hey all, im not familar with amd processors and wanted to get your opinion on how this laptop would hold up playin cox. my gf's current laptop's 2nd ram socket burned out and shes runnin on 512mb atm, each socket can only except 512mb max, lol older system. what were plannin on doing is buyin a low end laptop and upgrade to a better one in bout 6months.

i was a little confused about this laptop because of the graphics memory. right now she has intergrated graphics memory and the one i was lookin at has dedicated and 128MB display cache memory, 64MB GDDR2 sideport memory, up to 1982MB total graphics memory. i have no idea what the 64mb sideport thing is, lol. anyways heres the link and she only does light internet surfing, listenin to music and Cox will be the most advanced thing that will be done on this comp. thanks all

Unless I'm mistaken (most of our subcompacts are Intel based) The Neo is a subcompact processor. That is to say a netbook processor.

I'm going to call netbook on this, and while many netbooks will surprise you with how well they'll game, if you keep digging around, you'll find something in the same price range with a real processor.

EDIT: After a more detailed look, it's not too bad. I still don't like that processor, but it SHOULD probably do the trick. I like to be over 2 though...

Well it's marketed to netbook and low power consumption but it is a good deal faster than an Atom. It's also a true dual core unlike the usual netbook Atom which is a single core plus hyperthreading.

Here is HP's page on that laptop. It has an integrated ATI 3200 with it's own 64MB of memory but can still steal additional memory from the system. It is loads better than the standard Intel integrated graphics in games but nothing extraordinary.

That laptop has lots of memory and a fast hard drive which are good points. But, IMO you will be more limited by the graphics than by the CPU.

The RadeonHD 3200 is an integrated GPU. It's, well, weak.

However, it's 2000 megapixel fill rate, and 2000 megatexel fill-rate lines up right alongside the much older Radeon 9600 XT. Now, I do know that the 9600 Pro is capable of pushing 1024*768 with medium details on a Socket 754 Athlon64 3200+.

The laptop's native resolution of 1366 x 768 is a bit over that, but the laptop does have a lot more memory, a better memory controller, a better GPU, so it should be able to drive CoH with medium detail settings no problem.

The only real potential problem I see with the laptop is it's Operating System. If you look through the Tech Support systems you'll see lots of players running into issues with Microsoft's Latest effort.

If you do go with that laptop though, don't forget that you aren't stuck with the OS it ships with. Most current Linux distributions will install fine, and if you look around you'll find guides on how to install a Linux while keeping your Windows drive intact (say like, www.mepisguides.com). In addition, while NCSoft and Paragon Studios are shy about talking about it, the Mac developers are the guys behind Cedega, and I've been running City of Heroes atop Cedega on 64bit Linuxs with Radeon Hardware (RadeonHD 2600 Mobile, Radeon x1900 AIW) for a little over a year now.

thanks for the responses all
i was hoping to stay around $600 since my gf and i have other priorities to purchase first. i think the comp will be good since hell, atm shes runnin on 512mb ram, an intergrated graphics card on a single core 3.0 hp from 6 years ago, lol. we need to run it in safe mode all the time, if that can run it, this one should too no problem.
