Sorry. Didn't mean to bring down the thread, or anybody's enthusiasm. Just a button topic for me.
I can understand this, but on the other hand this is a bit like saying, "Mozart is dead, so nobody should ever play his music." Most artists would be overjoyed if they could create a work that is so beloved that it lives on past the artist's death.
  4. If you run past some enemies, they will take a shot at you. If you keep running and don't attack them back, they will lose interest pretty quickly.
  5. I have just two words for this: Hoo and Ray!

Hooray! A new Muppets movie! Huzzah!

    S.
I agree mostly with this, except the "past successes" part. Yes, "The Three Stooges" was successful and has become ingrained in American pop-culture. However, the actors were shafted royally and made very, very little money from their work. They were grossly underpaid, even after their films became popular, and they received zero residuals from their work being played later on TV. This was actually quite common up into the 1970s; the actors on Gilligan's Island saw very little money from the decades that the show was in syndication, for example. So while the quality wasn't all that great, I don't begrudge the Stooges trying to make at least a little bit of scratch later in life, from the characters they made so popular.
  7. Anon did some DoS attacks on Sony, that were in retaliation for the crackdown on the creators of a PS3 jailbreak. Right after that Sony announced the big PSN hack, and so people have conflated the 2 events. But I don't think Anon did the big PSN hack, or this one. They typically do DoS attacks and defacing, not outright theft. Although there is of course a first time for anything.
  8. I also think that a new player should start with a Blaster. That's what I did (he became my first 50), and I learned a LOT about aggro management, pulling, retreating and other strategery that has helped immensely on every character I've had since.

If/when you start a melee character - Brute, Scrapper, Stalker or Tanker - DO NOT skip the Mez/Status Protection power for the defensive powerset. I did this on my first melee character, a Broadsword Regeneration scrapper. I was so used to being mezzed (i.e., held, disoriented, knocked back, slept, immobilized) on my blaster that I thought it was normal. I was such a newb that when I read the description of the Regeneration mez/status protection power (Integration) I didn't think it sounded all that useful. Finally a friend with more experience clued me in. The power will say something like this (taken from Unyielding in the Invulnerability powerset): "When you toggle on this power, you become Unyielding. You are resistant to all damage except Psionics, as well as Knockback, Slow, Sleep, Hold, Immobilize, and Disorient effects."
  9. That looks terrible.

    Fixed that for more accuracy.

I wish nothing but utter failure and humiliation on this movie.
  11. I did the waiting at the train exit thing, only I took it a step further. I thought that it was a "watched pot never boils" thing, and for some reason running out of the train station then back in the same door somehow "made" the train come. It took me about a month or so before I realized that no, I was not running out, around then back in the same door. I was actually running out the exit door, then in the entrance where I could actually catch the train. All that time I thought I was running out then back in the same door. But at least I never asked in Broadcast why the train wasn't running.
  12. My favorite scene/lines from this episode (paraphrased):

(After Bronn best the Eyrie knight in the contest of champions)

Lysa Arryn: You fight without honor!
Bronn (gesturing at the open Moon Door): He did.

Also, when Viserys crashed the party and threatened Daenerys, he said, "They can't shed blood in their holy city," ("they" being the Dothraki). I thought to myself, "Fool, there are multitudes of ways to kill someone without shedding blood." And sure enough, none of Viserys' blood was shed.
  13. Oh come on! We're being *realistic* here!
  14. The great sword is only really needed against an opponent who also has a sword.

Faced with large numbers of essentially unarmed opponents - Z - you really want to go with a lighter weapon if forced into melee. The great sword is cool and all, but it's practically useless in close quarters (did you see how far back that guy in the video was pulling for each swing of the sword?), and I don't care how big and/or fit you are, swinging that monstrosity around for 3 or 4 minutes will leave you with numb pieces of wood for arms. The same will happen with a lighter sword as well, but you can fight for a longer period with a lighter weapon. I agree with others above that you want to avoid close combat with Z as much as possible, but when forced into it, honestly your absolute best bet IMHO is actually something smaller, like a hatchet or one-handed hammer, a stiletto or dagger (poke through the skull or eye socket), short sword, baseball bat, etc. With the hammer or hatchet you could actually wield one in each hand.
  15. I have invented the ultimate in Zompocalypse Survival Gear. It provides transportation, doesn't need fuel (except for the chainsaws and flamethrower of course), and it's quite stylish! I present to you...

Read "World War Z" for a pretty accurate (IMHO) depiction of the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of fire and/or explosives on a mass of zombies.

I agree. A chainsaw would be spewing gory, bloody, *infectious* gobbets of zombie all over the user. One scratch and in a bit you're a chainsaw-wielding zombie. >.> On second thought...

There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.
Remember, knowing is half the battle. The other half is blowing zombies' heads off.
  19. The last show I tried to watch on network TV was Flash Forward. It did the same thing as The Event the OP mentioned...took a 3-month hiatus in the middle of the season. When it came back, I didn't hear about it until three episodes had aired. At that point, I just gave up and didn't bother trying to catch any of the missed episodes.

Since then, I've seen some shows that I might like (The Cape, No Ordinary Family, The Event), but I didn't even bother watching them. I just knew that they were going to pull the same old crap, so why invest my time if the network is just going to yank my chain with inconsistent episode quality, spotty air times, moving schedules and huge breaks in the middle of seasons? The answer is, I won't invest my time. It's a big world, and I have other interests than being disappointed - yet again - by a TV show.

  21. I'm currently running a pencil and paper superhero game, and the recently finished scenario had a villain that I wasn't sure how the heroes would react to him. The villain tried (and succeeded) to take over the world with mind control - in game effects, everyone who fell under the villain's mind control became an Extreme Fanatic for the villain. An Extreme Fanatic will do *anything* the object of fanaticism asks...*anything*. The PCs were not mind-controlled, thanks to a healthy dose of Plotdevicium. However, the mind-control came on pretty quickly, the heroes weren't prepared and had to retreat to plan their next move. While they were planning, they were watching the villain on TV, making proclamations to the world. Among the things the villain was ordering his billions of minions to do were: feed the hungry, redistribute wealth to eliminate poverty, immediately cease all armed hostilities, don't steal from each other, don't harm each other, protect/restore the environment where possible, etc.

Here's the part that made me proud of my GM skills: after hearing the villain's proclamations, the PCs had an hour-long discussion/argument about whether they should actually try to stop the villain's plans. The heroes thought that a lot of what the villain was demanding was reasonable, and even good. But on the other hand, there's that whole free-will thing. But what good is free will if you're starving, or the world is destroyed in a nuclear war?

It wasn't until the heroes discovered that the villain planned to enslave and/or kill 1 billion to 2 billion people to further his designs that the heroes were fully on-board with stopping the villain. When the heroes finally reached the confrontation with the villain, he berated them for misusing their great powers in petty street brawls and the enforcement of "law" and "order". In the villains eyes, the heroes were the true villains because they *didn't* try to take over the world and "protect the human race from itself". The 1 billion to 2 billion casualties were regrettable but necessary. Some of the heroes actually wanted to try to talk the villain out of killing all those people, but the rest (mind-controlling the entire world's population, ruling as supreme king/emperor, etc.) was acceptable.

The players seriously thought about joining with the villain, and almost did. IMHO, that's one of the best villains I've ever done as a GM.

Gasp! You mean there was a super-secret eugenics program in the late 1960s, and its sole purpose was to produce Peter Dinklage so he could star in an HBO series based on a book that wasn't written until 1996? How diabolical! But it explains so much!*

Seriously, I'll make it a point to watch The Station Agent soon. Thanks to you and mousedroid for the recommendation.
