disagree on the importance of "needing" over "wanting". Back in the early issues i needed other players to fight the neverending and uninspired run of praetorians. they were avs and i could never fight them, particularly ones like marauder who's rage cut through my sr, and his invuln made my martial arts skill pretty much powerless.. then the developers changed things and had av's scale down to ebs on lower difficulties. We still teamed, but for fun, not because it was the only way to do so. I have noticed people running tip teams more. now admittedly a lot of people ghost them, which is their call, but usually i have been able to make groups who just want to have fun, tell intensely non t-friendly jokes and run content together.

so i disagree. min maxers have existed since issue 1 with smoke grenade groups and wolf farms, where a well built tank, some blasters with the bugged smoke grenade or some other trick had the game basically challenge free and the rest of the group was merely to stand there in the back, and maybe bridge a lowbie. casuals still have and will have their place, an min maxers will still be as they had been and shall be till the end of the servers. and the clowns that just show up to tell dirty jokes, fight way over their heads, and make horrid costumes, well, i'm super, thanks for asking.
  2. yeah, actually a freind was going to be moving away, and we did mst3k movie nights(where we watch silly movies and crack wise) so we figured we'd finish on twilight. doing the first twilight movie on a great deal of mt dew and pixie stix lead to some memorable lines. the second one wasnt as good since very little actually happened.

  4. but there arent real and true vampires, 30 days takes as many liberties with vampires as twilight does, it just goes grim and gritty rather than stylized. vampires are an amalgamation of several different folktales and there was no absolute on how they acted, what their weaknesses were, or even if they were physically there or just a miasma coming from the copse of an evil person. same with werewolves. in fact, i felt the werewolves were fairly true to some interpretations of them. i was thrilled they didnt make the lazy special effect mistake of making the bipeds. I know some European variants were bipeds, but overall they worked better as large terrifying wolves.
  5. you know, i hate to defend twilight, but based on what i have seen in the movies, the cullens are the exception. the group under the redhead are psychotic killers and the leadership callously murder a entire group of tourists like a bunch of ambulatory happy meals, so perhaps we are overstating our case a bit.

When reading the book, I exected a different end for Bella (at the hands of Nevel). When I read that moment in the book, I envisioned something a lot, well, MORE. Instead, it was pretty minor.

I was also sad that Kreacher's redemption was left out of the movies. No leagion of house elves coming to help defend Hogwarts. No Grawp showing great heroics. No Centaurs coming to help Hogwarts.
wait, they played THAT down? that was my favorite scene of the entire book. After holding down mrs weasley so long as a kind but fussy worrywart for so long, i thought it was the perfect scene to show that underneath all that kindness and motherliness, she held back the force of a monstrous wizard. dang, they watered down the nevil scee too? that was my second fave scene.

I mean, there takes a lot of patients to pug, and you always talk about how things in Multiplayer ruin your fun. You also sometimes talk about how other players act, or do things, and while Im not trying to be a ****** here, maybe the issue is not with the others.

I mean, I respect you as a forumite and a player of a game I love, and a game which I have numerous issues with, whether it be player side or mechanics, but I don't usually abandon players...nor call them two dimensional idiots. Yes...those people exist, but what if, just for one moment, it's NOT them spoiling the fun? What if it's you?

I dunno, again I mean no disrespect (Which is coming accross as passive agressive I am aware) but I had to learn not to think of MYSELF as NOT a Unique and beautiful butterfly so that I could enjoy the fact that Im playing a game I like, and moreso, that Im not L33t and need to work with the players I am thrown into.

I had more fun when I made the call to just go with the flow, and not against the grain, and my friends who i play with now usually call me by my heroes name, and not names I can't mention here.

If you want people not to abandon you...stop using "Brain Addled Monkeys", "Two Dimensional Idiots" and other such nonsense. Or...take leadership and direct the team, instead of talking about what others are not doing....for YOU!
this is kind of where i am, you bring a lot of negativity to the situation, that has been apparent from a lot of threads you have done about teaming, and you make insulting snap judgements about people quickly. i have bad experiences, i have good ones, i let neither linger too long on me because both have happens and will happen, and move on without internalizing or judging.(other than the one yutz who went afk and then his roommate popped in to tell us he went around the corner to the store, ill judge the @#$% outta him) you could also quit insinuating the story writers are stupid.

really my issue with multiplayer games is actually one of the gameplay, online means latency and fiddly locations of players and enemies due to differences in the network. I often talk about my favorite paragon of single player games, i cant name it, but its a game by tecmo about a ninja, carry the 2. it has very precise gameplay incorporating precise platforming, quick timing and branching combos with a surplus of amazing animations, and freakign throws. no online mmo has come within a mile of that, they feel constrained by their genre, and i find them weaker games. also, stories can progress in single player games, we coudl have stopped the primary rikti invasion, only fighting stragglers, we coudl have croatoa radically changed, we coulhave villain groups appear and vanish, and their actions cause real changes in the world, but its a persistent world, so no dice.

i play mmos for big groups with lots of booms going off and lots of stupid jokes thrown at my teammates for the occasional laugh from them. and because few offline games have a character creator like coh/that one competing game we dont talk about, i play them, but online massive multipayer games, i say nay, nay good sir, they curdle my pallet

That question is like "how often do you beat your wife?" There is no way that I could respond reasonably to a post that started that way.
no, it was actually me asking you if you personally have ever been turned down for a trial, if you had, i would have asked you the circumstance because i have not and would have wanted to know what was making your experience different, i was trying to find out what mitigated the situation, but you read intent into my post and turned it into an attack. i would have also asked you how often. one instance is an anomaly or maybe just a jerk, several instances would indicate some systemic problem. but again, your first instinct was to assume the worse. is asking you if you personally have observed a situation really the same as asking you" how often you beat your wife", is that REALLY a rational comparison between those two questions?

no, my quastion was. "i have not seen this phenomena, could you help me understand it by letting me know if its frequent or widespread among the community, or maybe just localized to some members of the community that might just be idiots. It is something i have never seen in several months of playing on several alts, none of which were remotely min maxed, so it is strange that on a lower population server with a sub-optimal character i haven't seen it." If i claimed soemthign were wrong and affectign the game, and you NEVER in several months had seen it, wouldnt you want more evidence from me before you accepted it as true?

It has been happening. It might not be omni-present (thankfully it isn't), but it is happening. I suspect that it is happening to some degree on every server. I didn't say it was prevalent yet. I said I've seen it starting to happen. Do you see every league formed? I do know that during the last few weeks, I've been on less trials. I've also seen some people get rejected from running trials for various reasons.
ok, do you have anyone else to corroborate this, how often have you seen it verifiably, which people got rejected, have you seen why, was it powersets, behavior, cliquishness? what you have given as support to your grand thesis is that something is wrong, but you only give vague support for it. i havent seen it, leo also stated he didnt, neither did amygdila. can you please give me some reason to believe that this is a significant real issue other than just your word and some very general statements that are difficult to verify? Why have you been on less trials? was it because you saw them being posted, asked to be invited and were turned down? are the common places to team up still being frequented by large groups, but nobody will return your tells when you ask for a group? Do others in your friends circles or chat channels report tryign to get on trials and being turned away because of powersets or shift level? was it because they weren't forming because the initial rush of people incarnating out their characters has finally started to slow down because they have already gotten their t4 and now are off doing other content, so now we are on more of a normalcy relative to the initial rush?

ok so atempting to reason with you is out, its personal attacks then.

I stated that i doubted that the situation was as dire as you stated because on a low population server, over a series of several months, i had never observed ANY of the behaviors you mentioned. Surely if they were actually trending fewer, liberty would be feeling the effects as well, but this is dramatically not the case. if this is happening in other servers it would also be filtering into there, a consistently low pop server. there is no evidence of this, so it is not credible until such evidence becomes apparent.

you know, how often have you been turned down for a trial? what exactly do you mean by snobbery. because i tell you this, if you go on liberty and apply for a trial, and they have room, you will get in. no powerset is excluded, no shift level is excluded. and if you start one, unless you have built a bad reputation on the server or nobody is on, you will get one. these are pug, lib is sure as hell not a large server, but i have incarnated 4 characters up now, and there is no snobbery.

I seriously cannot agree with your comments because they do not resemble reality in any live environment i have played in. are they really this catty in some server? that sounds more like a community issue than a game issue, but if tiny liberty manages to pull off the goods, i have to color myself skeptical.

    Hi everybody!

the name is familiar, welcome back.
  13. well, as a similarly stick in the muddish serious answer. new costume parts. a precedent set by a similarly themed game that went f2p seems to indicate that once the cash shop is in full swing, they feed the beast pretty regularly. so looking forward to spending my vip and discretionary points on more costumes.

beyond that, its time to saddle-up some freebs, giddyup!

If you put a "holy" powerset in the game, you are going to have huge problems with people getting offended all over the place when other people start making religious-themed characters. There's a reason politics and religion are off-limits topics on the forums, and that is the same reason that we most likely won't see a "holy" powerset.

The game doesn't need publicity like that.
not that i disagree that taking explicit stances is unlikely, but you know demon masterminds could be seen to have a religious connotation. even the "dark" powers kind of tread the line, and that is most likely because they seem mildly influenced by the popularity of spawn. as for religious themed characters, maybe your server is different, but there are a buttload of demons and angels on liberty, i now i have 3 there, but that bag has lost its cat 7 years ago.
  16. for these two i largely go with recoloring existing powers. for water i use energy blast and kin melee, and for holy energy blast again, maybe fire melee. mechanically, energy seems to be the opposite of negative energy(most defensive sets that are strong against one show a weakness to the other, much like ice and fire) so that works as well as i have needed.

It is a bit more nuanced than that. i dont think he is saying that no power increases or systems should come in the form of subscription advantages or box sale benefits. rather that you dont sell (as i saw in a bunch of korean freemos i played) additional permanant bonuses on weapons or items that make a real and insurmountable power differential between players who buy from the cash shop and those who just get the rewards theyc an from playing the game. i beleive the term is pay to win, among internet wags.

anyhow, glad to see ec getting love here, its a great show, i never miss it . my only complaint, and they show it a bit here is they are sometimes optimistic to the point of being naive. he does completely ignore the problem of nonstructive gamers who go to f2p games just to disrupt and grief. I dont believe in entirely separating the populations, but one thing i learned back with phantasy star online was that there really exists that subculture and some mitigating steps are required to prevent them from being able to ruin too many people's fun. also great he used a coh shot for community. yeah it was just a crowd shot, but still, it got us visable.

(oh and it bugs me... they call it a raptor...i know some raptors had some feathers, but that is clearly an archaeophetrix.)

  22. ya know, i understand the complaint, but its a common one in mmos for a reason. all information is not given out to the players at one time to give the game a feeling of progression and to add new hooks for content. It can be difficult for rp'ers but its not unusual. your mutant example is something im wondering right now, actually, for one of my praetorian loyalist responsibility characters. his physical appearance is hideous but hes a straight up lawful good type character who initially supports the regime because he wants to do the right thing, as he has been taught since childhood, and hasnt yet learned the darker sides of the equation. now the npc's don't differentiate if you look like brad pitt or a hideous monster, so i'm forced to make an assumption that people are somewhat used to weird looking power division guys, and judge him foremost by the badge, and secondary by the scaly skin, massive claws and red glowing eyes. so while i dont rp myself, it is a question that i have to make a leap of faith on. and its one that might come up later in a future update, so the best i can do is be patient and not too attached to any one thing.

your comment sounds exactly like a comment a friend of mine made about another more medieval game years ago, and no game with a continuing story can cover all bases. lets go further, i have a praetorian that is an angel, what is the state of religion in praetoria? would he be seen as welcomed, or as an enemy o the seeming god-emporer? heck even in primal earth its not mentioned outside of the recently thrown under the bus shadowhunter mission. how do people react to kheldians? its the little details that rpers have to just make a best guess at. but really it is inevitable.
  23. I imagine my reaction is similar. playing an actually evil character and doing things that are evil, even comic book evil, is depressing to me. If i want to see evil win, i'd read forbes magazine, i play for the escapism of watching the people who are above the law find the law kicking them in the face and laying them low. Personal experience varies, but in every game with moral choices, i have never played anything but a full on "good/ paragon/open fist/whatever" character. I bought villains because that was where new content and costume pieces were, and i loved plant based powers, but most of my reds are rogues. and their stories usually paint them as master thieves with hearts of gold or vigilantes who went too far rather than real villains.

One thing i will say is that if one cares about playing a villain or hero or such, the tips and rogue system was a significant boon. some of the better content detailing behavior that was either virtuous or monstrous has been in those stories. cant think of any stories in the game proper or tfs that made me feel like "one good spider". If anything would cause people to play redside for the feel, i'd say that should have been a determiner.
