arctic fog super laggy

My system runs smooth as silk normally. But if I turn on Arctic Fog on my fire/cold corruptor, it slows down dramatically and becomes extremely jerky. Even if I turn my graphics down extremely low this happens. Any thoughts on why this is happening or how I could fix it?

• CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
  
• HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. might wanna update windows also. i see that it is out of date as service pack 2 has come out months ago.

So the virus is gone and I have updated windows, but the problem persists (though everything else is a bit faster now).

I found the problem, at least for my system. For some reason Windows was set to optimize for background services. Changing it to optimize for Programs fixed the problem.
