  1. sorry to see you go....

but i can't be the only one who wanted to answer this thread with a counter pass phrase like 'the priest leaves at midnight'......

    all the best Obsidius
  2. i just wanted to get this out there for others who may be having problems such as lock ups on log in, at server selection, etc.

window blinds / alien guise (loader programs for themes) software is interfering with 'something'. i just recently went through quite a headache trying to discover what was happening after updating to 260.xx (260.99 now available fyi) from 257.xx and after many hours of wtf and searching this appeared to be the problem.

of course, now i'm left with the unfortunately happy blue borders on everything......

That single episode hooked me onto the show, and the show more or less delivered on 33's promise, at least for the first couple of seasons.
33 was a phenomenal return to a situation months old in many viewers memories. it perfectly exposed the one sided fight we already knew, highlighted the man machine gap, and set baltar on the altar of six.

personally, i think bsg would have been good without baltar as we know him now. with him, it was great. caprica's greystone and stargate uni's rush are certainly no gaius baltar.

with just having seen the latest episode the news is mildly disappointing, but expected. too much time lingering on bomb plots and gangsterisms to finally get to a point where crafted souls and mechanical bodies start to come together. the idea of having early models show up in both sides of the tauron conflict, then one upmanship of attaching a crafted soul to the body for better ai is also interesting.

new bsg? hopeful, and cynical, at the same time.
  4. with the mention of i19 in the title, i assumed you were working from this patch and mid's hero builder.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=237758

i believe mid's and co may have added the option as well by now.
  5. here's an updated build example related to this thread here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=242072

others have created much better i'm sure, and honestly shadow meld does have an interesting opportunity to it when downtime is only 7 secs. may investigate another time.

    have fun, good luck.

  7. hi all,

after the last patch (prior to the halloween event) i found it difficult to log in to coh without hanging at the server screen and being completely stuck there. process explorer shows that coh is active, but running at 0% cpu, and i must close coh via process kill in task manager.

the nvidia driver used at the time was 257.21, an upgrade to 258.xx wouldn't allow me to log on any further than the server screen as well. a further upgrade to 260.89 also froze up at the server selection. including while in safe mode.

thinking there must be something wrong with the updater/coh .exe i reinstalled/patched with a new updater from 0 and still had problems, so i downgraded to 258, then back to 257.

now, i can log into the character selection, but am greeted with a completely corrupted image. the character name text is visible, the buttons to perform actions such as 'next' delete, etc are all present/visible/work and i can select a character and log in.

once logged in, i am still presented with a completely corrupt 2d digital collage, there are no 3d elements present. from here i enter the menu/options/graphics and manually set the graphics slider from quality to performance. the slider will hang a moment before suddenly presenting me with appropriate graphics and textures, then allowing me to slide the settings back up to quality where the game appears quite capable and happy to present on my video card with no issue (minor lag in the usual heavy areas such as invasions etc) including the ability to log out to character selection and be presented with an uncorrupted version of the selection screen.

the card does not appear to be running hot in any way. max 60 deg, fan at 50% in a very ventilated case.

no other program/game exhibits this behaviour.

typically running a dual view nvidia set up to allow for video to be presented on the alt screen. it should be noted that single monitor or multiple monitor set up has no effect.

standard hjthis/av/malware tests appear clear. hijackthis/searchanddestry/avast/malwarebytes are very well used on this system.

    any thoughts? suggestions?

    thanks for reading.

    So there!
i could get behind a 2 tier system where pre 25 or so all power picks are made @1/2 and slots are apportioned over the level ups to mitigate power boredom and allow for a minimum chain creation. then 25+ system returns to power/slot/power; power/slot/slot cycle as per usual. with the respec trial hitting about 24, and not exactly difficult anymore, it has some opportunity.
  9. 3 most important things in a zombie apoc (or any other disaster):

communication. seems obvious, but i can't tell you how many times people clam up when in the sh!+.

redundancies. just like the breakthrough above, redundancies and fallbacks are your saviours.

goal seeking (short and long). morale is important. short term goal seeking such as making it across a quad without being attacked, locating supplies, or simply treading water are critical to maintaining healthy mindsets.

it's been too long since one of these (types of things) for me, but then college was a longish time ago
  10. Jedi Nights - what happens on corusant stays on corusant, but we follow them around with a cameradroid and broadcast it too you! There's no deathsticks here, only death!

True Trooper - we take 12 contestants from across the galaxy, give them a blaster and armour, and throw them on a star destroyer headed for Tatooine all while watching them learn to be a clone. Who is the True Trooper? (promo includes blaster cam footage of flaming jawas and a burning moisture farm.) now syndicated!

Mos Eisley - With the coming of the Clone War, many eyes in imprisoned Planets turned hopefully, or desperately, toward the freedom of the Republic. Alderaan became the great embarkation point. But, not everybody could get to Alderaan directly, and so a tortuous, roundabout refugee trail sprang up - Corusant to Hoth... across the Medi Terra to O Ran... then by frieghter, or fighter, or escape pod across the galatic rim, to Mos Eisley on Tatooine. Here, the fortunate ones through money, or influence, or luck, might obtain visas and scurry to Alderaan; and from Alderaan, to the Republic. But the others wait in Mos Eisley... and wait... and wait... and wait.

  11. what this proves more than anything else.....

we need a video game based on building flow charts. maybe genealogy, feynman diagrams.....that'll get the blood pumping.
  12. this reminds me of a favourite power in a nameless game that occasionally turned the target into a teddy bear. especially devastating when given to an enemy and used on you, or used in pvp with hilarious (if very rare) results.

i'll have to look into picking up the booster pack.

    thanks for reminding me =)
  13. mentioned this in the vs jackass thread: i enjoyed red and had fun watching it. i found there to be alot of dry and understated humor about it that appealed to me. having read ellis' original comic, there was a great deal to flesh out but the basic premise remains the same, as well as a number of the comic panel shots and general feel.

i may get winged with this statement, but i had a few moments there where i was reminded of a cohen bros flick. not bad at all.
  14. hi all,

i took another stab at my claw/sr inherent stamina build and i hit within a number of the marks i'd hoped, however i'm always up for fresh eyes and input.

    1818 hp
    45.3/47.8/45.3
    316% regen
    .69 end use/3.7 recovery
    18.5% dam buff
187.5% global recharge incl hasten (+94% in follow up gives me 281.5% for a 3.12s rech, close, very close.)

the caveat: i'm not floating on a dark pool of funds so pvp io's are out for the forseeable future, everything else is pretty much available to me now.

thanks for any input in advance

He's been portrayed as super-observant and a world-wise conman, so the game she is trying to play is the game that he knows how to play better than her. He was foolish, IMO, to have basicly blurted out "Yeah, I know you ain't the real thing" in so many words.
I think that he has some hope of rescuing the real Olivia eventually, and is playing the Boyfriend role to get closer to learning her secrets. She can't just turn her face away from the other members of the team and talk to her fellow infiltrators over the phone without someone noticing eventually. She has a different 'look' when she's not trying to play nice girl and no one can fake for long.

Walter? I doubt that he knows.

Edit: Also, I think that Peter's loyalty is split. He knows that this isn't his home, but he has love for the real Olivia and some issues with Walter. And some issues about being the key to a universe-destroying mega-weapon, like not being sure if it will kill him in the process of destroying our universe or just spit him back into his home safely. (Fire shooting from your eyes is a pretty harsh side-effect, so I'm guessing that it isn't good for the user.)
the long con does sound like the likely direction peter is taking it. part of conning a con is actually playing the con itself in the open, especially on (relatively) home ground and with the knowledge they need you alive for the moment. fauxlivia can't exactly go back on a whim that we know, is otherwise tied to playing this for broyles and co unless she wants to be boxed and wired by a scientist who likes to conduct business while extremely high and much fonder of the original over the alternate. making her suspicious of peter may make her think she needs to move faster than otherwise planned, causing mistakes or not having pieces available in play. i think killing the sociobot was an example of pushing the plan, possibly giving peter a chance to peek through her underwear drawer for the reclaimed memory chip.

it does make me curious how they expect to get peter back to the alt universe though, unless the device was on this plane all along. converting olivia, then using her to open a portal seems like a longer shot than walternate would be willing to play and ensure his plan.

The perfect example of this is the idea of being able to fly. Now in movies and comics, most just take off into the sky without a care, but in reality how would you know if that power simply wouldn't just turn off while your a couple of hundred or even thousand feet in the air. I think most would go the Greatest American Hero route and keep the flying low until they were sure it was safe.
i see a great future for the costume designer able to fit a variety of modern life saving devices into the suit. such as an a.e.d., a parachute, airbags, gps, oxygen, and the like.

it's great to be able to fly. less so when the temp is around -15, the pressure hovers around 'what's my name again?', and your eyes still only see a few thousand feet (barring many other issues) with any sort of chance to see what you might be looking at, or dodging... missile, jet, missile, jet...missile...dammit.

when i first started this game, my first character was a elec/energy blaster. a few long since moved on ingame friends and i used to go to perez park and play impromptu par 3 golf games. typical start tees off from a roof using tp foe, hopefully you've made the green on top of the trees, and a shortish putt to the hole in the trees. the toughest part is adjusting the strike to propel them just far enough, but not too far.

also, tough to make a hole without killing them, but at level 9 or so they have a bit more goto.

in atlas, my favourite power is observation: spot the newb, spot them 1-2m inf and wish them a fun day.

Again, though, the whole concept of self-awareness may just be a human-centric conceit- a kind of "soul" for the scientific-minded that justifies our domination of the globe. We do, after all, consider this as the norm- something inherent in all human beings by default, pretty much regardless of developmental age, mental condition, (and political persuasion :P ) but we only grudgingly and with great reservation attribute it to other species. It's still debated in "highly-developed" minds of dolphins, elephants, and apes, despite considerable scientifically-controlled tests... and the less scientific but much more frequent observations suggesting self-awareness in pets is discarded as simple anthropomorphism by affectionate pet-owners.
i submit self awareness as a recursive entity terminating in narcissism.

this may or may not have the effect that was intended.
  21. is it wrong that i wondered if telford was considering whether the aliens had eaten recently and might be carnivorous?

did find it a bit odd that scott and greer made everybody well aware of the gate storage/construction area as sort of explained by rush, then were promptly blown off. maybe next episode.
