Scenary and climate

How many of you enjoy just jogging arround the cities in Coh and Cov just taking in the scenary of the area.

The vast jungles of the nerva archepelago
the thick forests of croatoa
the towering cliffs of cimerora
the towering buildings of steel canyon.

To be honest the only place i have ever just hung arround in for the scenary are places like the shadow shard, the abyss and maybe pocket D.

The thing is for people to enjoy the scenary and climate you have to make a really epic landscape with really key lighting effects to make it pleasent, sinister, or epic to express the general wanted feel of the area.

Now i think that the general atmosphere of the CoX world is quite dull and 'grey' because there isn't too much excitement associated with city back ally's

Now if you look at superhero landscapes from films and such.

The massive frozen landscapes created by the silver surfer
the burning waerhouse in spiderman 2
the dark fast pased underpass in the dark knight
the lengthy deserts in the hulk
the crystal cave in superman

how many extravigant or vibrant landscapes do we have like that in Cox, not many i believe...

Now my point is that there is so much potential in the gameworld we have currently, with Ouroboros there is anywhere in any time zone as a place for a zone. there is the rest of the continent behind paragon city and croatoa has aready made use of that space so more could be added.

Now some people will probally be thinking that this will just add more content that will be used once and then not again, or will be outleveld and unused by most players, thats fair enough, but the way i would add this in would be as areas for end level content, and i know that the lack of endlevel content is one of if not the bigest problem the Cox team currently face with losing players, and i have myself surcome to this before when i have stopped playing the game due to lack of excitement.

So i recon by adding new zones with more epic zone events GM's climates and atmospheres the Cox team could make coX into a more end game friendly game with hopefully enough content to entertain us so that we would be happy enough to play only one character most of the time.

More variety in the zones would be great. More endgame content? Awesome!!

If they could make good graphics more accessible, its be nice. Also, making shadows and such more realistic would be cool.
Sunrise over Atlas, etc. But dark in the alleyways, would be atmospheric.
And /Signed for more variety

I'm not 100% certain what Teeheehee is saying, so I'll address the myriad ideas which he brings up:

I think Teeheehee is wrong about landscape variety and here is why. Please allow me to rearrange your post:

That's naming but a few. THere are an enormous number of landscapes in CoX... in fact, I'd say it's one of CoX's strongest points.

Winter event zones = The massive frozen landscapes created by the silver surfer
Steel Canyon burning buildings, burning offices of the Hellions = the burning waerhouse in spiderman 2
Any of the many underpasses in zones such as Talos and Boomtown = the dark fast pased underpass in the dark knight
the lengthy deserts in the hulk - I'll give you this one, I've not played in a desert, but ... deserts are kinda dull...
Any cave with the Devouring Earth = the crystal cave in superman

SO, I would guess that you're talking from the perspective of a villain, perhaps? I am not qualified to say much about villainside (becuase I got bored with the dull landscape and solo-gameplay).

Here you are getting to the point, I think. It's just groups of mobs hanging about waiting to be aggro'd (even if they ARE in the never-ending mugging animation). Sure, this is common to most MMORPG games, but it is an element of gameplay which could be changed for the better, come on! It's 2009!

When you take a look at the films you mention, the common element is that something is happening in those scenes - Something is happening in The Hulk's desert, something is happening in Spiderman's burning building.

Okay, so maybe what you're getting at is the fact that although you're in the exotic looking Shadow Shard the mission maps are boring old council/crey bases and warehouses? I agree, this deservees a revamp and would make the gameplay much more interesting - I sign for more and varied mission maps, please.

Where the graphics are concerned: While I agree that the scenery in CoX is a bit duff, I'd also go on to say that we're talking about very old game graphics here. The buildings are blocky and angular, you can often see tiles when you're a long way off (though the trees and water have obviously been updated over time). Not only this, but I think that travel powers make/made it very difficult for the developers to create a mood. Flying/teleporting and superleaping high above the trees means that the moody atmosphere in Perez Park's wooded area is completely wasted, hardly experienced and usually teleported past.

In World of Warcraft (I know, just bear with me), there were several memorable areas in the original game where you really identified with a mood. For example, when you are travelling through a forest inhabited by stealthed tigers and come across a pirate bay! Wow! It's exciting because it's interesting, there's a hint of danger and it's fun! In CoX, there are very few such special moments - you can always fly away and avoid coming this route in future. These are examples of the subtle touches which REALLY made WoW succeed in a way that no other game has.

Going off topic slightly, I get a sense that players want a move interesting environment: One where they can interact more with the scenery, perhaps they might click something and get a reaction - "Wow! I never expected that to happen! Hey guys, try doing this!" - that kind of thing. Anyway, I'm sure it will happen one day.

I think the lack of 'Sky scenery' is what makes it dull for those that have Fly,SJ or TP. Even when there is the odd flying enemy, thats about the limit.

As you pass through the skyscrapers in Steel, there should be jump gangs of Outcasts, hovering Tsoo spirits, more than just blank buildings to traverse through. Certain areas of the Hollows have floating rocks, which makes a nice change. Maybe rip up some more big chunks and pepper them around the Eastgate/CoT areas.

I havent played WoW except once or twice at a friends, and I agree that, visually, its a pretty snazzy game (Not as sure about the gameplay, and I did have quibbles with the sort of people that seemed to paly it -shrug- ) There is nothing wrong with looking and learning, and maybe the Devs need to do a bit more looking at new ideas.
They could even look at the suggestion thread, but that might be a bit of a long shot

I can't think of anything in WoW that's new, so looking in there seems a bit of a waste. I just started playing again over there and I'm already bored because (oddly enough) playing levels 70-80 is strangely the same as playing levels 1-70 was. It's just more WoW. (The developers are obviously getting sued to the scene editors though, the interior models are getting more complex structurally, if not graphically.)

WoW is planning to introduce dual-builds with the next release (3.1)...

The chances of WoW getting anything remotely like the MA anytime soon are remote to say the least.

I kind of think the flyers, who have to put up with slow speed to pay for safety, would hate this...

Still, would be nice if there was some air 'scenery' y'know? Something to make the city seem more alive.
An airport?
But dont wear a cape if going near planes. We alllll know what happens there
