Yay Liz posted the Craig Mullins link... I lost mine on my old hard drive, and was hating the thought of searching for him, since I forgot his last name... thankyouthankyouthankyou!!! :0

Tarty: think of it this way, if you had the proper skill and didn't need to use any effects or filters in order to achieve what you envision in your head... wouldn't you be more proud of "that" work then the stuff you did with just filters and effects. I understand the immediacy of wanting to see a finished colored piece... I did tons of this stuff, before knowing anything close to what I do now... I can't even look at that work without shaking my head. The people in this forum were very kind, and no... no one told me to stop using them. But none of that work was what I truly wanted to achieve, it was just work I could only achieve, without knowing better or trying to get better...

All I'm really saying is, strive to be better, it's worth it to your work.

ahh well.. took me ten times longer ta rig up the lighting in 3d then it woulda had I just pained 2d..

WAIT WAIT.. how about if I put that stuff at the END of the painting AFTER I finish painting it normally as a 2d painting?.. then it would be like using filters AFTER I already painted normaly... that would work wouldnt it????

If you feel that using this program is worth it to you, and how you wish to define your work. That is your choice. All I can say is why? Why work so long on 3D modeling a 2D image you say you can do faster? Is the 3D better than your 2D work? Do you like the look more, if so, again that is your choice. You asked for a critique, I based the critique on the coloring methods I know. If you want a critique on 3D modeling, I have no basis of comparison. Maybe Doug could chime in...

I'd say that your want to use the 3d program is corrupting your work. You're much better off just staying away from it for now, or using it in the pieces where you're much more familiar with the style already.

You can do whatever you want really, but many of the forum regulars have basically warned you that this is likely a bad path to follow. It's up to you now whether or not you want to listen to the voice of experience or forge ahead. Either way, it'll be your decision and your art.

yay.. learned at skin 3d models now... so I can just save the 3d stuff for movies and animation along with my flash stuff..

as far as anime artist then.. how about Masami Obari ?? .. well the creator of ranma 1/2 or clamp would also be good.. but there works seem ta elude me for some reason.. ranma's eyes always come out wrong :*(

Masami Obari is kind of an extreme style and so is Clamp works. Rumiko Takahashi is a more 'normal' style indicative of anime in general, but it's a little dated.

For general anime art style, you likely want to look at a midpoint between Full Metal Panic, Read or Die, Full Metal Alchemist and Onegai Teacher. More stylized than that, you get into Soul Eater, Negima, Bleach and Naruto.

That's roughly the limits of 'average' styles. Once you eclipse that, you get into a whole nother world of craziness, like Utena, xxxHolic, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Hale Nochi Guu, Ghost in the Shell, Studio Ghibi stuff, FLCL, Airmaster, Detroit Metal City, Hellsing, Yu-gi-Oh and Last Exile. All of which have their own very unique styles.
