Quote:batman redshifts the sun, and vaccinates the population with, you guessed it, kyptonite.Ignoring the fact that Superman moving at or near the speed of light anywhere near the ground would kill everyone anywhere near his flight path, and kill Batman whether he had a way to kill Superman or not, Superman could reach any point on the Earth from any other point in less than seven hundredths of a second. Assuming Batman could react and actually do something meaningful in about a quarter of a second, Superman would need to be about seventy five thousand kilometers away. Significantly farther away than geosynchronous orbit, and about a quarter of the way to the moon.
Since when is the Earth in the DCU four times larger than Earth?
There's no way Batman would make a Superman fail safe that was contingent on him being able to out-react or outfight Superman. I'm sure he'd give it a shot, but the real failsafe would be something that would be triggered upon some sequence of events, something which would work even if Superman killed or incapacitated Batman. However, it would also need to correctly sit idle if Batman were killed or defeated by someone other than Superman. What that could possibly be, or have been as the case may be, I don't have a guess.
it all began with batman being defeated and sending you, er batman, a letter in the past....

Quote:i like that she annoys the hell out of guerrero, i always got the feeling he did have a soft spot somewhere. whether this develops into 'ames' the new dudeteam member, or 'ames' the object lesson in a later episode about why guerrero is all lonesome remains to be seen.I think they are deliberately playing up the "annoying overzealous sidekick wannabe" angle on Ames just so the character's transition into a full-rounded person is more obvious. Not sure if that's the right thing to do but it's a bit heavy-handed. She has yet to learn when the "look at me I'm a distraction!!" misdirection is needed and when it's not.
I liked the episode but something still isn't right, can't put my finger on it. Like the reveal about the husband at the end- was that needed? It kind of cheapened the redemption for Chance knowing that the prof was a blackmailer and was gonna ditch his wife and get away with millions...
with how the final ep last season concluded, followed by the short mad dash for laverne, followed by chance in tibet and all in about 15 min, it felt like they were trying a different track on the absolution path rather than k.w. from the s1final. we may still see what happened around that circumstance in a flashback ep for crappy boss closure but suggestions of cancellation may have messed the opportunity (actor contracts/schedules, etc) to use that in s2e1.
i also think the suggestion of redemption is stronger by not revealing that information, it would have simply 'justified' some of what chance had done. to paraphrase 'they must have done something' rather than suggest that no one he killed is unflawed, allows for degrees of freedom. -
Quote:i think this quote makes more sense if it's understood that a pass is 51%, or a 'D' in grade school vernacular.
The only real flaw then is that it takes place in the Star Gate Universe. If this was a stand alone show, with none of the trappings of Star Gate. If the "Star Gate" in the hold was just some other type of transporter, and the show was just about the wrong people being on an unknown ship trying to figure out how to make it run, while trying to survive in a far flung galaxy, I think more people would be willing to give it a pass.
you're right in that the elements are there, but just like your favourite recipe, it takes more than dumping the parts into a bowl. there's a variety of prep, timing, and basic skill involved in a preparing even the simplest of things, not to mention the quality of ingredients being used.
in the end (or at least up to now) i see sgu as a failed cookie recipe, that was then left in the oven too long, and presented to guests anyway as slightly charred and dry while being told you really just need to eat them with milk.
milk comes next season.

so, we've hit a point where a regular guy in a nylon costume with his underwear on the outside can 'legitimately' be called a 'superhero'? really?
maybe a specialhero...... or a blockhero, streethero?
i'm just waiting for the crossdesser superhero 'stiletto' that uses bommerang high heels like the fishthower from the muppets..... -
i like you optimism lothic, but after seeing the trailer i get a more 'year one' vibe rather than a blackadder, or princess bride...
-
scy, forbin; i would suggest that you're both right, in slightly different ways, that come together in an especially 'meh' way around sgu.
skyfii is responsible for scheduling, and approving (within parameters) what is being written about to translate to production. they are after all not financed by the writers, or underpants gnomes.
the writers are working within the parameters set out by icyfoo that dictate 'REALITY' and 'GRITTINESSITY' likely in 20 point font and bolded across every draft. along with notes like 'it's turtles all the way down' or 'incorporate cylons, but don't call them that'.
neither complement the other.
honestly, i would like to see the show suceed. if i could send a draft that would address a variety of issues i would, but unsolicited drafts tend to make about as far as the circular file, or in rare cases the desktop and whiteout on the name of the submitter. -
Quote:i've played a rad/kin corr (Cherry Nobyl) for a very long time as one of my mains.I'm looking at and liking a build I have for a kinetics/archery defender (or corruptor). I played the defender version up to level 12 and learned very quickly that I really do not enjoy maintaining speed boost on my teamates. Frankly, I mainly play scrappers and damage dealers, and the idea of rebuffing 7 players every 2 minutes all night long is not fun for me. I'm aware that this may just mean kinetics isn't the set for me, but I'm wondering if any of you expirienced kineticists find that not having speed boost, or not keeping it up 100% of the time is heavily frowned upon.
Also, as an alternative, if there's a bind/macro I can use to quickly cycle through my teamates by tapping a button 7 times in a row, that'd probably help me enjoy the toon a lot more.
Any suggestion or advice?
at first, it tended to bother me that people wanted sb all the time, except those that don't and tend to be very vocal about it, and add to this that i don't like being a buffbot.
my solution? ignore chat, focus on the goal (completion of mission with fewest deaths possible, w/o taking responsibility for their actions) and sb when it works for you. if endurance is really an issue along the way, then transference is a reasonable answer.
as mentioned above, fulcrum shift is an important (more important i'd suggest) boost than speed boost itself. if recharge is important to up the availability of high damaging powers (for the most part) then fulcrum is the antithesis of that path by leveraging the damage forward, obiviating the need for sb outside of travel/endurance considerations.

Quote:Only a masochist would join the KB super team with a melee AT anyway.
Quote:With my melee toons I probably wouldnt have too much of a prob with it. As long as peeps understood that KB, w/o walls around, effects melee utility a lot.
That said, I would make use of walls and any other object to controll the distance of the KB, it is great mitigation and controll if used correctly. I'd also try to specialize in "rag-dolling" enemies through fences, closed doors, forcing heads through walls and stone and watching bodies writhe around... that's just good fun there.
imho, kb is the best secondary effect mitigator out there, despite it's hypothetical unpredicability.

I don't mind the balance of good vs. evil or where good doesn't win, etc...I'm a grownup and I know how the world works. But what I can't reconcile to is that every single story I encounter lately seems to be of this deeply flawed, '50 foot tall letter' sort of characters.
The friends I spoke of before cite True Blood as one of their favorite shows. And it's not for the supernatural; it's apparently for the gratuitious T&A and as one of them put it 'seeing what trauma they put the next character through next'.
................
a very nearly exact description of the 'car wreck character' and rubbernecking the accident on the way by. if rubberneckers were a marketable marketspace then perhaps we'll be likely to see far worse accidents and move up to train wreck characters and plots.
Quote:...........
Know what I hear when I see stuff like that?
"Look at us, look at us! Look how gritty and shocking we are! Hold on, there'll be cussin' next!"
It's like in the 90's when they were cutting off Aquaman's hand and smearing shadows all over Spiderman's face in a desperate attempt to be taken seriously.
it never came across well. the most blatant example i personally recall was a superman/boy show (that escapes me; maybe the one with hatcher?) where superwhatever realizes the terrorists are about to blow up the space shuttle... his statement 'oh fu@&, the shuttle!'
seriousness didn't even cast a shadow.
Quote:Agreed
It also makes me think of the soap operas that people... used to... poke fun of so regularly.
Just from my point of view, I find it somewhat funny (in that sad sort of way) that somehow, a large portion of Sci-Fi fans have become the equivalent of card carrying Soap Opera lovers. -
to use a crappy analogy, current tv is like the attack of rob liefield superpositioned anatomy and pocketry in his 'art' http://progressiveboink.com/archive/robliefeld.html as compared to a jim lee, or personal favourite since the mid 80's, art adams.
it essentially consists of an ever widening array of car wreck characters in brutally unbelievable or unrecognizable situations for most people, and not in a fastasy 'gee, i'd really like to do that sometime' kind of way.
breaking bad, dexter, sgu, weeds are just a few series examples of this sort of entertainment. in order, meth lab, serial killer, desert island minus ginger/maryann/reasontolive, and spiralling drug dealer and then some.
i briefly touched on this in the south park heroes thread, but current trending would suggest that the next big tv show would be one where every character is the biggest assh0l3 you've ever come in contact with and dies, every single episode, for several seasons. we'll call it voodoo television where people can work the television show the same way they might work a heavy bag, or a baseball bat while visualizing [relevant human target you don't agree with] all in some sort of circumstance that let's them come back such as an alternate universe paradigm allowing for a greater variety of a$$h0lery. -
number stations; fauxlivia gets called out by someone who should know better; walter re enters kindergarten and remembers to not share with both 5 year olds, and peter; i totally forgot about the observers and now we have anciants too....etc
that last one kinda throws me a bit, although it does confirm a thought about walternate not wanting to base his universes' survival on an uncooperative olivia by the 'machine' being in earth a.
question on which would be easier to believe absent stargate command coexisting with fringe division:
a race of humans eons before humans (again) that has never been heard of before until now with a handy prepacked pamphlette complete with birthdays who set a genetic alarm clock several million years in the future to create number stations and built an engine of antireality ?
or, that a consequence of a particular method of unviverse crossing may have time distortion effects and this whole thing has been set up by walternate? -

edited to include missing link -
i'd post a video example of a super powered gun wielder from an anime called 'darker than black' [2], unfortunately i can't seem to find any short and clear enough to characterize the idea well.
essentially, the character has an internal 'well' providing a large browning .50 snipe rifle. not all that far off from the 'where did i put that [take it from]' when shouldering the assault rifle, etc.

Quote:good guess and probably right. i'm really liking the diversity. i wonder if such powers are archtype specific, or, if in the hands of a scrapper or brute such a thing should be recharging every other incarnate slot.my guess is that because of its chain effect it can hit no more than 2 targets at once (i.e. when it jumps from one baddie to another) and will continue to chain for up to 15 targets.
also........ AWESOME!! -
Quote:Any thoughts on what Rush said Destiny's mission is? The main thing I would ask is how far away they are from actually completeling that mission considering how large the universe is.
there's way too much missing information. was destiny shot out in a random direction or a specific one? was a message decoded or only inferred? couldn't an ascended ancient that likes meddling in the affairs of humans just show up and say 'by the way, we were wrong. they are us, and we are them. good luck though.'
if the current logic trend remains consistent, then approximately 3 seasons longer than they have.

description: ...15 targets
detailed info: max 2 targets....
looks really interesting, probably just a text bug, but which one? -
gin dead already? and i guess this kills both parties? way to give the characters a reason to live on to fulfill that all important mission...
on the flipside, sew her back together and plug her into chloe for an hour or two...
i think my patience with this show has officially ended. -

still affected by diminishing returns meaning likely use by many players (already io'd) to be in the .16667-.6667 mark of value rather than the total 'marketed' value, and, applied to base values with caps retained. the only way i see this being interesting is the level shift applied, that would boost you through the 50 cap, into a 51 cap of higher values.
using the metric suggested for conversions we have: common > x2> uncommon> x2> rare> x2> ultra rare (or 8 common, give or take a tweak and more correct information).
for something expected to take many moons to fulfill, this is mildly underwhelming barring the unknown.
/too early for doom metering. -

If anyone is interested, the descriptions and titles for the next 4 episodes can be found here. Not sure how I feel about a couple of the things that going to happen.
space herpes? if, if, the writers somehow managed to pull a sgu/ice pirates crossover this series will become my favourite for as long as i live

i was called into my son's school a while ago over an 'incident' in class that ultimately turned out to have been entirely untrue. the reason i was called down though was not due to the incident, it had been resolved reasonably quickly.
when confronted in a harsh way by the teacher he apparently quite calmly looked the teacher over and proclaimed:
'i don't speak jackass'.

south park has consistently amazed me these past few years, the level of satire puts gullivers travels on the beach.
it also really nailed something that might be interesting in these times of disaster television and car wreck characters. combine the concepts of alt universe, carwrecters, and everyone must be dead by the end of the episode. every single time. until the next episode in an alternate universe where we can watch them all die again and be satisfied we are not them, or are we?

are either of you running a 'theme' or changed the default xp 'look' via window blinds/stardock/alienware-guise software?
i've recently had a very similar problem to the o.p., changing back to the default/out of stardock & co fixed this for me. strangely, this only became a problem very recently after running them both for 5 years. not so strangely, i'd completely forgotten just how much i want to puke looking at the freshly revealed happy go lucky colour scheme.
