There's always imageshack. I'm not real familiar with the freebies because I own the websites I use to host.

Never used them, can't say a thing about 'em.
While it might depend upon what you're actually trying to do, you might check Google's Picasa and of course, http://www.flickr.com/
The best is almost always going to be your own website, of course. I've been extremely please with the power and flexibility of Gallery2 on my own website.

What do you mean, "Won't store images long enough"? I've got images on my imageshack account that are nearly 5 years old. (And considering Imageshack itself is just 6 years old...)
