Quote:you will likely be able to craft rares in all 4 at that level, provided your teams arent bad, and lb i will just suggest they probably wont be. as for very rares, as you probably noticed with the alphas, very rares really dont enhance things that much, outside of some of the lores. they help, but they are definitely prestige levels, the additional power over rares is frosting, but rares will provide the significant bulk of your power. i didnt see you specify tier 4s, so i didnt take that into account, but i see a good number of players stopping at 3, and i have myself. its where i got my shifts, and its where i got most of my power for relative low investment of time, if you want to run 3-4 times as many to get to the tier 4, then yah, make it higher, but tier 3 is really enough. I actually found that in the time it took me to unlock the slots, i could make tier 3s and never even dealt with t1s or 2s so i started at high strength. In regards to the number of trials required, are those numbers you're stating to completely get all the way to Tier 4 in all the currently available slots? The reason I ask is I have seen people claim they have done 100+ trials and STILL aren't "done" with the slots currently in game. Not contesting your numbers, just confused because the numbers you're stating seem quite low compared to what I've seen others say. Again, I don't know, because I won't touch the trials myself with a 10 foot pole.
as for you warshade, impressive, ill admit, with rian(my main hero) i have yet to ever get him to a billion inf, and fully slotting him out took significantly longer before i started running tfs(only joined lb a year or so ago) now i was slotting alts as well, so i was raising about 8 chars at once at the 40+ range. and i didnt farm katie or ae, those who did went faster, but for the case of the "regular" player, id be surprised if they got all the ios that a teamer could get it would take longer. -
Quote:i did mention farming and such for a reason, steel is not generally talking about people at your level of hardcore-ness and i was mentioning that while exceptions like yourself exist, im not seeing a more casual solist like mirai or myself getting a full purple set, or even a number of complete kinetic combats/numis/luck of the gamblers any time soon. but how many allts do you have, how many have you seriously io'd out, my point was that while it was theoretically possible for soloists to achieve io parity before, they had to work a great deal harder, and for those like sam who have a good number of alts, getting a significant number to parity with what dedicated teamers can accomplish with the additional benefits of tf drops, higher kill rates, and additional merits, your post does not really refute that. i had forgotten a-merits, those help for non purple recipies, but still i was saying that there never was full parity between a teamer and a casual solists real likely power levels, unless they play long hours, have insane luck or have frigging spread sheets going, like some-devil i know. While it wasn't AS easy to get purpled and IOed out while solo, it was nowhere near the gap that currently exists for incarnate buffs. I farmed and paid inflated prices for my build, yes, but was able to do so by what I did solo in game. I was done with that first build in what I felt was a properly comparable time to the time spent by my team-minded brother.
As for the HO period... I was one of the evil punks that would show up during the hold phase. -
well, as i said in a similar thread, i wouldnt make money with this, but here's my id's wish for an issue 21. we know some hints, soemthignt o do with magic, somethign with the carnies of light, new zone that doesnt have a specific story arc, proliferation including ice armor for srappers. but heres my wants
1. new costumes, every issue. right now, for reasonability sake, id say the idf and a form of the carnies stuff we were asking for in the enemy costume thread, masks, corsets, those cool boots, the swords, those would fit the hinted theme of the issue. maybe something else magic-y since the carnies ara a lot less option heavy for males and huges.
2. customization, start with high demand stuff on the pools(hasten, looking at you) and some magic looking options for the med pool. also, maybe see if we can sneak over some kicks from ma into alternate animations for some of the elemental sets and kinetic melee,a swell as some open haded strikes from kinetic melee into MA. also, see if we could add one or two new weapons for elemental sets, maybe an ice katana, fire longsword, electric scimitar?
3. well, ham undergroundi is about 50/50 but another trial would deepen the pool a bit, and its about time for the hami to assert himself as a threat again.
4. for the proliferation, dark assault for doms OR martial assault for doms, ma/kin attacks mixed with shuriken and caltrops, dark control for trollers and doms, martial manipuation for blasters. poison defenders, martial arts brutes(see a theme?) super strength scrappers, ice melee stalkers, for tanks, i dunno, how about katana? not married to that one.
5. if they are super awesome, 2-3 missions on a timer that can allow you to start getting threads solo/in small groups.
6. base stuff, i dunno, they have lists on their subforums, just go there and pick some low hanging fruit, i bet they will be happy.
maybe some new tip missions? i love them and want more. -
Quote:for lambda, i have seen it take between 4-5 runs for me to get interface and about the same for destiny. bafs take longer, maybe 10 runs if you arent on the ambush team and just focus on the avs. it takes less time if you are good with the market and have extra cash, 2.5 mill really sint that hard if you just cash in 2 aligment merits, get something like a kinetic combat and pop up 100+million. lesss if you actually are savvy with the market, im not, an 88 or even my one sgmate can make several times that in a few minutes, but im going for the foolproof way. that can chop off significant amounts of ixp needed.Just one thing I'd like to point out that popped into my head when reading this: yes the Trials are short by design. An individual trial can be run very quickly. But how many trials does it take? Since I haven't done them I honestly don't know, but my impression is it takes quite a few (as in more than a dozen). So while yes an individual trial is short the overall time investment required is quite large. But then, that's typical of endgame grinds. All the ones I've ever seen are set up that way, so in that regard CoH's is no different.
I think what does give us a slightly different situation is that, as ThatGuy said in his first post, prior to now a solo player could achieve the exact same "level of power" as a team player. That is no longer the case. It is that change that has caused me to question the lack of a solo option in this system.
trials can stack pretty fast, so i have had nights where in a 2 hours i have run 4 successful bafs with no prisoners escaped(more astral merits), you are on lb, right, i know you are a liberty-ite. You will undoubtedly say that 20 runs is too many for judge and lore(about 10 each if you dont cash in or get on ambush teams), but that really is only 10 hrs, and on lb we tend to run 3-5 at a time, so you will have little standing around and much quick, competent teams.
one other thing i have to address, soloist could achieve the same amount of power technically as teamers during the io era(back when hamis buffed more, teamers had a distinct advantage unless they had a teaming alt or a sg sugardaddy to give them ho's) it was not as easy, several recipes were locked behind running tfs, so you had to either be fantastically lucky with a boss(they had a low drop rate), or got preternaturally lucky and got a full purple set from drops, you had to farm, or you had to buy them at inflated rates from the market. none of those were particularly "fun-speed" for a dedicated solist, a teamer always had a distinct advantage, and if you had a good number of alts you wanted to power up, it really became significantly difficult to run at parity with a teamer for a non farmer/marketeer. so while your statement was technically correct, you would be hard pressed to say it was realistic for a good portion of players who would be dedicatedly soloing because of shyness, time or system issues. -
Quote:the issue is looking at the second half of your post, i dont see saying rational things really affecting your opinion. you already discounted not only the current system but any future system so for you it really probably is the end, and as i said earlier, changes will always count as the end for some people, the best ones also indicate the beginning or the return for others, we will see how things shake out, but i have been here for 7 years, i have seen the general capacity of how much they can produce at any one time, and how willing they are to change things to be more user friendly (do you remember when almost every arc in the endgame ended with an av that only a few at the time could solo? they changed that after getting enough feedback and getting the time to implement it)The problem is the system has already been optimised by the current market leader.
But no rather than having y'know a normal TF sized team advancement mode (which might be a little bit slower than the raid (I believe they are called 'heroics')) as well as the raids, they went just with raids and told us there might be pie for us tomorrow. Unfortunately 'tomorrow' appears to be a mixture of condescending parental ‘maybe’ and Valve time. I.E ‘Maybe in two years after subscription numbers have slipped to the point we are worried about our jobs’.
my view is simply to be realistic, they can put only so much content out at a time, so things work gradually, but i have faith based on prior behavior that it will get better, there will be more and more angles. if you don't, then it probably is time that a line has been crossed and you just don't find it fun here anymore, but i have to stress that from my observations over 7 years this 22nd, is that that is not how they work, you just need a reasonable expectation of how much they can do in an issue. -

Quote:it is a balance. some people dislike the change, some very much so, some others, including a poster with whom i have fought for years now have posted how a real endgame has caused him to return and reactivate his sub. nobody has real numbers past heavily biased anecdotes, and objectively saying that it has either been universally loved or universally disliked is very likely inaccurate. its being given a chance by a good number of players, it will have to be improved, and change will scare some people into leaving, this is unavoidable and staying exactly the same(focusing on tfs and mechanically similar story arc missions) may or may not have caused just as many people to leave out of boredom, and continued lack of challenge. there really are no facts at evidence other than some people on the internet are angry, as they always are, and a new system will need refined several times before it becomes optimal. All right. I tried them. I hate them even more than I thought I would. The reward structure is about the worst I've ever been involved in, across any of the MMOs I've played. So bad I've been driven to posting in the forums to make sure the devs at least have a chance of hearing that not everyone likes their shiny new monstrosity.
A couple of my SG mates have cancelled, even more don't want anything further to do with the trials at all - save, perhaps, posting in the forums in self defense themselves. How is any of this at all good for the game? A few more people posting in the forums about how they don't like the latest content is not really a net positive. -
well, customizing your pets is something we have been asking for, but it will be a lot of wok, or so it has been implied. so the answer is not yet, maybe someday, possibly not but unlikely soon.
-
oh god, im retiring from the forums for a few weeks. time to go talk on the cross-stitching forums instead till the fallout clears.
-
one addendum to this idea, another idea that has floated is reoing some of the dead space in steel canyon with a "little tokyo/hong kong/seoul" type area where immigrants in the past bonded together in a tight community and still show traces in the architecture and culture of the area, that might be a way to introduce the content, on a scaled down level, while not spreading the community even more thin.
and yeah, they would have your roofs younmight be a good time for some additional( and in the case of ma BETTER) animations to ma/kin melee, wouldn't it
-
yes but i said it with more alts and costumes, so nayh.
-
that contextualizes it a bit more,she/hes not aying that the trials are inherently flawed, its that their challenge levels are adjusted for the reward, whereas itfs., cops and such are still based around the difficulty of the old game, i.e doable with so's. its a bit different than the implication earlier. that said, i definitely think/would be surprised if i were wrong that once they have adequate trial content, there will be solo incarnate missions as well, just not right away.

Quote:sounds like watchmen.REALLY obscure piece of backstory, and I don't remember where it's from but:
I heard a while back that comics are just as common in Paragon City as they are in our world. Instead of focusing on superheroes though, since heroes are so common in Paragon, they instead focus on other genres such as mysteries and romance. -
Quote:you know, i always feel kinda sketchy about sharing things told to me by developers unless they explicitly say its official company line and not just the opinion of one or a few people. because that statement, outside of any real context appears to short-sell the trail systems(which without bogging down on who has the bigger group, on liberty certainly is engaging MOST of the long time players on the lb channel) and looks unfairly damaging. can you give full context of it and whether this was someone who actually worked on the full implementation of it, or was just a worker making a flippant comment under the implied condition of it not negatively affecting his co-workers efforts and reputations? It just seems, as related to us by a person who has been heavily critical of the system, to be a little too black and white .True story: A dev told me in beta they were afraid people wouldn't run the trials they put so much work into if there was an alternative (even if the alternative was slower).
Instead of just making sure the trials are fun and stand on their own merits, they decided to force play of them by making them the only way to advance. -
Quote:does wendy have me on ignore:P?Dang I didnt realize the Tsoo were Chinese. [must research more
] Still both cultures had their periods where war lords ruled and both revere dragons and pay omage to their ancestors so it would still work we just need to switch countries LOL Oh and yeah the idea of a female AV in that setting wouldn't work well. The only time a female is permitted to walk in front of a male in (I THINK) older Japan was when there was a possibility of a land mine or booby trap going off.
and since we are going more by anime asian history than real japanese history, im sure we could indulge in some artistic alterations. there certainly are aspects in folklore that allow for a powerful female character even in more traditional times in japan. the character of the shamanic princess himiko certainly pops up a lot and she may or may not have even existed. similarly in the kojiki(a shinto creation story) inzunagi, the chief creation god is opposed by his equally powerful deceased former wife, inzunami. so a re-tool of her could also work well, if we are going strictly japanese. one dodge i had suggested with my future japan, global environmental damage had cause mass migrations from korea and mainland china to japan, that way we can use the guild wars method of "lets take the cool stuff from all 3 histories and jumble it up" not great for puritst, but if i get my zone, ill be good. -
ok quick recap, now, is this being considered legit or a hoax?
-
i suggested something similar a while ago, to flesh it out a bit, it would be nice to put it in oroboros, like cimoria. my iunitial suggestion was for it to be more futuristic ghost in the shell type megatokyo with the oppositional group being a union of futuristic elements represented by violent yakuza and traditional fantastic elements with a group of hostile onmyoji with yaokai on their side, with the heroes being futuristic super scientists/police units and traditional samurai clans and fanciful presentations of mikos. of course, id go for africa and mayan too. heck, i have been nagging for "world of heroes" since issue 2 ish. india is somewhere i always felt was underutilized, the gods and demons of the ramayana and mahabharata could easily fall into the concept of great superpowered beings. and of coures, i have a few ideas for costumes, david cheryl and jay can put the restraining order out on me now if this idea ever happened, because i have some pages of suggestions
.
oh and wendy, i like your ideas, perhaps to get around the 2 legs thing, we can use the animation rig for tier 2 demons, they kind of run on 4 legs, a good bit more convincingly than beast run (though i still like it, no slight to the animator) and a dragon that moved like that would be acceptable in my book. otherwise, i sign your idea heartily, and any other that gets me more dragons into the game.
my only issue with the tsoo is they are specifically linked with the hmong people, a ethnically distinct group from southeast asia, and according to their backgrounder, they initially chased the yakuza out of paragon. not really a great fit for a strictly Japanesse setting. But, as i said in the recently re closed anime suggestion thread, a story where they linked with the triads and yakuza in an emergency alliance of convenience, hey that would fix it for me. -
Quote:well, to put it in a slightly less pejorative fashion, they keep people from burning through the content as fast as they can and burning out. its really kind of linked to behavioral psychology, behaviors repeated quickly and repetitively, regardless of rewards, die out fast. putting some limiter on them, and randomizing rewards makes them last longer and delays burnout, so it does make sense.Team play being faster is simply a reward of going through the extra trouble of forming a team along with the fact that a group should be more powerful than an individual. And time-gating is the nature of a game that makes it's money the longer you maintain your subscription.

i was thinking of sun wukong as well when i read the title. i was thinking of the anime paprika where she skydives into a dream and shifts into monkey king form.(cant find it on youtube)
(oh and oz, i think most monty python fans know that slang) -
cool, i was wondering about that. i know on the itf they make things fun, and 2 weeks ago on liberrty, we did a complete pug cothedral of pain with most of the people, including myself, having never done it. but with great leadership(i stress this) and incarnates, we dropped him fast, looks like hami needs to unlock his alpha slot too.
-
It isnt, but as i mentioned upthread, there is a real likelihood that the solo content may be failable and difficult, at least initially, as the trials were. now remembering the trapdoor situation, this could create a toxic situation with some people. this is not a reason to not do solo-small group stuff, just a cautious addendum, that there will very likely be solo content, but it may not be soloable for everyone.
-
well, best i can say is keep an eye on the foums every once and a while. i wouldn't expect solo incarnate stuff soon, but on the same token, in the long runi would be surprised if there weren't a tip/paper style option, they did note that in the ustream chat a while ago and , while noting it would be a long way off, that there could be solo/small team stuff as well, so maybe check back in 4-6 months, to see if there is any news. as black scorps points reinforced, they do try to address concerns of the community when they reasonably can. the key bolded term is reasonable, if i know anything about game design, and its not much, but they tend to lay out plans well in advance, so lean on 6 more than 3 months.
now the bugbear question is, will the solo content be difficult for weak soloers? possible, we saw some of the issues with trap/the honoree, dont know if they really have much they can do if they want it to offer any challenge at all to strong soloing at's, but we will see when we see, anything now is speculation. -
Quote:was there, we were fighting the infinite army of bobcat and getting helped by black scorp. i was the grue that wasnt doing much damageZ's notice went up while a massive Praetorian incursion was being beaten back from the doorstep of Ft. Darwin. I could swear a cheer went up from the combatants, but a moment later, I got DC'ed.
