Is my Inv/SS hot or not?
Soft-capped to s/l with 1 foe in range. I'm not convinced I need to do this, especially with 87.4% s/l resistance. I'm thinking I should rework some to move some s/l bonuses to get more energy/neg def. Right now that's 40% def (with 1 foe in range). I do get capped to that type with 4 foes. With only 30% resists, Energy's gonna hurt and Recluse certainly has that. Also, I do a fair number of LGTFs so energy and psi are types I can't just avoid. |
Looking over your build there are some changes to make. For one, you really don't need that KB IO in CJ and SJ; it's a VERY expensive waste. Remember as an Invuln you're interested in TYPED defense, not positional.
Check out my soft cap guide for suggestions on how to reach the soft cap without breaking the bank... you won't need Maneuvers either. One of the keys is Reactive Armor in your resists. It ends up a fairly tight build but you should have room for a couple of APP powers... and if you want to tank the STF a ranged attack comes in very handy for Ghost Widow. A ranged attack is also a good place for a Thunderstrike set; 3 of them gives you a 2.5% E/N defense bonus.

Yeah, I pretty much get that Invul is typed defense not positional, having played the set for about 1000 hours across other characters as well.
Let me give a reminder that Zephyrs give typed defense bonuses in addition to positional. With the current build there is 42.8% cold/fire def. Without the 2 -kb Zephyrs, it's 39.7. At the risk of sounding boorish, I don't really care about "economic value", given the inf at my disposal. Still, I will evaluate some of the suggestions above to see if I'm confortable with the changes. I thank you both for your time.

I agree with you to a certain extent on the BotZ; I think getting 1.56% E/NE def for two slots is a pretty good deal. Personally, I would never recommend that a Invul tank spend the kind of influence required for the unnecessary -KB IO and the F/C bonus since there are much more efficient ways to get F/C def, but hey, it's your influence.
IMO, the main problem with using what are basically positional def sets (Mako's, Scirocco's Dervish) to get typed defense is that it is an inefficient use of slots. Three Erad in Footstomp would give you twice as much E/NE def as you are getting F/C def from the Scirocco's; three slots of Aegis in one of your resist powers will give you the same F/C def as both BotZ bonuses. Bottom line, spending more slots than needed to get to def cap means you'll have fewer to slot for other desirable bonuses.

I would say that you shouldn't be convinced, however given "your build" and you wanting to have good psionic , you won't necessarily be better off. I would stay capped to S/L.
When it comes to Psionics, from the days prior to IOs, am used to getting by with hastened dullpain to help make me a bag of hitpoints and a nice insp tray, but now you can easily pick up Elusive Mind.
I think you should slot Tough in the way you have slotted RPD but then keep RPD as one slot and move the Steadfast +3% def to it and find yourself with slightly more S/L res, slightly less end drain and a free slot to play with.

My very first char in this game is an Inv/SS tank that I had put into semi-retirement, but lately I'm feeling that my namesake needs to get some IO loving.
I had used him, on occasion, for farming, but I have better choices for that now, so I'm ready to take him down a new path - hard core, heavy tank. I'm talking about a legit choice to go toe-to-toe with Recluse.
Before posting the build a few thoughts:

So, whatcha think?
I'm going to miss my Laser Beam Eyes, terribly, but it looks like Maneuvers is pretty critical.
