Quote:i did pre purchase , march 2,2010 i was looking at my emails to see if i could find anything worthwhile., and i never saw that advertised, only discussed informally. if someone can bring up the store page, cool, but until then, he seems to be the only one who recalls seeing it specifically spelled out that incarnates were a part of gr. I await someone posting it.If he SAYS he is quoting the STORE then he is NOT referring to an informal discussion.
Well, you know, the store page is not up any longer, so a cached version or a printout is the only way anyone can prove that it advertised Incarnates. I'm just saying that it is a place to start, for those who have any kind of legitimate claim to having bought Incarnate access (Alpha). -
Quote:ok here again is an important distinction that people are overlooking. We were told at a panal that they were shooting to have a sneak peek at the incarnate system by the developers. they are not advertising, this is the kind of informal communication that a lot of us like from the developers. but we also understand that beta testing is a changeable situation, and the bare bones version of the incarnate system that comprised the sneak peek was rejected by a significant portion of the player community. They didn't say anything about removing alpha until just before open beta, you know quite along time after many people, including myself had already pre-purchased it.
Not pre-ordered it, pre-purchased it, paid for it, bought it from Paragon. At the time of purchase, all information about the product said that Alpha slot was included.
That is part of the changeable nature of beta testing, but the claims made here, that the system was advertised as being part of gr, or that there was FALSE ADVERTISING(as lucky overcapitalizes), are wrong, advertising is more cautious than the informal communications we get at cons, partly for this reason. Those of us who bre bought gr did so for our own reasons, there was no incarnate bonus for pre-buying, so you either wanted the 2 powersets early, or you wanted in the tier 2 beta. both of those were delivered, so there really is no claim of false advertising, the purchase was made before formal advertising had begun, and it was made in good faith for what was provided. some simply did not acknowledge the fine print.
now to reiterate, it was advertized that you needed to purchase a copy of gr to partake in incarnate content, but it was also understood that you had to pay a sub fee to play any of it, so the question simply was never asked if one could have gr, quit paying for access to the game and still have access to incarnates, you either were subbed or not. so its perhaps fairer tos ay that there were 2 preconditions for incarnate access, a sub and a gr purchase, prems satisfy the second but not the first condition, so thats why they dont get incarnates. It doesnt, until he provides evidence of anything written in an actual advertisement, he is only referring to an informal discussion of bonus content that was not included at the request of the playerbase. unless he links to something to the contrary of he recollection of several posters here, there was nothing officially advertised about incarnates or the sneak peek being part of gr. -

oh i got it online, it was preferable since pre ordering got you the 2 power sets. They advertised a "sneak peek" of the incarnate system, as a bonus, not the full alpha, not trial access, as the components came only from existing tf content, not the remiel arc, and certainly not the full incarnate system. the sneak peek was advertized as a bonus, much like the head start on pistols and demon summoning. prems dont get that either, and if you recall, the alpha slot was pulled because of player feedback..i.e. they listened to the playerbase, not because they "@#$%ed up"

Quote:you know, an aside on this topic, as i think its a difference in personal style that causes a lot of conflict, but i suspect some would agree with you, that there should be threads to "vent" and others would say that making threads with no purpose other than to make emotional lash outs and complaints only contributes to the steadily more toxic atmosphere of the forums. I will admit one reason i post so few threads is that i have always felt that in order to start a discussion, there should be something worth discussing, not simply rolling on the floor pounding my fists because something was, to me, subjectively valueless(though this is not saying that I feel it is objectively wrong). I guess i can see the mindset, but its also why so many game related sites become mindless uncivil snipe-fests. the idea that just having a bad attitude about something justifies throwing it as everyonewhereas that seems to describe some people's entire posting philosophy, to complain and scream. Many of the threads on these boards are pointless GG, but people still need a place to vent. It is what it is, I don't blame anyone for their opinion. What I hate is how some choose to express that opinion.
I mean, i can see threads where a problem is brought up and constructive attempts are made to fix it, but just a thread to say," i dont like it" and then aggressively fight with everyone who disagrees strikes me as inherently destructive to the community.
TLDR. its all about styles of expression. -

Quote:a lot of the problem with these statements is that people are discussing things in binary statements that are actually nuanced. there was supposed to be a "sneak peak" of incarnates in gr, i.e. not the whole system at launch but a sort of subscribers bonus. that was pushed back because of some intense discussions about the quality of incarnates introductions. so while an aspect of the incarnate system was originally planned to be included in the launch of gr, it was a bonus, not the official start of the system. furthermore, incarnates have a kind of in between relationship with gr. you needed it to access it, but it was not actually part of the boxed release. The Incarnate System was originally intended to launch with Going Rogue, but was pulled until the next Issue for a reason I can't recall.
this is not that unheard of, various costumes and powers that came out with issue 7 were not technically part of the cov launch, and could not be counted as such but did require it to continue. so technically the devs are correct, you didnt lose what you got at the retail release of gr, you merely lost the additional functionality that gr provided months after its launch. yeah, you see, they would prefer you keep subscribing, thats kinda the point, you get a limited game if you dont, unlike before when you got no game, but you still get the complete game if you subscribe. thats kind of intuitive really. -
rian's martial arts style is a combination of muai thai, tang soo do, capoeria, shaolin 5 animal kung fu, drunken monkey kung fu, hapkido, brazilian jujutsu, and 7 star praying mantis kung fu...not arthritic tae kwon do kicks and some ok punches.
as for things that are funny, i occasionally save people with my triform peacebringer "Pax" who run up and say they want their children to grow up just like him..when he is in the form of a giant flying tapeworm...guess they aren't hung up on grandkids. -
agreed, they are basically scrappers with additional ranged awesome, and if you take the team buffs, you become very popular in teams (even moreso if you double up with leaderships) plus the female wids, with the waist capes, really look amazing. i can dream of more claw options though.
-
well, he can answer for himself, obviously, but i can see why someone might think that. veats are based off existing ingame factions, and looking at soa and widows in the actual game, they are(outside of some concept art for female soa's) rigidly gender segregated. so since playing an eat means you are locked into the story of the epic, it wouldn't be surprising if the game said that soa is an exclusively male group and wids are an exclusively female group.
also, while female soas are pretty popular(i have a mid level one myself), i have only ever seen one male widow in game. maybe they are more popular elsewhere, but at least on liberty they are a rarity. Did male wids ever get buttcapes? females have them, but i recall at the time, it was female only.
dang he fast. -
I would love to have this happen. My suggestion in this vein, to keep it fair for vills, is to have there be a set of missions where your hero discoveres some information that allows them to attack a patron directly and in the course of the mission, take their power. Would love this to happen as soon as possible, really don't want to take my mermaid scrapper redside just to get leviathan powers. maybe also make things fair by letting heroes fight recluse solo, rather than forcing us to do the stf or rv to get a poke at him(or a very lucky safeguard mission)

nonsensical comedy anime, something like bobobo.

I am presuming that its a belt, but those long side sashes(like the higher level death mages), they are amazing and id grab them in a heart beat.

I think coldmed is just jealous because gg usually spells correctly.

agreed, much like the rogues gallery they are interesting new additions that make the world feel lived in and less like a artificial playground for your character. heck, id love to see more npc supergroups get more time period, thos guys form the villain respec, that goofy hero group you fight redside, they give the place flavor.
-
the story is funny, some, including myself, also saw the stars as humorous jokes on specific player types. dillo's the committed rp'er, proton is the mary sue( hence the insane timeline twists and ham-handed links to major canon characters), grimm is the refugee from fantasy mmos, twinshot is kind of the "good teammate" counterpart of flambeaux's prissy obnoxious attention grabber character. at leas thats how i saw them, theories abounded.

I love spring attack, its not a min maxer's power, but for aoe limited builds, it works and it gives me a good thematic power for a very agile martial artist type character. I have used it on my ma, and im looking at it for kin melee and super strength. and for my sj character it will likely be used too. the 2 power picks is rough though, one pick would be better for utility enhancer powers like afterburner and zone teleport. though as per the last ustream, i understand thats a coding issue.

my general take on the powers of incarnates are that they are more a useable form of reality altering material, they can be manipulated by science, magic or intense training, attuning them to some major elemental or philosophical concept. Since all of my incarnated characters are either christians of some form or one shiavistic hindu. so none of them would incarnate a specific divine outside of their faiths.
rian 's power increase draws from him using the iincarnate power to allow the dragon he was magically bonded with to express more of its physical power, making him less human and more dragon-like.
seraph blue is an angel, so her incarnating is simply her becoming a better vesal for the powers of an abrahamic interpretation of God.
atomic angel is simply ascending her consciousness closer to shiva and views her new powers as her gaining the abilities of creation and destruction from him.
violet tendencies is using the reality altering properties of the wells substance to change the "will of the earth" infection that the crey scientists gave her to something now a direct part of her that she can consciously control. in a sense, she is becoming a kind of a second hamidon. Though she maintains control because she is driven by her desire for social justice, rather than hamidons desire for destruction of humanity.
space robot 5 is using the power to alter his basic mechanical makeup to better commune with the nameless entity that gave him consciousness and a soul.
finally dire worg is finally more of a psychological change, having crushed lord recluse and brought about "justice" and freed himself from the guilt that drove him to become a villain in the first place. he now has used the well to turn himself into an incarnate of justice, which he views himself as a physical embodiment of. basically he keeps growing to fight bigger criminals. -
actually, celestial does have me kind of conflicted. i got it, woo, looks amazing. but it is a very long time commitment to gate costume stuff behind. i thought boxing was excessive, this is twice as long as boxing was. Its a great set, i love it, but I'd really rather that any art assets be available to everyone(even if gated by content, though i realize thats not cool with everyone) but i am concerned with the "rotating rewards" thing. more stuff like this, as great as this seems like it might actually depress some players, its looks nearly unattainable, heck, i'd be ticked if i hadn't gotten it. just some food for thought for any reading dev, lets make sure everyone can enjoy the fruits of your work, i dont need exclusive stuff in return for being here 7 years, i got to play for those 7 years thats all the reward i need. its better for the community to not do this, in my opinion, natch.

i have 500 pts left, got beam rifle, barbarian and 3 of the dances I didnt get from the party pack. I'm taking my time on things, no rush here, there will be money in time, but for now, I dont NEED anything else. some more costumes and powers come down the pipe, we will see how things go, cot and gunslinger will be bought, so will street justice, titan weps and if..in theory..they make a staff set, i'd be willing to check that out. but the key to my cash is costumes, they may act accordingly if they want.

Quote:ditto, i was happy to see that this seemed to be where dave and crew snuck in the more muscular option( as best he could without adding polygons which would have made it a much more complicated affair)When I noticed that female Barbarian piece was sporting a muscular midriff, the first thing I thought was "I bet Sam'll be happy to see that!".
glad to hear things are better, now on to seeing titan weapons. I may seem to never get mad at the devs, but I just tend to view it in the context of the whole of gaming i have dealt with. Stuff will be good or bad, and if you beat yourself up over that little bit that doesnt fit, it only drives you nuts. it hurt my enjoyment of an unnamed bethesda game because they didnt have pole-arms, and it cost me enjoyment that's not going to come back, ever. you can affect some decisions, but the majority are going to be already made and have significant money and time resources into making stuff, stuff that jsut cant be changed. I had to quit investing myself in every battle or i'd lose all enjoyment of gaming. still want new alt anims for martial arts though, collin, i'm lookin at you.
