Buff & Debuff
Buff: Something beneficial to you (or your allies)
Debuff: Something detrimental to your opponent

Buffs are to players, as debuffs are to critters.
Wait, what?
[ QUOTE ]
My thinking is "buff" will grant you more hits on your attackers and "Debuff" will make your attackers miss you more?
[/ QUOTE ]This assumption is true only for Accuracy and ToHit. Buffing your Accuracy/ToHit will make you hit more; debuffing the opponent's Accuracy/ToHit will make them hit less.
By contrast, buffing your Defense will make them hit less, and debuffing their defense will make you hit more.
Buffing your Resistance will make them hit for less damage, debuffing their Resistance will make you hit for more damage. Buffing your Damage will make you hit for more damage, debuffing their Damage will make them hit for less damage. Et cetera.

In the time I have been playing CoX, starting from mid 2004 through 2005 then taking a hiatus and coming back in Jan. 09, I would say the biggest single thing that still confuses me is the "Buff" and "Debuff" selection when it comes to picking up enhancements. I am sure this has been brought up before and I know I read this somewhere in these forums, heck I think I may have even had a previous posting on this...lol.
So, with that being said,..again...what is the best way to differentiate between the two? In reading the descriptions, I am always still confused over this. My thinking is "buff" will grant you more hits on your attackers and "Debuff" will make your attackers miss you more?
