Quote:If that's what he meant, why would he say "solo only play style", given that those words in no way imply anything you just said?Tony is asserting that some people believe the entire game must be accessible to someone who solos only, not that the entire game must contain nothing but solo-exclusive content.
Under that criteria, there are lots of people who believe either that the entire game should be accessible to solo-only players, or that all possible rewards must be accessible through content explicitly designed to be soloable. -
Not sure, but I know the reverse works. If you take a tumble off a sky scraper and turn on SJ before you hit, you take no/less damage.

Quote:What are you talking about, it's not like adding 3 new power slots would make the game explode or something. Oh Shi...This sounds kind of exciting, but I'm not really sure what it means. The implication seems to be that there is a lot more under the surface of the engine (read: potential for major new features) than anyone realizes or knows about. I am somewhat skeptical of this because it is difficult to reconcile how the following two facts, stated in these forums, could be true at the same time:
- The engine is 10 years old and still capable of major new features.
- Features like dynamic mission content and smarter mobs are simply impossible, presumably because the engine is so old and architecturally inflexible (usually phrased as "the engine can't support it").

Quote:Doing repetitive tasks in order to get a reward is not the same thing as playing the game.Nope... my worry comes in the form that I don't like the idea of people not playing the game, and still getting what they want. The game is about playing it, and there are some things you gotta do to get what you want, if you don't like that, then you need to learn to live without those things.

Quote:So, in your world, the entire endgame is "a few minutes"?Because "wanting to have fun" is being defined as "entertained 100% of the time, never ever ever having to spend a few minutes doing something I don't want to."
Quote:Hope that clears it up. -

Quote:What still bothers me is that they needed to be told. It still seems like it came as a huge shock to them that not everyone wanted massive cluster ***** for new content. To the op: I've been a casual player for 6+ years and this is the only game that I have kept coming back to for longer than 3 weeks. I have also been frustrated at times with the Incaranate system (I haven't even tried the last 3 Trials yet) but I belive you have nothing to worry about. There have been many threads calling for a better solo Incarnate path (not just grinding or farming) and the devs have paid attention to them and responded to them and i22 is their answer.

If you've got two throw away powers in the medicine tree, it's much less likely you got to softcap without sacrificing something else.

Quote:5% recharge + ED on the regen bonus + near cap recharge to keep it up on more allies at the same timeTemporal Selection: 5 slots here for a 5% Recharge? Personally, I think you can get by with a simple Recharge here, and use those 4 slots in other places. To make up for the 5% Recharge lost, you could replace Recall Friend with Combat Jumping (immob protection and maneuverability) and slot it with a LotG Recharge.
Sometimes slotting helps the base effects of the power and not just the global bonuses. -
Quote:Why not just buy them off the market and spend my time with my friends doing things I enjoy instead?I don't really see how what I said reaffirmed any of your opinions considering that everything I said basically amounted to it not being necessary to buy enhancements using paragon points or going to the gold farmers. Like I said in my earlier post, it's pretty easy to do without having to resort to things like that. I'm sure you've got at least a couple friends that have figured it out so why not save your cash and ask them for help?

Quote:Then we would have some pieces with rings and others without. I like easy questions.OK, so what if the majority of votes calls for the spacesuit with the rings, but nothing else with rings wins?
Quote:Or if the only ring item is the rocket pack? What then?
Quote:It doesn't really fit the rest of the design. -
I could not possibly disagree with the OP more. Having the pieces designed to be part of pre-made sets is what has resulted in all of the minimally useful, shaded, complete non-versatile options we have been getting lately.
I would much prefer if they didn't even let the guy designing the space suit talk to the guy making the jetpack. It would improve our chances of getting some good mix-and-match pieces. -
Quote:And the game is being improved by removing that needless limitation. This is no different than the way the game was improved by the removal of the needless cape limitation or the needless travel power limitation. Not really.
1) Not offering certain things at all is perfectly valid
Prior to this offering, they didn't offer ANY of these pieces before. They were all restricted to the completion of an event a certain badge in-game and only unlocked to that character when you earned that badge. They've been doing this for years-
It is a question of why they choose to improve the game a little when they could instead improve it by even more with no additional coding requirements. It's effectively a free boost in the quality of the game at no real cost.
Quote:the ITF has been around for ages- and it really isn't too uncommon for games to put a few "trophy" pieces as rewards for completing certain events.
Quote:By offering the costume pieces that they have, they effectively reduced the value of that trophy- making the amount that are truly unique and event tied MUCH smaller.
Quote:This change effectively reduces the impact of what you're complaining about while still putting (less critically-defining) pieces aside for rewards.
Quote:2) I really can't see how this is a "larger issue" when so few pieces are locked away (and even LESS with this change). This seems much less a "missing the forest because of the trees" and more like "mistaking a shrub for a forest." -
Quote:That is all perfectly valid as a way for making a decision to buy this particular pack. What it doesn't address is the larger issue of why they aren't offering certain things at all. It's a mistake to miss the forest because of the trees. They're selling a collection of costume pieces at a discount to what it would be if you bought each piece separately. What they decide to offer is their discretion. Just because something exists and would fit doesn't mean you're entitled to it.
They're the ones defining the bundle. Heck they could throw in a minotaur and cyclops-appearance temp power at their discretion if they so chose.
Look at the pack as the sum of all its parts and see if its worth it. If it isn't, don't get it. -
It's not "needed" now, but it certainly would have made the game better on day 1. Being on at the same time as 2 friends and not being able to do anything together without relegating one guy to getting no XP was not fun.
-
Quote:And from this we can answer the OP question with "It's so good because it has significantly improved over the years."Also, I can't really pass this up without mentioning the fact that the level 30 store for Natural is hidden in a tunnel in FF, which makes it kinda difficult to stumble across in the days before it was on the map, and at launch the tech store (Mark IV) used to be surrounded by high level Crey spawns, so you could be killed trying to buy enhancements.
The best part about Mark IV being totally surrounded by Crey? He's supposedly on the run from Crey.
Heck, I still remember trying to tetris an 8 man group together before super sidekicking. The choice to take something that's already good and make it better makes the game good. -
Quote:I clipped down to these two "facts" since they are the only ones relevant here and the others are you just fluffing the word count of your post.Don't confuse these guys with facts
Fact: The devs have said they kept some items that are unlocked by completing the ITF (The Romulus Augustus and Nictus Swords) out of the Roman pack so there is still things to unlock in the ITF.
Fact: The shields in the Roman pack are also unlocked by earning the Centurion badge, but if the devs included the Swords and axes there would be no reward left for earning the badge.
The first one isn't a "fact" so much as it is a choice. A decision they made. No one denies that you accurately described their choice, only whether it is a stupid choice or not.
And as for the second one there, yes, you are correct again. That does accurately describe what would be true if they did include the weapons for sale. Of course, it does not go on to give any reason why that would be a bad thing, so it approaches the same level of irrelevance as the other "facts" you listed. -
What are these two hypothetical groups? No, really, presumably there is a group out there that would be upset if people could access certain swords at level 1. Who are these people? What rationale do they have for that opinion and why should that rationale be respected by anyone?

Quote:To appease those who are (how do you say) "inadequate in the pants" who need something to brag about. But there's no *need* to *compromise*. We aren't enemies. They're a business wanting to make money. We're players wanting to throw money at them for a perk to make available customizable options at level 1 for all toons. The free version is still in game. The pay-for version is for those willing to pay. Where is there a need to compromise over this?
