Quote:ok, that didnt seem like a total dismissal then, and i note the second comment too about luke cage, but i can see it being in a "not too soon" category, the developers and players have had disagreements on this topic before, and they eventually went with them, so cant lose hopeAccording to the feeder:
Q: More villain costumes availabe like seers, praetorian clockwork, or simple street clothes option?
Nate: We've discussed street clothes but they're not "very heroic". -
Quote:what was the full context? because i know david himself floated the idea of a street/urban costume set in the booster thread, so it may well be a case of, eventually, but not soon enough that we want you to get excited about.Am I the only one who finds this to be very disappointing, and a bit of a disservice? For a game that touts customization, saying "Oh, you can't have a street clothe wearing hero, it's not heroic." strikes me as being a big mistake.
Heroes can be caught offguard, or maybe not have time to get into their costume. We have Pocket D and Studio 55 for roleplaying, there are characters that aren't spandex clad heroes, that street clothing would suit, it would suit villains to for similar reasons.
Also, if street clothes 'aren't very heroic', then what the hell, Party Pack? How heroic is dancing like Michael Jackson, or bouncing a basketball? -
well, tommorow(or more accurately, later today) is pax east, didn't really expect them to step on their own feet for a big announcement. this seemed to be a piece for people who arent current players/active forumites. so the lack of major news..eh, not really a big worry, just get chatty later today, thanks.

one other thing is that given the instanced nature of the game, most players who are doing something are in a any number of instanced maps outside of your view. add in the speed of travel powers and even the 2 pack powers to get between missions fast and the use of cell phones and tips/papers that dont require running to a central quest giver more than a few times, and you will see that there arent many people loitering out in the open. broadcast generally has a bad reputation. look down in the server subforums and find out what the big ones are, dont think you can get on them in trial accounts, but you can set up meeting more expereinced players for some fun.

with the fanservice toned down, i'd love to see an empowered movie.
-
not bad, the lack of actual ingame art might be jarring for a new player, but overall commendable effort.

its like 300 after some really strong cold medicine.

Quote:very true, till i read the backgrounder and ran the missions of the one hmong community related contact, i was sure they were supposed to be japanese, owing to the elements you mentioned. maybe making them really representitive of hmong culture would be interesting, i doubt many Americans or western Europeans really are that familiar, as i said, im not and i try to be kind of informed about the region. that or finally moving Yakuza, or triads into paragon/rogue. also, I reiterate, Indian cultural stories would be RIFE with good stuff for incarnate and regular content, if it could be handled sensitively. also, costume stuff..do eeet.True, but I'm not sure the Tsoo would be the greatest of guides into hmong culture when they run around with Japanese swords, use Chinese sai, and have very strongly Japanese (at least to my knowledge) tattoo artwork, wear Japanese Han'nya masks, and have a boss in Radios/newspapers named 'Katana'.
I recall running a tip mission with a friend of mine where every time they referred to themselves, they called themselves 'The Hmong Tsoo' as though after years of not remembering they were Vietnamese, they now remembered and hooked 'Hmong' onto their group name as a reminder of what their actual ethnicity was.
oh, and almost forgot, a really good idea that i beleive fredvard mentioned was to expand the culture of the kheldians. it would be a mythos they would have free reign with and wouldn't have to worry about offending anyone. and yes, khelds are kind of a nick of h.p. lovecraft's "shadow out of time" as disembodied space travelers that take their host bodies forms but recall elements of past hosts, though they tend to be better about consent -
well,as mentioned, greek myth was jacks thing before he came to coh, and it does tend to speak to a civilization founded on a lot of its principles and imagery. that aid, there is an underlying nudge to celtic mythology in croatoa(though occasionally paraphrased and with some shifts in characterizations) also, hidden in the origins of hero one and some of the halloween events and vet pets, the english fae mythology is an underlying element, both for its arthurian elements and witht he inclusion of the unseelie court, and presumably the seelie court for the hero vet pets. I'd love to see that, and my desire to see some Japanese or Korean mythos here is well documented. i guess the problem is that issues hit maybe 3 times a year, and any developing story is going to take multiple "acts" to tell, so story progression is necessarily slow. Thats one reason the praetorian thing is wearing on some people.
But more is always good. heck, i know nothing of hmong culture, but id love to see the tsoo fleshed out, learning new cultures is always a broadening experience, also, id think indian avatars would be a perfect fit for the concepts of incarnates, right? would probably bring some kick butt costume stuff/weapons with it. -
as a slightly related aside, did we have a thread for defendor? another really nice real-world superhero movie with a enjoyable story arc, good soundtrack too.

first character was my ma/sr scrapper, still love it. it got a lot better with subsequent buffs, he was my second incarnate(first was violet tendencies, my first vill, also got some nice buffs in the dom secondary upgrade) still love scrappers, they are self sufficient , dont get chain mezzed(my main annoyance with defenders) and look good kicking butt. but i have grown to appreciate difference both within ats and outside of them.

no, really quite the opposite, i play solo or small groups like always, but now i keep my global tab open while playing and now more than ever i have the option of finding new stuff to switch and do as well. I still see plenty of players running morality mishes, but i kind of like the amount of added tfs going on now, prior to i19 they were there, but not as frequent. now there is less pressure so if an itf is being advertised, but i have to eat/go to the store/just want to chill that day, i know others will be up when i'm more in the mood.
-
i have this issue as well, and since i have a lot of utility powers on my second cursor bar, losing that can be a real problem. i blamed it on my newer g-card which upped my resolution.
-
i doubt it would really benefit anything. there are always going to be arguments about the quality of this feature or that, and being stuck in an endless look of reaction is a good way to become permanently paralyzed by indecision and increasingly vocal minorities. I'm not overly enthused about them being limited to praetorians, but since i havent read the lore surrounding it yet, i cant make a decision based rationally on whether its good or not, those already reacting do not seem to be interested in giving feedback so much as protesting the continued use of praetoria, and outside of radically changing the storyline, there isn't going to be much to fix that.

reference to an old commercial. checking for fogies who would remember it. if you do, i AM calling you old.

How many level 50's are you attempting to 'become an incarnate'?
so far 4.
Do you feel that doing more than say one hero and one villain is doing 'too much at once'?
ok, i couldn't make a cogent porn joke so i'll be serious. its not excessive but it is work, if you are fairly good with your global channel and can get on raids well, its doable. you may want to skip the top level stuff and just go for uncommon or rare powers, the bump between rare and very rare tend to be fairly small anyhow.
Do you feel a shift has occured to more time devoted soley to level 50's leaving far less time to level an alt?
no, not really, i'm not a real rp'er but i like character concepts, if one strikes me, i play them. I have noticed i just play a bit more.
Do you feel this is a good thing?
well, the last answer doesnt really set that up, playing more is good if i feel properly motivated to do so, rather than as part of a treadmill process. so far, so good.
Do you seem to not have enough time to devote to alt characters because you feel you need to be collecting shards and such?
no, but blame the sociopaths at my job for that one.
Do you think changing the Weekly Task Force to a Bi-montly Task Force would be 'better'? Perhaps offering a more relaxed atmosphere for the playerbase?
eh, id have to see how it works in practice, but in theory i dont think so.
Am I just nuts?
if you work at a place like i do, probably, see time comment...whimper.
using mouse's formatting because it was the most readable. -
so..no costume pieces...that would be the second issue now we haven't had new player costume pieces, third if you consider issue 18 without gr, as those were paid pieces...really guys?
beyond that, ill check out the tfs, not completely buzzed about it being all tfs and trials but maybe they will be fun. maybe more info is coming from pax, i would expect them to mention something from there. -
first thing to come to mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDuw7ytUlzQ&feature=fvst second thing, ya know gg, we have talked about this before, but i really wish that you would not make these promises on the devs behalf unless you have it as an absolute certainty(in which case you would likely be bound by an nda), all this does is set people up to be disappointed and is really unfair to the developers.

i remember front-loading, sometimes the enemies were +2 or worse. then the named boss would con grey.
-
heck with that, its a good look, dramatic and contrasts well. blue and white too, works for ice themed characters. so i have lots of both.
-
if i make a good costume with him/her, maybe, i'd be proud of that. but i'm not really concerned with farming, i usually don't, have in the past(though not in a particularly hardcore fashion), if others want to do it, so long as they clearly state their intentions when forming a team, and dont spam broadcast/globals, i have no real issues. Pride over such things seems to make unfortunate value judgments that kind of overreach.
-
yep, pork and beans http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQHPYelqr0E south park did it too, the problem is you can only do self referential jokes about internet "talents" so often before it becoems like the scary movie offshoots, the joke just stops working.

well trying tonight with my rad/rad defender. with rian(ma/sr, set bonuses but nothing nuts) wiped the floor with him. no significant offense, he bi'd once, but they are really weak and i just dropped it with an eye beam followed by a vet blackwand. the next attack chain dropped him.
with violet (plant thorn dom, modest ios) also stomped him quickly. holds helped, she was in dom and he ouldnt move the whole fight.
with my first incarnate, my emp/lit defender i got a team and we barely noticed him. will see how my def solos him tonight.
ok, and results, it was slow going. with my toggles he really had a hard time hitting me(though given the heavy hitting nature of energy melee, when he hit, things got ugly) but good lord he spawns fast, with the lower damage it was noticeable. now with my knockback capacity in rad blast, i was able to get him in the lava, he isn't that hard to convince, and keep him knocked back a good percentage of the time, but i have a lot more sympathy for people's issues. and when he actually beats you and you have to run back, good grief does he bifrucate in your absence a lot, usually 5-6 and thats just running from the oro portals to the crystal. so now i understand a bit of people's complaints, still won, but if i were playing a defender without knockback/down, i can see some difficulty
