Once they got recommended to me by a variety of people, including someone whose major home forum for a few years was Something Awful, I concluded there must be SOMETHING to them.
-
Sanitize the user parts, to be sure, but you could create a DB dump of the forums (vB has a one-button feature for this pretty much) so that we could not lose our old threads.
Would be SUPER AWESOME. And the thing is, we can totally get this data, but... You can get it about 30000 times more easily. -
What I like about it, personally, is the INSANE flexibility for soloing. My main running-around build on rogue is 32 riftstalker, 12 bard, 22 assassin, and it's LOVELY for basically everything I want to do -- exploring, artifacting, invasions, etc.

Rift and TSW both definitely have a fair amount of room for role experimentation.
Virtually nothing is as forgiving mechanically as CoH is. On the other hand, that doesn't mean you're stuck with exactly one combination of roles that can ever work.
Rift has mentoring-down, but not sidekicking-up. TSW doesn't really, but doesn't need it much for mechanical reasons. -

You guys rock. I will miss you.
Seriously, there have been whole months when I never quite got around to logging into CoH, but I kept the sub up and hung out on the forums anyway.
For what it's worth, I'm active in Rift and TSW, and currently trying out DDO. I'm usually "seebs" or some variant in game forums (for Rift, I'm "the_real_seebs").
TSW's got free trials up, DDO's free (but they sure do push their store; on the other hand, it's a lot less buggy than the CoH store), Rift is I think "free" to level 20 or so, which is basically a day or two for a newbie.
Would be glad to see people in any of those. TSW, I'm mostly on Arcadia, Rift Faeblight, DDO Sarlona. (I play both factions in Rift, and all three in TSW; faction makes no real difference in TSW and will make very little in Rift next patch.) -
I'm not quite as concerned about the refund question as I would be about any new charges. That said, I would rather get a refund than time in any of their other games; they don't make any other games I'd be willing to pay money for.

Quote:The ToS/EULA says they get the rights "as far as legally allowed". I have no clue how far is legally allowed.OK, sure I know I can, but is it legal? Allowable? Against this games eula? If yes, would it still be against this game's eula if this game is dead?
My thought: What are they gonna do about it? -
Zwill, you should totally drop Trion a line. Their community reps consider you awesome, and I think you'd be a good fit for their team.

And the thing is, I'm not sure there's any reason that anyone but the lawyer types would be. Or heck, maybe they were aware that there was a fine print thing saying "in the event that X and Y and Z and W happen, Licensor shall have the right to revoke this agreement by giving 90 days' written notice and a one-time payment of $N". Or something like that.
-
Well, the thing is, do note: They bought the IP. They licensed the engine.
It is not unthinkable for a licensing deal to have a term that allows it to be terminated by one party, or to need renewal, or something.
Or heck, maybe they could renew it, but it would be Cash Now to renew for five more years, and that's not a good deal, while the game was profitable as long as they still had an already-paid-for license. -
Trying to remove a card, can't because the billing server is overloaded.
-
Someone posted a more detailed explanation in the Justice forums.
I am persuaded that this makes sense. -
It's hard to tell. And my spouse can't log in. And the support.ncsoft.com site uses an invalid security certificate, so we can't ask for help there, and the security question answers appear to be wrong, and the "enter an email address to get an access code" thing doesn't work.
If there are charges, there will be disputes.
EDIT: Found it. Looks like I had one in February, one in October or so, and one in November. All cards now removed.
Meh. I was really, really, looking forward to nrg/dev in i24. -
Quote:I don't think it does at all. First, no RICO in Korea. Second, I don't see any way in which you'd face RICO charges for refusing to renew an agreement that was bundled with stuff you'd bought from another company who bought it from another company over the previous five years.I kind of doubt that. There are usually renewel license agreements and if Perfect World did that, it leaves them open to RICO charges.
Quote:I really think NCSoft is in emergency 'cut wages and costs mode' to stave off hemoraging. -
Quote:Because that other project isn't already profitable, and ncsoft's short of money. While I can buy that, why shutter the entire studio? Why even green-light another project (presumably not using the Cryptic engine) from Paragon?
Presumably they'd keep running it if they could keep running CoH, since it was profitable.
This theory makes a lot of sense. -
I play TSW and Rift. Thinking about DDO. I had been thinking about GW2, but there's no way I'm getting involved with an ncsoft MMO after this.
-
So, given that November 30th is 5 years after the end of the month in which ncsoft bought the IP rights to CoH/CoV, and licensed the engine technology...
Is that it? -
Might well have bought it this weekend, a friend was really into it.
-
I am pretty sure I am adequately easy to find.
Gonna have to start working on my "how to suck at" guides for other games, though. -
So far as I know, the rule was set by ncsoft, the mods are employees of Paragon, and they may well not care very much. But I figured I'd ask.
-
I play Rift and TSW. (Well, this last week or two, I work on application development. But in GENERAL, I play Rift and TSW.)
-
I would very much like to be able to keep in touch with some of the awesome people I know from CoH.
Which would mean talking to them about what else I play.
I'm just wondering: Would you guys be willing to cut us some slack for some "CoH Players In <x>" threads? -
Thing is, so far as we know, the game was profitable. So whatever the monthly profit/loss of ncsoft is with CoH, it will be lower profit or higher loss without...
