There are still lots of supplies of GvE floating about.

[/ QUOTE ]

And would you honestly stock a 2 year out of date game in your shop if you had one?

[/ QUOTE ]

If it was marketed by the publishers decently, yes. Warcraft still has plenty of shelf presence, even in it's original box... That's because Blizzard market it aggressively.

[/ QUOTE ]

WoW still sells, this dont, thats the difference.

As far as the retailers are concerened any edition of CoH is a 5 year out of date game.

Which is why it would be very difficult indeed to get them to stock the same game in a new box.

Thats understood, as it is it feels like its the players that are the only people spreading the word though, whilst that is good to an extent, there is only so much we can do.

Completely signed your post, Mr. Questionmark... I don't know the situation in the UK or the rest of Europe, but at least here in Spain CoV boxes are quite hard to be found (the ones on sale are the SAME ones that the one I bought years ago with Issue 6 or so), and forget it about the CoH ones. ANY kind of box would be appreciated.

If you really want to get much more customers, you should run the same policy as WoW, as I posted about this several times... the HUGE amount of the WoW different editions filling the shelves, T.V. advertisements, while it's almost impossible to find anything related to CoH/CoV.

[/ QUOTE ]

Given that WoW rakes in several thousand times as much as CoH, they could spend 1% of thier income on marketing and still spend more than the entire income of NCwest.

Sadly i got to agree with you there.

This lot missed the advertising boat years ago, i think advertising it now a waste of money for the return they are going to get.

They should have grabbed the customers while they had a monopoly on the super hero game market.

Makes me laugh that they are still going with the secret, more to come soon stale carrot [censored].

Indeed, CoH launched in the US before WoW. If they had marketed as agressively at the time, they could have had at least a portion of the expansion in the MMO market that occured then.

And in that economic climate it would have been much easier to borrow the money from the banks in order to do so.

I agree that they missed the FIRST advertising boat years ago, but now, with competition not far away, NOW is a perfect opportunity to tell people about a superhero MMO that's ALREADY on the market. They don't HAVE to wait ages for something that's not out yet, they can be a hero NOW.

It's not often a game has a second window of opportunity, but CoH is getting one, and NC West aren't jumping on it... again...

You must spend money to make money.

...hard philosophy to follow in the wake of a Global downturn, still... NCwest have done absolutely b£$ger all for Europe since their formation. I know Its a cliche' of the American business mentality that the World stops at their shores but they really aren't doing anything to disprove that cliche'.

I dont see it that way, i see it as now its a waste of money advertising.

If i was going to start a new game now, i'd wait and start a new, new game, not a 5 year old one that gets nothing but bad press about the company running it.

Given that if I walk into my local game shop, probably the majority of game boxes on the shelves are two or more years old, I find that emark very amusing.

Obviously, I don't expect to pay ful price for those older games, and even WoW or BC sell for a huge amount less than the retail price at launch, but (AFAIK) MMOs don't make money on the box, they make money on the subscription fee. (So quite why any shops stock the games I don't know.)

Speculating to accumulate is what they should have done years ago. Not now in my opinion.

The difference there I think is that MMOs don't make the parent company money on the box but they would make as much money for a shop as any other niche game that they stock (unless they don't sell for some reason).

Regardless of how amusing you found that, heres the reality, WoW box's obviously still sell or they wouldnt be on the shelf.

This games box's dont sell or they would be on the shelf.

Don't know if this got mentioned in the MA Academy thread, but apparently we're due a new retail box, featuring the MA, sometime in the near future. Details currently unknown.

Wow, a new retail box. Clearly the game is DOOMed!

[/ QUOTE ]

Not before time and I've been advocating this for ages. Good news and good for the game! Let's just hope they get it into the shops

Hey guys n gals...look I see a new box being shipped out as a good thing, EVE online our about to try this too....a game that is about as old as COX...also just as well known. The EVE playerbase see a new retail box as a good thing, it can only expand there payerbase and fun.

So i think the COX playerbase should see the retail box in the same light.

I am interested to find out which version of the client is coming to the EU shores though...EU or US...that would be very interesting to know don't you think?

Or the shops can't get them. Tried getting a copy online recently? Generally, you can't, no supply.

I'm going to ask that this thread be closed down. I'm sick of anything even remotely positive being turned into something negative by people like you who clearly want nothing more than to spend their time rubbishing a game they claim to enjoy.

I do enjoy this game, i just think the company running it have gone from being mediocre to dire.

And where is the positive aspect for us in the EU,that they aint releasing it here?

I understand the frustration but closing the thread because people are arguing their corner isn't going to help. Just keep things civil and respect others right to hold a different opinion.

Closing the thread will just be like lopping the head off a Hydra, the debate is clearly raw and justified and If it is locked another thread on the same topic will spring up before long.

Hi all,

Unfortunately there are currently no plans to release this in Europe as an actual box. Producing a box run is an expensive process, and there are other factors involved that will become clear in time (no, not server mergers or anything like that).

It will, however, be available via the PlayNC store.

I recently read an article here that talks about 12 recommendations by the Euopean Network and Information Security Agency, one of which is:

To the developers, they recommend that they create a balance between detection and prevention, to clearly specify what data is collected on players, to establish a (refundable) pay-per complaint system to weed out false complaints, to develop stringent user authentication, to create standards for working with governments and to offer CD software rather than just online acquisition.

I did read the thread...at least the start of it...I couldn't be bothered reading all the huffing, puffing, general doom mongering and name calling ...kind of puts a person off you know?

But anyway what I said still stands even if it will be a download client for the EU....which version will it be.

What would be the point? It'll download exactly the same way the game does now... No ISO image or anything like that; just a small updater that then downloads the rest of the game. You can already pay extra for the booster packs, so the Architect Edition download will be no different to doing something like buying the Mac Edition, really...

I'd have bought a physical box, as I really really want updated discs, but a download only? Waste of money, as I'm not really interested in the magic booster pack, none of my chars are magic.
