CoH/CoV crashing and much more.
First, I would not run them in compatibility mode, it will cause problems. Then the question is are you running CoH/V as Admin (right click --> run as administrator). I have found CoH/V needs to be run as Admin in Win7 to work properly.
Also what sound card do you have, and what video card do you have? Have you tried running in windowed mode? Are your drivers up to date?

to expand a bit on Shecky's question about the drivers, did you download the drivers from the nVidia site or are you using the drivers that Windows installs? The native Windows 7 drivers are fine for Word, Excel, Solitaire, and other non-graphics intensive programs but not at all capable of running the game. Make sure that you download the correct drivers from the nVidia website.
Secondly, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.
Thirdly, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

there it all is. hope it helps.
You know....you might try updating your video driver...
Yes i am sure you might be using the latest digitally signed version...
I am refering to using the latest one as in the testing non-digital signed beta version....it seams many computer users had some issues like what you described when using new supposed stable versions....and the latest beta versions seam to correct the issues..
They corrected an issue i had after i updated...which caused city of heroes to freeze my machine...
This is just a suggestion....
After all you said you had it running before so it cant hurt.
To find the beta nvidia drivers just look down in the text on the download driver screen...thats the screen where they want you to select your video card type...in the text below you will see a link to the beta(unstable drivers) as they like to call them.
Lets just say if you had not noticed...beta these days means from alot of companies: "this is what is coming out next and wont change unless it blows up or breaks something really bad."
ok il give it a shot.
The other solution would be to go back to a previous driver release.
You can find many of the previous drivers at Guru3d.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
looks like putting the beta drivers in fixed it. been playing for almost a hour and its still working. thanks alot for helping me all. you all rock
I installed Windows 7 64bit a few days ago. it was a clean install from XP pro. when I got CoX downloaded and what not it ran fine. everything was at default so I change the resolution to 1680x1050 and turn up all the settings. everything was fine for about 10 to 15 minutes till the game totally froze, and it would loop whatever the last sound was. windows froze as well and forced me to do a hard boot just to get back to my desktop. I tried everything I can think of. I tried running it as admin and when I do that it gets to the loading screen before the login then shortly after stops responding. I tried turning on the capability for XP and vista, when I pick XP it takes a hour and a half just to get to the zone loading screen (I really mean it it took a hour and a half, I timed it.). when I tried the vista setting it would start then hang until it quit responding.
I searched the boards here and google and came up with nothing. all I can tell is either no one has problems or some people have problems, and the people with problems never get a straight answer or no solution. my system specs are:
Windows 7 64bit
Intel 2.4 quad
4 GIGs DDR3 ram
EVGA 790i motherboard
two ZOTAC GTS 250 in SLI
I have no anti spyware/virus or firewall installed other then windows firewall. It's just windows and whatever updates are out along with logitec software to run my mouse and keyboard. Also as a side note I have a Asus laptop also running:
Windows 7 64bit
2.5 dule-core
6 GIGs DDR2 ram
One GeForce GTX 260M videocard
With this CoX won't even get to the log in screen. the screen will flash for a second then go back to my desktop and ill hear the start music. I doubt they have anything in common other then they both won't run CoX. but incase the added info helps there it is.
I have no idea what to do about this I'v been playing CoH for a few years now and CoV sense launch. I have never had any problems like this before and its very disheartening to be fighting this all day without even a hint of a fix anywhere. I'm starting to feel like it's just me and I hope thats the case. Any help would be more than welcome but please dont post that you have had no problems or had this working on some beta version. I want help not a story on what you did for the weekend. Sorry to sound like a jerk but I'm at the end of my rope with this.
