When Portal Corp was still in its infancy, it traveled to many dimensions, often bringing home the natives. They found that the first natives died within a week on entering Earth's strange atmosphere. However the later ones, they didn't just live. They thrived... When the scientists of Portal Corp investigated this, they found that upon entry to our dimension, they evolved. They took a million years, and crammed it into an instant. Instead of dieing out in our atmosphere, they adapted, they brought their atmosphere with them, giving them incredible abilities. They abilities are shaped by the type of dimension they lived in.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

That is the basis of our story. The Adapted are people from other dimensions, that have evolved into superhumans. A good example of this is my character Johny Storm. He came from a primative planet, a planet soaked in the constant rains of its gigantic storms, that often last hundreds of years. In these rains, rainforests with trees so large, redwoods would be in the lower canopy, emerged. The reason why the planet was so primative was the constant warring of the nuclear races in the past. Without the plants, who developed immunity to the radiation in their leaves, the people would have died out. Johny is a Plant/Storm Dominator, though he isn't evil.

Dead Hook was not human. Not only was he not human but not humanoid. He was a living breathing virus. Upon entering earth through portal corps he immediately had to take a human host. This planet worked differently.

See on his home planet everyone was a virus. Each one would try to infect and thus dominate the others. But here the immune systems were much to high. But dead bodies had no immunity.

Upon entry to earth's dimension he hit a biological studies lab first. He raided and used every disease possible on himself so he could breed them and become stronger. Some diseases he made progress far more rapidly at the cost of the disease's staying power. Some he combined to make twice as deadly. Some he simply subjected to immunity vaccinations so they would grow stronger.

While him and his "minions" raided the lab he caught a glimpse of something on a T.V. He was captivated by it for it was the first television or monitor of any kind he had viewed. He saw a person dressed in a full pirate suit with a fencing sword and all. He knew he had to get something like that for himself.

This is three days after his break-in. The authorities were still after him. There had also been an outbreak of Ebola. Yet he sat in a coffee shop dressed like a pirate confident as ever and feeling quite normal.
