Skipping to the AVs.

Can anyone tell why some do this in the last mission of the Time's Arrow (Impy) TF?

I have been in a few runs when this tactic has been used. I've been told its quicker. But how is that possible if you have to still kill 150 (there abouts) traitors after taking down Romi and his friends (even less when you don't head straight to the AVs) and every run like this has always ended back at the entrance.

I don't have anything against it. I just really don't understand it.

I guess the reasoning is on an 8 man team you will kill more than the required ammount if you grind your way there.

Go direct to the av, clear platform etc and beat the av. This'll give you figure of how many you need then just fight back.
On the most recent runs I've done we've gone to the AV then had fun after clearing on top the big towers. Very good with a herder and a few blasters.

Now that I wouldn't mind doing other then fighting back towards the entrance.

well given the difficulty of Romulus and those bloody healing pets, teams normally like to gank him first, rather than fight 300 opponents only to find they havn't the inspirations, or the ability to defeat him. It's simply to make sure that you aren't wasting your time.
