I feel I should expand a little bit on this whole thing. Since I am the Victory "Emo kid" (I admit it myself but that doesn't seem to stop people from trying to exploit it as some sort of weakness), I've been "chemically depressed" since I was about 12. I'm nearly 21 now.

Sure, depression can be hard to deal with, and a lot of people just don't understand. "Go cry, Emo Kid, you can be happy if you choose to."

No, you can't. Take it from someone who's experienced in the field. No. You. Can't.

Things have gotten a lot better since my chemical depression started, but let me tell you one thing-- Anti-depressants are NOT the way to go. In most cases (Speaking from personal experience here) they end up hurting you far worse than they would have helped you. Mostly if for some reason you miss a dose or run out... something similar. Or if you decide to stop taking the one you have and switch to something else.

What it took me a while to realize is that no matter what, it's impossible to make everyone happy. That's how life works. You'll find some nice people, and you'll find some [censored]. Nothing you can do can stop said people from being [censored], no matter how hard you try. So why fret about it? If they don't like you, that's their problem for not taking the time to know how great of a person you are.

This is somewhat unrelated, but it still applies. One time I told my girlfriend, "How can you expect me to love you if you can't even love yourself?" I felt as soon as those words came out of my mouth, I had answered the big question I had been wondering since I was 12: Why doesn't anyone love me?

I know, it's cheesy, and you've heard it a million times. But if some people don't like you, as I like to say, "[censored] 'em." Ask yourself why you're a great person and eventually *gasp* you'll start to realize why you are.

That's how I feel about the whole situation, I KNOW things can suck sometimes, but you have to hang in there and show everyone that you're not just going to give up.

Emo: Noun: One who is depressed constantly... And made fun of constantly.

ok two things folks.

1. Depression is not a laughing matter. It is a very serious problem that many have to deal with on a daily basis, Some people cannot handle the constant depression and usually end their lives rather than live with it.

2. Being a person that gets poked at for being different of being taunted is not funny in any way. I have the last name Pottie and I was born with a doubble thumb, This ment that in school I had to be tough as nails and take the constant punishment that was dished out verbally and physically. Now don't get me wrong I was never depresed over it I instead got angry and I knew how to fight since I was 10 so I could beat the snot outta any one that bugged me in school. Needless to say just being a hard [censored] wasn't enough to stop the teasing. So take it from a 23 year old man that has had his share of bullying and teasing...It is not ok to make fun of people no matter what they are or who they are.

Now please understand that the main reason people have lots of depression is because of idiots who think it's ok to make others feel beneeth them by teasing or taunting them. Depression is a serious matter and people should seek the proper treatment to help them feel better. To all of you who make fun of the Depressed and call them "Emo" you should be ashamed of your selves because I know I am.

Sorry for being so Serious all but it really ticks me off when people act like that.

Two things:

1) Emos aren't depressed as much as... eh.. people who think they're depressed. Who want to be depressed, but aren't. And they make such a show about it, you can't help but laugh at them.

2) Picking on someone as a friend is different then picking on someone who isn't a friend. Example: When I say "I hate you, you stupid loser." to xoxman, I mean it exactly as it sounds. But if I said "I hate you, you stupid loser." to Derek, it's.. kinda like when you walk up to your pal and punch him in the shoulder. Or.. and older brother tackling his younger brother.

So we're just laughing with Derek at idiots. Got it? Good!

That only works if the receipient understands that it's in playful jest and not a serious insult. My friends never knew that I didn't understand that they were joking. I didn't understand the concept at the time. I didn't even understand that I didn't understand.

depression is serious. emos are mainly just a cry for attention. normally it ends up being negative atention. the quote that bas used is something i wouldnt consider emo but a serious case. emo has turned into more of a look than anything else really. its really just the stereotyping due to people reproducing real situations to make it appear their life sucks...

Wow, I certainly didn't expect that from this thread. Alrighty, explanation:

Emos are not depressed people. They are trying to get attention. If someone was really depressed, I would not be making fun of them in any way. Being 'emo' is just stupid, you're trying to be depressed to get attention. It doesn't work, really.

And I wasn't really being made fun of, it's a joke that a lot of people on these forums make. Would I say '/e slap' if I was really mad or annoyed? Probably not.

Hope that clears things up.

Exactly what I said, in smaller words.

Of course, this will be the only answer that people will read and understand.

No no no, you guys have it all wrong.

Emos are the people that like the "music" of today, including Linkin Park, Fallout Boy, Green Day, etc.

But don't worry! When I become a famous rockstar, I will usher in a new era and revitalization of 70's and 80's rock and metal, the rock that ROCKED, not this three-chord song crap. The time that guitar solos needed serious shredding skill. This will thus destroy emo and rap rock music in one fell swoop.

Anyway, yeah, when I do that you can all thank me. The end.

No, eventually the emos will *grow up* and develop proper musical tastes.

Myself, I've been seriously depressed for several years, made worse and more stressful by the fact that I have to live with and take care of my 79 year old bat-nuts crazy mother. :/

I wish my grass was emo. Then it would cut itself.

I used to be a cutter too, because I, like I suspect 9 out of 10 other cutters were, was *bored out of my mind*. Not abused, not abandoned, not particularly priveledged either, just bored.

Now I have some 47 hours worth of tattooing on me. Go figure.

I've just come off my meds in the last month, and for a while there I was ... really, really really bad. Like, crying for 4 hours straight for no reason whatsoever bad. I'm a lot better at this point, and I'm going to start *gasp* exersizing at the gym soon and that should also help.

Depression isn't something to make light of.

Emo, however, *is*. Emo is like, "trendy depressive behavior".

Unless just because someone is not feeling well you make fun and call them "stupid emo kid" "go cry" when there is really something that is serious, like depression. What SS said pretty much sums my feelings up.

And D: LOL that sounded exactly like the conversation we had except with emo and the other word interchanged... *Goes to create a speech to rebuttle D *

Oh, and have fun at dinner!

I've never met a genuinely depressed emo kid, really. Genuinely depressed kids rarely make that big of a deal of themselves, because that's a *problem* for them, usually.

I just hope that too many Emo kids don't grow up to be babybats and then Goths, because the world can only stand so many 30 year olds carrying black lunchboxes to work.

Hey, I listen to Linkin Park, Fallout boy, and Green Day. Emo kids listen to My Chemical Romance, Angels and Airwaves, and the like.

It's that they identify with the music that makes them emo, not just that they listen to it.

I wouldn't even go that far... you can identify with said music - the question is; are you *trying* to make people say "poor you"?

I listened to alot of Linkin Park and Greenday, Staind too, often during some of my hardest times... identifying with the music really does help.

The question is: What do you do with it?

If you just decide "I'm going to spend all my time trying to make people feel sorry for me" - that's "emo" in the negative sense.

If you decide "Ok, things have gone poorly, I'm depressed out of my skull... but I'm still here and I'm still trying" - that's something else.

The music can be quite cathartic in a rough spot so long as you let it bleed the negative off of you, rather than building it up. <x_x>
