Timing of Name Choice
There's already the "Check Name" button on the toon selection screen (just underneath the new scrollbar) - you can use this to see whether a name's free before you actually start creating a new character.
didnt see that. thanks, I'll give this a go tonight while I spam Union with Alts
yw - it's not quite as handy as being able to give the name at the start of generation itself, as doing the check doesn't actually reserve anything. So you could still lose the name if someone else claims it between your check and your finishing the new character.
Still, if it's gone unclaimed for the several years before you checked it the odds are good it'll stay free for 10 minutes more.
As standoff says there's already the "check Name" thing unfortunately you've got to remember and use it and also hope no one has the same inspiration as you and manages to beat you to the punch.
It would be nice if you could do the character creation in any order eg. create name then go on do a costume and pick powers or create costume then go on and pick powers and name.
For me the clunkiness of the system, especially in regard to Server Transfers, highlights how poor NCNC are at designing some interfaces.
It'd be logical for an automatic check and warning as part of the Transfer process too. But no, you have to do it manually before you transfer or you just get renamed.

Uh... I moved Lost Ninja (blaster) from Union to Defiant, and while I got a free rename because I had a Lost Ninja on Defiant it didn't happen automatically. For a while I had both Lost Ninja's in the character list together.
I wish to god they'd save the descriptions.
Gone in, powers, look, name, bio...wait, somethings not quite right...go back and fix it, come back...
All that lovely writing is gone.
Yes, I COULD type it in word....but word has no, heh, word limit. The bio box does. Ergo, either they could do us a favour and remove the word limit, or do us a favour and save the writings. Plzkthx XP

GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

yeah and I find that editing the bio description is a pain in the proverbial.
A tip; you can use the word count in Word as a guide

Thelonious Monk
I'm not sure if this would open the door too wide for bots to single out player names for sending spam but I hate the fact that you start the character creator, you choose your AT, then choose your powerset, then design a costume that suits teh background you have in mind or just looks cool and then you end up giving the hero a name like L33tGuy11101 because the name you had in mind has already been taken.
I ended up calling him Hawkwood - an English mercenary who controlled most of nothern Italy at different stages - really , look him up, its really interesting stuff - Point it, at that stage I didnt want to go back a re-design the costume to better suit Hawkwood (I'll do it later at the tailor
). If I had known that The Duellist was taken, I'd have possibly gone for one of the other alt ideas I have in the works.
I'd like the naming stage of the hero to come first or at the time the powersets are chosen.
*last night I made a dual blade scrapper on Union with a uniform like the three musketeers. I wanted to call him The Duellist but when I was ready to go to the tutorial the name was already taken
