Whole-Team origins
When we started our SG, The Tumblers, we each had good stories for our characters, but everyone wrote their own and they were irrelevant to each other. I took each origin (under the guise of another player, Brother Grymm) and tied them together around one tragic storyline.
The summary is that the US Navy created a submarine to carry a superweapon against the Ritki. The plot was discovered and they manipulated Hitchhiker into destroying the submarine. Sara Phim's husband was on the sub. Cher Nobyl and Black Anvil created the superweapon. Rugrash, an ex-5th column member built the device that blew up the sub, etc. etc. The story introduces characters, but I also tried to give twists and turns to make it more interesting.
So far, I've integrated 15 characters into the story over 58 pages. Also, we recently had two of our main chars (1 person irl) leave for Iraq. I wrote a departure arc for them explaining their 1 year hiatus, which is one of my favorite subplots of the story.

If anyone is interested in joining, you don't necessarily need a story, but I've found people like seeing their character participate in something. We're on Pinnacle if anyone is interested. Also, we've got a forum, trading cards, and screenshots.

So, some guys I game with regularly have a themed supergroup (Gatchaman is our primary inspiration, aka "Battle of the Planets" in the states-- our SG is "Science Ninja Team Paragon," though short form is "Team Sentai" [I still don't know what 'Sentai' is]).
And we have, basically, a common origin. Despite the fact that there's a mutant and a tech origin in our group in addition to 3 science.
The team requirements were a costume configuration *excluding* elemental (fire, ice, earth) and dark -based power sets.
Our blaster, energy/energy, was born a mutant with this fantastic ability to control.... I dunno. Plasma. Energy X. You know-- the white bubbly stuff.
Our mutant blaster was studied by a scientist, who uses what he learns from the mutant to alter three other people out of a large pool of volunteers-- me, invuln/energy tank, our MA/Regen scrapper, and our grav/emp controller. The scientist also builds an android with the same discoveries (our tech origin, a rad/rad defender).
We're still hammering all the background details out-- I think we want to make sure we don't miss the chance to be true to genre in some way.
Anyhow, we're on victory, play on sundays.
Anyone else have common team origins?
