  1. Casual...I wouldn't be upset if it was against the rules. I did look and didn't see it. Although, I am not asking for anyone to say a specific name, more I am asking for a website with reviews or something.
  2. Hello--

As the title says, I have my 72 vet badge and have played since i3, with a break around the time CoV went live. I have no plans to leave, so I want to make that clear.

The only other MMORPG I have played is a 2-3 month stint on Anarchy Online, which was my introduction. Being a comic book nerd and bored one day, I bought CoH on a whim and loved it from day 1.

My question is (and I hope this is appropriate here--I didn't see a rule against it in the rules), where does one find information about other MMORPGs? How would I know which fit me and which do not? Again, I don't have plans to leave, but SOMETIME this game may go away and I am not "in the know" enough to know where people get their information.

    Thanks for any help.

I don't keep up with the boards the way that other people do, so perhaps you do not either. I was happily informed a few weeks ago that Burn is good again, in that the fear component was removed.
  4. I know others have suggested it, but I would like a vet reward to be a character server transfer. I know it will never happen, but that would be ideal for me.

His main reason: Wormhole, which he felt was ridiculously powerful
He might have been a really cool and powerful toon, but to think nothing would match that seems like a huge overstatement.
  6. I really like Gravity. I am surprised by the hate it has gotten lately.

I do not use Dimensional Shift (or have it) and Propel needs shorter animation for sure, but overall I still like the set. I don't think Wormhole is complicated--sorry I just don't see it.

I think a few minor tweaks could help this set, but I don't see the set as "broken."

I guess the way that I see it is that this is a loyalty perk that is not necessary. It's a perk that makes things more convenient, but we have done fine without it so far. We have paid for 7 years and every three months get another perk. So, as I said, I like it.
  8. I certainly won't be unhappy if others gain it through payment or something, but I actually like it being something hard to attain. I think CoX has made things too easy to get (like the Vanguard loyalty pack, the Epic ATs unlocked at 20, and items like that). I actually like seeing some rare things in the game that take time to get.

I like that purple drops are pretty rare. I wish they hadn't even upped the rate at all. I LOVED that they were super rare and special, but I digress.
  9. Without trying to sound argumentative, how much I like a TF depends on my team. It depends on how well they work together, mostly. Secondly, ATs on my TF sometimes can change it a lot.

For example, I did a Cavern Trial the other day and my toon happened to have invis and tp so it took us less than 10 minutes. That is a different experience than doing it without these tools.

I love Numina, but it can get really irritating if people don't cooperate or communicate on the hunts.

Generally speaking, though, I like the shorter TFs more. I enjoy Katie Hannon (all incarnations), Hess, new Posi, speed ITF--that kind of thing.

I did a Dr. Q when I first started and was curious so I did one again about a month ago and I hated every second. Of course I knew it would be long, but the xp was HORRIBLE! I would possibly do it more (possibly!) if the xp was good.
  10. I had a respec issue, as well. I wasn't able to unlock my epic pool until lvl 44. I am not sure if that means I lost a power in there somewhere, or it really wasn't open until 44. I just know that I had 3 choices left when I was finally able to open the pool instead of 4. Where the power was lost, I am not sure.
  11. I will try that. It's either that or respeccing out of it.
  12. I have seen people rave about this power, but it hasn't seemed to help my ice/troller at all. I am lvl 48 and the only thing Arctic Air seems to do is drain my endurance. I don't see a noticeable slow and I have never seen anything confused. I am slotted with end. reduction and slow.

    Is it just me? Help?

What server is this? I am not much of a role player, but would love to see the carrots.
  14. Sorry I am slow. So does it actually end on the 30th or 31st?

"The old fashioned way" still includes TFs.

I am one of those that haven't really enjoyed Praetoria (mostly because I can't seem to find a team). I, too, wish for the lvling that comes with Posi and Synapse.
  16. OH! Mental. Yeah, give me 20 minutes, and I can figure out anything.

I was sick of doing that "Fire Blaster Shimmy" trying to get away from whatever was targetting me, that always seemed out of the tanks' taunt range. I died a lot, which is boring, and the powers were just... blah. That toon has now been sitting at lvl 45 for so long that... well, it still has base salvage on it. I finally puzzled it out and realized that /MM doesn't do anything to augment fire primary - it's just sort of more of the same thing. It doesn't mitigate (though I did get some good jokes off about WoC, saying I'd been caught in a horrible accident at a bubble gum factory). These are the two things I want from a secondary for a really powerful primary like fire/ - I want the secondary to make fire/ more survivable, and, if possible, to make the fire blasts work even better.

Some time later, I wanted to try fire/ again, checked the secondaries once more, and came up with /devices. Surprise, surprise, It is AWESOME. The sheer joy of Caltrops + RoF is a thing of beauty which cannot be described in mere words! I have a fire/dark corr., but this is even better, because the fire damage is so much better on a blaster.

I took the Taser, which is helpful for anything that isn't effected by slows, like council wolves. Also took the Cloak and the Targeting Drone, though am not certain if they are still needed at 50. However, they are both toggles, which means I set them and leave them alone, and they do their things while I do mine.

Have tried most of the other powers in the set during various respecs, but have ended up dropping them all as being far too fiddly for my playstyle. I can, and have seen, the benefit of using the bombs, but I just can't stand the fiddly. Smoke? Well, it works really well on Night Widows, but never did notice it do anything particularly for me, even fully slotted. Also, see: fiddly.

Thus I have all of 4 powers (plus the web you have to take) all of which augment fire/ while giving me much, MUCH more survivability. This allowed me to take everything in the primary - something I have can only rarely achieve on other toons, and all the power pool selections I really wanted. Unheard of!

I hear your complaints about the set, I really do. I would not take it or recommend it for something like Psi or Sonic, which have their own mitigation. For those, I'd likely suggest a high damage secondary. Fire/ doesn't need a high damage secondary, it just needs a few little things that make it function better and help you survive. Devices has those things.
Sorry, I got lost in here. When /MM came out? I am trying to figure out what it could mean besides Master Mind, and I can't do it. Help? If you did mean Mastermind, I am still lost. Sorry.

    Fix Praetoria

I have to say that I haven't enjoyed Praetoria. I don't think that there is anything WRONG with it, though. I put two toons in there, one is still there. He is a brute and I could easily get him his last 3 levels if I wanted. My elec troller on Triumph was hard, though. I didn't do much damage and couldn't find teams, so I just re-rolled as a hero.

For me, yes, I had planned on have a few Rogues and Vigilantes on servers where I had 2 of the same AT. So I made one of my Tanks Vigilante and a Stalker Rogue. Then I realized that they couldn't get Hero or Villain merits, or more accurately, I realized how great those merits are. So, although I haven't actually done it yet, I am moving any toons all the way rather than just partially.

I don't really have a need to stay in the middle. I have enough toons on each server that I play that I wouldn't ever really have the "need" to fill a something on a team, either side.

Of course, this is personal taste, but I'd much rather have a meatshield Tank any day. One that takes aggro and damage better than any AT can. Others can get close, but nothing can out tank a tank, if all things are equal.

Having said that, a team full of tanks can get the job done, but just ever so slowly. A team full of Brutes would rock it out!

    2. Smoke Grenade allows me to basically raise the defense of my entire team. Couple that with Cloaking Device, and I can stealth through most mobs in the game.
    3. Web Grenade is a pretty hefty -recharge, even when the immobilize doesn't catch. I just toss it twice on bosses to stop them.
    4. The area denial impact of Caltrops is amazing. With a range-capped blaster (I know this isn't the norm), keeping everything out of melee is basically god-mode.
    5. Gun Drone can take some of the aggro that I don't want, and deal a little bit of damage to boot.
    6. Targetting Drone is amazing...forget Build Up. I can constantly hit my target as long as this toggle is running. CoT ghosts, and +1's mean absolutely nothing to me. Burst damage for 10 seconds is very highly overrated when you consider "never" missing. Of course you could just put the Gaussian's proc in this power like I did.
I've never understood why Devices is so unloved, honestly. I imagine it's just under-utilized since it's so unlike other secondaries. I do agree that Time-Bomb is pretty much useless for a good percentage of the population (but to those that make it work...thumbs-up!).

    I've never used Taser
Thanks. This is the kind of thing I was looking for. Pretty sound logic about why you like it. I am not sure I will ever be a fan, but I'd like to see if I can like the toons that I have.
  22. The bird does look a little silly. At least the head does. The talons could be pretty cool. Although I can't see having a bird toon, I like that is so very different than anything we have. I look forward to seeing some around. I hope that they are other new animals with the pack, too.

But there are some VERY useful powers in it, just not as many as in other sets.

Caltrops is wonderful. Slot it with procs and watch it go.

Targeting Drone is a boon to ACC. It's nice not having to worry about accuracy and be able to slot for damage without worrying about it.

Cloaking Device is a nice defensive/stealth power.

The rest of the set is meh, with very situational powers. I really like Gun Drone, but I can see why some people don't. Others like the mines which I can't stand.

I like Devices if I have a primary and several pools that I really want to draw from and I'd rather not have to miss all those skipped powers from my secondary. It makes for a build that has some flexibility, which is always nice, especially if you are used to tight builds where there are tons of powers you wish you had and couldn't fit in.
I am not a fan of caltrops, but I can see why someone would want them. I don't mind Targeting Drone or Cloaking Device, but giving up something like Build up for those just doesn't vibe with me. At the same time, I barely take anything from my Fire secondary, either, but Build Up makes me not complain.
  24. I am not a min/max-er, but it's easy to see some of its shortcomings. Thanks for the response.

With my Elec/ I did solo a lot and trip mined to help. WHAT A PAIN! That is when I vowed that I would never use devices again (especially since I didn't like elec/ as a primary, either). I let out a loud scream when I realized I had another toon with devices as a secondary...
