Hehe, that was just a theoretical execise and it involved Vengeance and was quite a gimped build.
Not sure which defence cap can be achieved with WP, I'd say it's typed, at least when I was planning sets for my Spines/WP I was going for typed.
Anyway, it wouldn't surprise me if def cap could be reached on a WP.-
Oh well. Sometimes I hate IO's :P I still love SR anyway.

I think the def cap will be hard on WP cause some of the types are a fair bit lower than others (where you get your res)
My Claw/WP does play really nicely though with hardly any IOs in the build. It really doesn't feel like it needs much of a pimping

Hmmm, on top of my head, 3% from CJ, 3% Steadfast Protection Unique, 4% from Maneuvers and 5% from Weave makes 15% to all. If I am not wrong, from WP you can get around 15% def to all typed but psi in one power and around a 10% psi def on the mez prot toggle, that leaves us with a 30% def all and 25% psi. We can squeeze Hover for an additional 3%... but it's Hover on a scrapper, prolly not the best choice.
From there, most of the sets I used gave bonuses for positional defenses, although there are a couple resistance sets that give some bonuses for typed. The Gaussian Synchronized Fire Control gives 2.5% def only to positional defenses, hence does not help much here. Mako's Bite, Touch of Death, Scirocco's Dervish, Red Forune, Serendipity, Titanium Coating, Aegis, all them grant positional bonuses so they don't apply here either since we need to go typed def.
Gah, will take a look at it when I get back home but atm don't think soft cap can be achieved unless maybe as a theoretical exercise which imo would be quite gimped on play.
Anyway, achieving a 25% - 30% defense plus resistances and regeneration is quite good achievement, let's bear in mind that before inventions, a SR scrapper with just SR powers was in the 27.5% - 30.4% defense level (I can never remember if 30.4% was including Combat Jumping or not) and they were good enough for PvE anyway, so having that defense plus resistances plus a massive regeneration makes WP quite a tough PvE scrapper.
OK, this is the closest I could get with typed defense, as Cynic said, too many types to handle, closer one was Energy def with 42.5%
The slotting and power selection are totally gimped and this build lacks accuracy everywhere, it was just a theoretical test to see how close I could get to defense cap:

I am quite happy with my WP scrapper hitting around 30-35% defense against everything, combined with the resistances it makes him very hard to kill. I really don't see the point in compromising what is the main function of scrappers, hitting stuff, in order to boast that I can hit the defense soft cap.
Call me lazy, but I've never enjoyed playing around with Mid's trying to figure out which sets can max my toons performance. It's handy alright, but I can't spend over 10 mins doing it.
I have been quite inactive since I11 release and therefore I've never teamed with many high lvl WPs.. 'til last weekend.
I know WP offers a mix of defence and resistance and shitloads of regen when in certain situations. What I didn't knew is that you could nearly hit Defence cap with it. At least it's what this Claws/WP scrapper I've teamed with claims to have.
Sure, he had this crazy amount of IO bonuses but I never thought he could hit ~35% Def for both Melee and Ranged dmg.
My first thought was "that's bull". And I hope it is. I love my SR scrapper and I would hate seeing WP surpass or have as much Defence as I do, added to their insane regen and nice resists.
Summing up, all I want to know is how much defence can a WP scrapper have?
