  1. Next question:

Why does the +stealth IO come in multiple levels? Does its affect vary? Does it have to be the same level as the other IOs in a set to get set bonuses?
  2. Hmm, so, if I get one of those IOs, whenever I use the power it's bound to, I get stealth also with it? But only some powers can take those, I guess. And it can't be put in an auto power, just toggles or instants.

With a toggle, is it stealth while the power is on plus 120 seconds, or only stealth after toggling the other power off?
  3. So, Stealth IOs... At what level can they be gotten? What can they be slotted in? I'm afraid I haven't been able to find this with a couple of casual searches.
  4. Thanks! I'd missed the Dark Armor set, that'll help. Not sure super speed will fit, but I can make something happen.
  5. So, apart from "wait for Going Rogue", if I wanted to have a hero who stealthed into things, how would I go about it? I sort of enjoy Stalker play, but for various reasons, I'd like to make the hypothetical character on blue side. I really like sneaking around, scouting things, and then pulling things after I've planned them out a bit. Options so far:

    * Blaster with /devices for cloaking device (and possibly also concealment power pool)
    * Ill controller for invisibility
    * Just about anything with concealment power pool

Have I missed something? Is this just unviable? Obviously, my interest here is in no small part in soloing things -- I find doing that on a stalker pretty relaxing, because I'm not (usually) in any hurry to clear a mission, I'm just doing it for fun, and sneaking around and setting up fights is a kind of fun.
  6. I still can't imagine how not having a shopping cart system helps.
  7. Well, my customer support ticket got "escalated", haven't heard anything since. Was able to buy a booster pack today. Within a minute, my phone was ringing from the fraud prevention department at the card company, and I am again unable to buy new stuff.

I sort of have to say, this is not what I'd call confidence-inspiring.
  8. Hey, this thread just gave me a question...

Where does all this money come from? People are making tens of millions playing the market, yes... But those tens of millions are coming from other players, and the consignment house takes a cut.

For this to happen, those tens of millions have to be less than the total that people are bringing in through some other means. What are those other means? Where is the inf really coming from?
  9. I filed a ticket. I don't actually expect a response -- I get the feeling that the company has not yet reached that point in its experience of business where they realize that there's a direct correlation between people being able to give them money (and/or having reason to) and the amount of money they have at the end of the month. It can take people a while to get the hang of that.
  10. Huh! Weird, because I was pretty sure I hadn't seen them before.

Anyway, went back to full resolution, turned on a couple of other features, all is well, everything stays stable. Yayyyyyy!

Well, it seems to be over three days.
  12. Wow. You got it -- turning off Geometry Buffers, at a slight cost in pretty (there's some occasional stray pixels between polygons now), seems to have removed the crashing. Went through a costume contest and a longish mission arc, no problems.
  13. Well, given that it seems to be stable enough for my spouse (who is playing 3-4 hour sessions without a crash), it's hard for me to blame Transgaming alone; clearly, there's something special. Either it's a bug triggered by having too much RAM available (WINE is known to act weird if you give it a machine with >4GB sometimes), or it's a driver problem, probably.
  14. Thanks, I'll try that! It doesn't immediately suggest why I would have this problem on this mac, but my spouse wouldn't on an older mac, but it's a thing to try nonetheless.
  15. I don't see any option labeled "Geometric".
  16. I've noticed that CoH seems to be awfully crashy on my Mac -- it crashes several times a night. I've got one of this year's newer MBPs, with the nVidia 330M. My spouse plays on an older Mac with a GeForce 8600M, and has had no crashing problems at all. Crashing is especially bad when in crowded areas or loading a lot of textures.

The only obvious difference, apart from the newer video card, is that my machine has 8GB of RAM, which could be causing WINE to pick up enough memory to trigger some bugs that would otherwise be hidden. Anyone seen this? It's obvious that the game isn't generically this crashy, but at the same time, this machine can run programs other than CoH without any problems...
  17. Eh, I'll just do the easy thing -- forget about it and not pay. I'm not sure this is exactly how a store is supposed to work, but I have to admit, it's saving me money.
  18. I can't find anything saying whether it's 24 hours or some other period -- and I'm pretty sure I haven't bought anything in the last 24 hours. Leaving me with no clue as to when I might be able to get the costume packs.
  19. So, I thought I'd add one of the addon costume packs, 'cuz they look fun.

I got a message saying I can't. Apparently, there is a limit of things bought per time period. I don't know what the time period is, or what the limit is, and there's no shopping cart, so I can't do things in a single transaction anyway. I'm confused.

The web page doesn't say what these limits are, only that individual exceptions can't be made. So far as I can tell, a limit "per household" means that we can't get more stuff for anyone (and we have three new players in this household as of last week) until... uhm. Some unknown future time?

This is confusing. Can someone point me at something that would give me a hint as to when and how I could get other addon packs?
  20. I seem to get this on and off for quite a while. When it's up, it's trying to connect to a particular host which, at the very least, does not respond to pings. I don't know whether it does the same thing when it's working, though, since it's essentially instant so I can't see it. It doesn't seem to indicate any other connectivity problems; if the game crashes, I can be unable to start it while a friend sitting next to me on the same network is playing happily.
  21. Hey, newbie question. If I want to play a Tanker, are there power combos I should definitely avoid or particularly seek out, or is it pretty much "whatever looks fun"?

In particular, am I going to horribly regret doing shield defense/fire? I picked it for purely aesthetic reasons -- it let me get a particular color scheme effect I wanted, I have no idea how good or bad the powers are.
  22. I installed it using the installer. It doesn't seem to have had any effect at all -- it didn't break anything, but it doesn't seem to have changed anything either.
  23. If it's modified to "real name is not displayed unless you want to display it", I'm fine with that. A consistent user tag is an AWESOME thing to have, and would much improve the game.

It may well be that, before the big todo, they simply didn't appreciate just how many problems they'd have with real names. It's quite possible that the group of people discussing this didn't include any of the obviously-affected people, and that it wasn't until Bashiok used a real name on the forums that most of them got any insight into what real names are good for.

It is not unheard of for people who are sure they have a great idea to actually get convinced that they were wrong. Nasty notes from a couple of national governments, for instance, might help a lot.

It may be that they naively assumed that the impact would be that parents wouldn't let their kids use the forums, so it'd give us adults-only forums without really saying so, but if so, that was stupid -- the account would be in the adult's name anyway.
  24. I carefully re-read that post a few times, and I've concluded that "at this time" is, in this case, harmless.

    The sentence is, roughly:

We've decided at this time that the official forums will not require your real name.

    Now, if they'd written:

We've decided that at this time the official forums will not require your real name.

I'd be more worried. As is, that's just corporatese -- you have to tag announcements with "at this time" so people feel like they're getting a fresh new announcement. The thing announced is not thus qualified, only the fact of the announcement. There's another sentence later on that hasn't got the qualifier at all, and it seems like they've probably decided to comply with the laws of about half the countries they do business in, their ESRB rating, and the overwhelming majority of their users.
  25. My background is from WoW, where even on servers that nominally enforce RP, there's not always much of it. I'm finding CoH hard to RP in as a hero, simply because it's hard to GET anywhere if I stay in character. Step step kill muggers step step more muggers step step gang step step muggers. I'm this close to seeing whether I can just hand people transit tokens or something so they stop walking around where all the muggers are.
