabin and headed for the Human settlement.

The Settlement was build in a nook of the cliffs where at one time a waterfall. Now where a swimming hole used to be is now filled with buildings of elven design, but on the ground and among them were animal pens with chickens and goats even a few pigs.

"We don't have enough open land for larger livestock. We had to trade for these animals from a few other human realms far enough away from the Waste to not be harmed by them."

In the open areas were now tents housing the new arrivals from the Gre'shil village. Cerelassion headed into one of the larger buildings "Tal and Greetings I brought guests who wish to break there fast."

The building could be considered a restaurant or a soup kitchen. A blond haired woman looked over "alright just take a seat and we be with you as soon as we can."
