Window Opacity

Bright Shadow

I believe this issue was 'fixed' a while. But I'm starting to experience it again.

A lot of times when I zone, my windows change opacity to something random. It's really annoying, as they turn almost transparent most of the time.

It also happens if I click "Apply Now" in the options window.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Well I was just messing with mine to try to figure it out for you. I keep mine around 50%, which means I can distinctly see and read them just fine, while also being able to clearly see through them. When the focus is on a window, it darkens even more.

By now, I have no idea what the default value is or what anybody else uses. The only thing I can figure is that you might have your Opacity set very low. I couldn't duplicate your results at all. I'd try messing with your options and see if maybe you have "Dim All Windows" Enabled or something by mistake.

It's never been fixed and always operated in the buggy way you described.

Window Transparency Setting

It doesn't stick. Every time the options window is opened the slider moves toward zero.
Workaround: The transparency of the windows can be set with the /window_color command. It takes an argument of four integers from 0 - 255 each separated by a space. The four integers set the Red, Green, Blue, and Alpha (transparency) values. And so, e.g.,
  • /window_color 0 255 0 100 -- would yield very green window borders that are nearly half transparent with the window space on the inside nearly invisible.
  • /window_color 200 0 200 230 -- would yield very purple borders about 60% opaque and an inside window about 90% opaque.

Such commands can be set to a bind or macro or popmenu for quick resetting. Or it can be bound to an often used command so that it's constantly being reset without having to think about it.

I have a custom wdw.txt file. I'm assuming that because the Opacity values for each window is individually set by that file, the global value doesn't affect them? At least that would explain why I can't duplicate the OP's results anyway.

On a side note, When I opened my options window, the slider didn't move toward zero, but rather the opposite.. it's showing me 53%, when I know it used to be 50% at one time. It probably depends on some combination between your resolution and your window scaling to determine which direction the slider will "tick" to.

I doesn't move to zero. Just a random number. I only notice it when it goes below 50%.

I have my default opacity at 100%, and I dim all my windows when they're inactive. When they are active, they're at 100%, because I role play and I like to have a readable text.

And thanks for the info Zombie Man. But I could've sworn it was fixed when I16 hit, and it was broken again just when the immediate patch after it hit live.

This^^^. It has never been fixed. I've worked with several community managers on it, and was last told (by Ex Libris, I believe) that they have yet to discover a reliable way to reproduce the bug. It just happens ALL THE TIME, so they can't isolate the cause.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

It is so bloody annoying of a bug...

...but at least not as annoying as the chat bug we used to have.
