Unrefundable Auction Post

I am an avid villain and I just recently started playing heroes after deleting all my blues during i10. I placed a post on the auction then realized that I had posted the wrong thing for the wrong amount. Granted, it was only a few thousand but when I clicked cancel, I didnt get a refund.

I've been told that the reason for this is to deter people from placing items on the auction for large amounts, but I feel that the market would work itself out in that people just won't intentionally pay for something that's overpriced. However, I don't understand this rationality. If someone is removing something from the auction, it's not "overpriced." It's probably a mistake. Can someone explain this in a way in which it would make more sense?

The reason for this post is not for myself, but for those who are new to the game who don't have a 50 to farm infamy/influence with. Instead, they have to scrape and scrouge currency to be able to post something. If they made this mistake, they'd be back to ground zero with nothing to show for it.

I feel that the auction system would work itself out without the intervention of the devs or GMs and that if someone cancels an auction, they should get a full refund of the auction systems cut.

The system you suggest (this should be in the "Suggestions" forum, btw) would allow people to freely manipulate the market by posting things for large amounts without any penalty, then creeping slowly downward until they found exactly the amount someone else was willing to pay, making the posting of items completely risk-free.

I'm sorry you had a negative experience, but I've found the game's community to be very helpful in situations where things like this have happened, and myself have been both the beneficiary and the benefactor when folks have run across unfortunate situations like what you describe. I cannot support a change to the system that would lead to consequence-free price gouging, and believe that the community as a whole is strong and friendly enough to help new characters recover from these kinds of setbacks. Moreover, there are a number of ways to make inf quickly and easily that require neither a 50 nor farming, and the penalties for careless marketeering are clearly spelled out by all of the market assistant NPCs. I do not believe that your proposal is, therefore, necessary.

Peripherally, here are a couple of ways get off "Ground zero" (get your first million or whatever.) I'm going to start with some FAQ's:

Q1. Doesn't this rip off other players?
A1. Not really; other players are volunteering to sell you stuff cheap. Maybe they want sales badges, maybe they want crafting badges, maybe they're donating to strangers because it's a relatively small amount of inf for them. If I'm buying stuff for myself, I am actually an overpaying customer, because I've made enough money from other people overpaying that I can afford it. Likewise, if I'm selling salvage I probably won't see the difference between selling for 1 inf and 10,000 inf. I make my money other ways.

Q2. Why are you giving away your secrets? How can this work? Why isn't everyone doing this?
A2. There's an enormous amount of "free cash" in the system- billions and trillions of inf; a million or two is a lot to a starting player, but a level 50 can earn that by accident while helping a friend out.

Getting back to "your first million":

You can buy unpopular recipes very cheaply at Wentworth's, or buy high level SO's, and run them back and forth to a nearby store. If you're buying level 43 yellow Confuse recipes, for instance, they sell to the store for 4300 inf each and you can generally pick them up for 500 or less each. Profit to you: 3800 inf per recipe. If you hold 10, that's 38,000 inf per run. If you can do a run in 2 minutes (say in Kings where the vendor is Right There) that's 380,000 inf in 20 minutes, or over a million an hour.

If you do this for an entire hour, you will get bored out of your mind. But it can get you enough inf for your first set of SO's and you'll never be poor again.

You can also usually find some uncommon salvage that's selling for 100K apiece, grab some tickets quick, make one or two and sell them. Boom, there's your starting money.

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.

You're talking about Confuse Set recipes, right?

Confuse Common level 40 recipes sell for 10.4K each at a store. So assuming a (rounded) profit of 10K per recipe x a stack of 10 = 100K per run.

1> Bumping threads is against the forum rules.
2> If you're taking back your suggestion, WHY would you want to have people bump the thread so that they can see a suggestion that you're no longer supporting?
