Another quick question. If i wanted to skip acrobatics, and just slot kb io's, does the rule of 5 apply to those? As in can I slot 5 steadfast kb io's, and a couple karma kb io's?
-
Quote:Thanks Mac. Thats a bummer, I just looked at mid's and saw what you were saying about KB Resistance. 40-45 kb is a ton. Guess I will head back to the drawing board and see what I can do.Don't need Medicine pool. Energize should cover you, if not there's always greens. Get Power Surge, you'll want Power Sink, and you'll want Taunt. Don't really need Footstomp. You'll also want Combat Jumping, Super Jumping, Acrobatics, unless you plan on always staying on the ground, even in which case you'll want to buy some -KB IOs. Elec doesn't have knockback resistance to complement its knockback protection like most other melee sets, so you'll get knocked around a bit unless you build into the 40-45 range. You might even be able to get away without taking Fitness, though I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

Im in my 40's now and trying to figure out power picks for pvp tank.
So many choices, I just dont know what I can lose in the build. Do I need Powersink? Footstomp (for pvp). Wouldnt be so bad if I didnt have to fit in Aid Self. Id love to fit in stealth, but eh. Also, seems like I would want Taunt in there to combat ranged toons. Thanks in advance for your help. Nevermind the order at which i picked the powers, I just threw something together to get advice. Ive got around 1.6 billion to spend, Dont spend it all!

Quote:Thanks for the link, that site if pretty funny. I'm not sure why I find him funny, but I do.that guy is hilarious, have you seen http://www.laughyourdickoff.com ?
of those builds you listed i think ma/regen/body is probably the easiest with the mezz, mog, tons of perception, and phase, then the elec/ss tank but i havent actually seen any of those yet so its all conjecture.
So far it seems Ma/regen sounds fun, not sure if id go body instead of weapon though. Not sure how important webnade can be. Elec/ss sounds fun, but so much lower in hp (DP) and lower in s/l resist. Guess I have to decide how important major energy resist, energy drain resist, and slow resist can be compared a major hp buff.
No one has chimed in on the controller, so im assuming there arent so hot for zone? -

Quote:Lol Gamete thanks for the catch there. I was listening to Aziz Ansari on youtube, and I guess I don't multitask wellI think 1.4mil is chump change for everyone nowadays lol. I think you meant to type billion? Not sure :P
Thanks again for pointing that out.
I fixed it, and yea I meant Billion. -
I took a break from Cox around i12-i13 to play another game. I've been back playing cox for about a month now. I made a elec/shield scrapper and have saved up around 1.4 Billion + inf so far that I want to use to make a nice pvp toon. I know 1.4 Billion is chump change for most peeps, and i'm not bragging by stating I have this much. I spend an hour or so a day farming after work before the fiance gets home (she resists placate, which don't matter, heroes dont get it
).
Anyway I have a list of toons I'm considering, but I'm totally up for any other additions/considerations. I've been asking questions on the forums about these builds so far, so I have a slight idea whats going on, but not much
This will be for RV open zone pvp. I might throw in some lolfightclubbing once in a while, but this will be 90% open zone stuff. And I know what I pick in the end will probably be "what I enjoy most to play". I enjoy winningBut I'll try multiple builds till I find something that I mesh well with.
The builds:
Fire/Regen/Weapon - All out dmg, but will the lack of mezz hurt this guy? At least I'll have webnade to add in catching peeps.
Martial Arts/Regen/Weapon - Trade some dmg for secondary effects. Has stuns, but does anyone have any real experience with this? Does the stun make up for picking this over Fire/ ? Seems now you stun someone and immediately follow up with an attack so it will bypass their shields (that the stun temporarily disabled). Please correct me if i'm wrong.
Invul/SS/Earth Tank - I hear this is popular now. I worry that a tank doesnt get many solo kills in pvp. I guess it comes down to slotting, having pvp io's (which Ive yet to see, since I havent pvp'ed), and the player.
Elec/SS/Earth Tank - Same worries about solo kills. But at least I'll resist slows and end drains a bit (I know invul resists end drains a tad), and will have less End problems in general. I know Elec gets Energize now (+regen and heal), but does that make up for the lack of Dull pain?
Earth/TA or Earth/Therm Controller - I hear this is a nice disrupt toon (earth/TA). I know its also a squishy, so maybe this would be a better duo toon. Can either get kills solo? I know TA's Glue Arrow is hated, and I know that Therm is known to be hated for HE.
Mind/TA or Mind/Therm Controller - Mind seems to do more single target dmg than earth. Then again Earth/ can pick up Stone Mastery I think its called, and get seismic smash. Not sure if that equals out though.
I'll be rolling this new toon up by Halloween, so i'm sure by then I will have amassed a couple hundred more mill to add to the budget.
Thanks for your time for anyone reading this, and more so to anyone who is kind enough to respond. -
Kindly explain he was wrong by saying Lol? Sounds sarcastic, and not really an explanation. Unless, lol might means lots of lightning, and you are advising him to use a surge protector. Nice looking out (nlo)!

Quote:So Trick Arrow? I've been reading today how regens hate HE from Thermal. Then again ill be in RV alot, so only thing ill see there is maybe some /wp and some regen (stalkers).go trick arrow you can keep stalkers outta hide for a good long while with acid arrow and you can ground people indeffinatly. Trick arrow is just a great disruption set period
Still trying to decide though, ice and earth still look kinda even, but maybe someone can chime in on what they hate to go up against controller-wise in pvp?
Thanks again for the feedback. -
Making a new controller for pvp, and I've never done ice, earth or trick arrow, thermal.
For zone pvp and maybe some 1 on 1 duels, what do you guys think would be a better combo?
I know ice has the -recharge and Arctic Air, and earth has tons of -def. Thermal with its end drainage, and trick arrow with ok debuffs and Glue Arrow.
I'm having a hard time deciding, since they all seem like they would do decently.
Thanks. -
Quote:Thanks for the reply. Yea I have a dm/shield scrapper, but all this talk makes me wanna make a elec/shield.The scrapper would kill much faster in any situation where the tanker's extra survivability didn't help.
Maybe after I make a decision on what pvp scrapper ill make, then ill make an elec shield. As if I needed more alts -
Dumb question. But I have a Shield/Fire/Fire Tank. Would a fire/shield/blaze or elc/shield scrapper kill much faster than him, like +3/8 man?
Not trying to threadjack, just curious if I should just reroll a shield scrapper since they might kill quicker for farming, and I havent got accolades or anything really on my tanker yet. -
I went into RV last night on one of my brutes, just to see what scrappers were there, to compare.
I saw a couple bs/regens, and 1 dm/regen. I noticed the dm wasnt really getting any kills. I guess this equates to nobody sits around long enough in zone pvp unless lolfightclub is goin on. I did see a ma/regen that did ok. EC did some nice big crits, but the kb from crane kick didnt seem to do much to peeps. Also the minor disorients in MA didnt seem to make anything over the top, but I was only there an hour.
Saw no fire/regens. No hurries, still deciding. While I decide, been farming on my Shield/Fire tank to get up some cash flow to set out whatever I do make.
Still have to decide. Never had such a hard decision. Probably because i hate rolling new toons, deleting them and rerolling something. But not like thats bad, whatever works I suppose. -
Quote:Thank you for the descriptive post. I guess I'll rule out MA, and go for either FM or DM. Very tough choice! For Fite Club DM/Regen is king, for actual moving around in a zone. Fire/Regen.
I have both. DM hits like a truck, shadow maul is on par with greater fire sword. (If all the DoT's hit GFS ends up a little ahead) For follow up attacks MG/SL they both end up ahead of Fire's Cremate/Incinerate.
Really the big thing is... Fire has its consistent Build up that you can reliably slot for To Hit, where DM has a potentially more powerful one that while it may last for 30 seconds has several downfalls:
Requires a to hit check.
Requires acc/recharge/to hit slotting in the 90% range so it becomes more difficult to slot it out where most build ups you throw in Gaussian's or Adjusted targeting and call it a day.
While its buff is more front loaded now (50% damage 10% to hit buff for the first, 10% damage 2% to hit for every other foe) It needs some fuel to bring it up to par with standard build up.
Like I said, if you are standing around not moving that 30 seconds of 50% damage is going to be better than 10 seconds of 100%, but if you are actively chasing targets who are going to try and kite you, I'd definitely go fire.
The heal in siphon life really adds up in a 1 v 1 situation, again where stuff isn't moving that much. In zone play you'll be relying much more on your Regen powers though.
I enjoy zone pvp very much, but once in a while a buddy may challenge me to the arena to test out his build, at which the dm/regen would probably do better.
Choices Choices. Well I'll still try to decide between those two, then i'll come up with a character idea/costume.
Thanks again for all the posts. Most def keeping me thinking on my toes about this. -
Quote:I tend to enjoy Zone PvP more often, so I'd say mostly RV type of action. And the question about mostly melee, I'd say a mix, since anything can enter the zone. Not sure what type of ranged options id get from the Epics.Zone or Arena PvP? (Is your opponent likely to let you stay at least in near melee range)
And to the previous post. Never considered Dm/Regen. I'd be afraid I would have enough burst dmg to even finish off peeps with low health that I catch. But then again maybe Shadow Maul or Nem Staff can help. -
Decided on making a /regen for pvp (yea yet another regen for pvp, i know).
I have never played fire, but see its dmg is fairly nice, just no secondary effects unless you count dot.
Between FM, and MA, are they all fairly comparable? I guess would I be gimping myself by picking MA ? I see it has some disorients and EC seems fairly decent.
I would like great burst dmg, and both seem to do it. Any opinions? -
Quote:I went /em and am having fun with it so far.Go EM and great choice on the TV!
Samsung=/EM of Televisions!
Oh and when my fiance saw what I payed for the Samsung recently (it was led too), its like she got hit with Energy Transfer, pre activation nerf. Aka she never saw that high of a price coming. -
Quote:The thread title was not "Psy/em or Psy/dev for pvp? Oh and your opinion about Freedom pvp?"well playing on freedumb you can have a crappy, less respectable over crouded pvp experience due to freedumbs large amount of crappy players(not to say all are but the bad out wieght the good) see: brewha
I'm aware this is a public forum, but it seems common sense to try to address what the OP is asking for, as in the title of the thread.
You felt as if Freedom pvp upsets you so much, that you had to comment. Or, You wanted me to know that it doesnt matter what blaster I decide on, as the pvp in Freedom is subpar?
Great public service announcement. I currently have a 46 inch Samsung tv. Please reply in this thread in the future if there are any recalls or issues I will have.

Quote:Thank you both for your responses. Based on them both, I just built a psy/em on freedom. Hit lvl 4, this will take a while. But with power customization, It seems all together like it should be a fun toon.i PvP with a psi/dev. I only ended up taking 4 powers from the set, nade, trops CD and targeting drone. everything else is fairly useless in RV. trops only use is that it de-hides stalkers. To be honest it really doesnt do bad but the lack of damage from the secondary and more importantly the lack of build up really shows. If for no other reason i would say /em for build up, TF, and boost range. they complement psi/ in RV very well.
Thanks again! -
Havent pvp'ed in months and have never tried out Psy but hear it does well in pvp.
So, Between these 2 combo's what would be best. Or Im assuming they both have tradeoffs and advantages.
/em for the KB since powerboost apparently does do much except help aidself (if you take it). And of course, Total Focus. But not sure if the long animation is bad
And /dev for perception (with perception io), stealth (stack it with the stealth io), and laying bombs and caltrops, or spamming webnade. Wasnt sure if the lack of a second build up would hurt me in the long run.
This will be for action in RV.
Edit: Well after some checking out on Mid's, I noticed that maybe /mm shouldnt be counted out either. Didnt realize it had a 16mag or so kb. Not sure if Drain psyche is decent in pvp, or if psychic shockwave is any good on a blaster. -
Dumb question, but of your shield/fire and your shield/ice which do you enjoy more. Im assuming the shield/fire pulls ahead in the aoe'age dept.
-
Quote:Thanks for the reply. I'm curious about your Fire/SS. Do you currently have alot of io's for recharge on that build for healing flames? How high can you handle comfortably without sweating too much ie. +2/+8's ?Fire/SS/Pyre or Shield/SS/Pyre both make great farming builds. I run my Fire/SS all the time and have a blast.
Shield/Elec may work well too. Mine is too low to really tell, but in the right situation it can tear groups of minions apart.
I guess I should of stated in the original post that I'm looking for something that doesnt require too much inf investment. I know sometimes investing can bring back greater returns, but I hate the idea of spending a ton on a farmer so i can spend a ton on something elseI guess its a never-ending circle either way.
Thanks again! -
Well Ive been on Freedom for a couple months now, and most of my farmers are on Guardian.
I figured I'd save some cash and not do another transfer and just take up this opportunity to roll up another toon to feed my altitis. For redside I already have a couple farmers. SS/Wp brute io'ed to the gills, and a dm/shield for a nice mix of single target and aoe's.
So, for doing +0/+8's, What would you guys recommend as killing the fastest? I'd love the ability to do +4/+8's for pl'in friends if they ever come back to the game. I have tossed the idea around about a Spines/wp scrapper, so if you know of another scrapper combo, I'd even consider that.
First I thought of Ice/Fire. Nice dmg aura, good aoe's from fire, decent end management, decent survivability.
Shield/fire seemed it would be decent also. SC, Good aoe's still, still survivable, but would have to keep an eye on the end bar.
Shield/elec and Shield/Ice seemed to be interesting too, but i havent played /Elec or /Ice. I've read that AAO helps ice's low dmg and single target attacks and /ice still seems to have an aoe or 2, but not sure if they get the job done.
/Elec seems to have tons o'aoe's, but what If i decide to add boss's to the map, for pool C & D drop chances.
I havent even considered taking Epic PP into consideration for these builds, so I'm all up for suggestions.
