Quote:We have an arcane divisions within Scorpio that deals with the mystical/extraordinary in a BPRD (hellboy) sort of manner. I'll even share our super secret new page we're working on. (We're rebuilding our Division pages right now).I'm interested in RPing something likie fringe/xfile/warehouse etc.
I've really gotten into these shows lately where the character are unting for something mystical/extraordinary or a mix of both
I was wondering if there were any RP groups like that, if you have one you can PM with whats your groups about or post it here...ty
S.C.O.R.P.I.O. Arcane-Ops
Arcane-Ops is also tied with the Psi-Ops group as an overall Paranormal unit. We're actually doing an story right now for Halloween. -

Quote:Not sure, but that would be a good question to ask Manticore.A recent thread made me realize what kind of goldmine we have here.
Some of the most interesting characters from any genre reside in Paragon City/Rogue Isles.
My specific questions are;
Who actually created Nemesis and his back story?
Who actually created the Freakshow and gave them life?
I thumbed through the Manticore Lore thread but that seems to be dealing with the in-game lore, I'm curious as to the behind the scenes part.
Was Nemesis a collaboration? Did one Dev play a huge role in the creation of his backstory?
Kudos to them!
I'd just like to know who weaved together such a wonderful villain.
Was it all Manticore? Did Jack have his 'vision' with this one?
Anyone know?
From what I understand the universe was a collaborative effort though I'm sure different people worked more on different things.
I'm sure Nemesis was probably part of the original story bible, since he's mentioned in the history going back fairly far. He's most likely been a collaborative effort in regards to his nuances and plots. -
Ah always something for people to whine about.
Patience children, its a virtue. The event will go live at the time they specified. Sometimes its been early (zombies last year were early with a massive invasion kickoff by the devs). Sometimes its on time.
People complain regardless.
I personally can't wait to get off work. -
*dryly* How can you possibly miss the mentor and lackey leash game.

Quote:We did it in about an hour I think so yeah it went fast and was actually fun.Key item to note: there are only 4 Particle Cannons and these are the *ONLY* weapon that can hurt the head. You want these to go to the 4 toughest people you have because they need to stand right in the head's face (?) and survive multiple excruciatingly long firing animations.
You can identify exactly what each glowie contains (particle or thermite cannon) by 'clicking on it' from far away. The type of weapon will show up in your targeting window.
P.S. What server? I consistently run this in under 45 minutes but I only have characters high enough level on Infinity. I'd be happy to tag along, offer advice, run the show, whatever.
P.P.S. I have a massive set of keybinds I set up with explanations and instructions for various points during the trial. I'll post them here when I'm at my gaming system.
I had a particle cannon on my Mind/Emp troller without a problem, but again we had a really good Dark Armor tank and a Invuln Tank. -
Quote:I just ran this recently after hearing all the doom and gloom about how hard is. We had a very fun run honestly and it wasn't to hard so here is the advice I can offer.I'm going to try the Abandoned Sewer Trial soon and I'm all ears if you have any advice. One thing I'm especially curious about: is the actual Big Giant Head subject to debuffs? Can a tar patch reduce its damage resistance and speed things along? Do the particle cannons obey the usual rules about damage buffs? Can you speed things along with fulcrum shift?
I've only tried this trial once before and it did not go well, so I'd be happy to get some advice.
If you can bring along a WP or DA tank. They have resist to Psi and they can keep the hydra busy while you work on the other areas.
Bring someone with recall and a rez. Make sure you bring someone for team buffs and a troller or two wouldn't hurt.
Keep everyone organized. Know who got what temp power and make sure everyone knows what their role will be for that temp. Also make sure they know NOT to click on more then one glowie.
Explain everything ahead of time, before you even enter the silo. The wiki entry on the Sewer Trial has everything you need to know.
But here is what we did:
- Take your time descending down the silo, get all glowies and don't let anyone leave the platforms. If they do and die this is when having a tper with a rez comes in handy. Kill all of the Rikti, keep an eye out for baby krakens, it will take a team effort to take them out.
- Clear out the tentacles with the Thermite cannon while your tank keeps the hydra occupied. Once tentacles are down clear out the baby Krakens guarding the entrances to the force field generators.
- Clear the force field generators but don't take down the generators themselves. Have everyone keep to the sides and out of LoS of the Hydra as they can.
- Once the Rikti are cleared from the generators split your team into groups of two, then on the count of three from the team leader take down the generators. One person in each group of two should announce their generator is down.
- Attack the Hydra Immediately. Anyone with the particle Canon should be hammering away at the Hydra at all times.
- Make sure you have a scrapper or a second tank ready to intercept the Rikti Ambush. This will happen as soon as the force field comes back up.
Once that ambush is defeated then rinse and repeat from clearing the generators. For us it took three times, it can take up to 5 if the generators aren't coordinated well. But overall I found it fun and not too hard.
Just make sure everyone knows the gameplan and you keep them aware of whats going on. -
Quote:I get crafting rage...You know, I can understand a certain... Premium for the lazy. But if the combined price for the components and crafting fee is, say, 5 million, the crafted item going for 13 million is just, well, a bit goofy.
Its also why I stick to commons. I just buy the crafted commons as I need them and completely ignore everything else unless I'm just selling things I pick up.
Anything beyond that I bribe my other half to do crafting slotting for me.
The whole process just annoys me, its like being at work with the spreadsheets and the components, and market finagling... and things not being available, or buying the wrong thing or to many of something, or grrr
I'll pay the premium I'm loaded anyways -
Quote:As a level 40 character if you joined a level 2 sewer team you would be exemplared down to level 2, you would receive powers up to level 7 (so your powers up to level 7 would be available for use), and you would receive the XP of a level 40. So if at 40 you normally get 1K xp for a white minion you'd receive 1K xp for a white minion.I read the description of super sk from the I16 notes but I am getting conflicting information from players in the game.
I keep getting invites from players 10 levels lower and they say that I will get the same XP and have all the powers as if I play at my real level.
This makes no sense as it would mean a lvl 40 could join a lvl 2 sewer team and mop the floor of low lvl bad guys but get the XP of a lvl 40 character.
Could someone explain the rules or post a link?
Thanks!
But you would be effectively fighting as a level 2. -
I'm pretty sure the Mercy music is in that list, I have it on my MP3 player. Good luck finding it, there are quite a few good clips in the link SunGryphon provided.

Quote:Well most of the shorter stories I write that cater specifically to our group are only ever published for a very short period of time. For some of the longer arcs I tried to make them so that anyone, theoretically, could play them and enjoy them.I try to go out of my way in the mission description that the mission I am publishing is almost useless to anyone but those in our group/circle. I want to avoid having people stumble into my arcs and feel lost or slighted by what they find. They are playable missions of course, but without the context, I am sure the story seems jagged and at times, incomprehensible.
I concur with ransim, that more maps would be ideal. Really designing very simple ones, would be ideal. Most of all, deciding where things are on a map is critical. I am constantly getting burned by the "front, middle, back" locations and randomization. Last Sunday, we had to back up two floors on a map to find a key NPC, when that NPC was tagged to appear at the "back".
I was on a thread, way back about using AE for strictly insular purposes was legitimate. Some people were arguing building missions only for specific groups, was both selfish and elitist. I disagree. I think this is the tool's greatest strength, and it would be foolish not to cater the content to a specific audience. Sure, you can build great generic content as well, but it seems to me you are just adding more logs to an already large wood pile.
As a GM for decades, I can tell you, in my experience the best adventures eventually cater and bend to the will of their players. It gives the players a greater sense of control and a greater sense of immersion. So I think using AE to cater to small groups, is a great use of the tool.
But you're absolutely right, in a group setting creating content for your group isn't selfish. If it was having separate super groups with arguably its own story and content would be selfish. MA just gives us a more interactive way of telling stories or getting members involve in stories.
I think beyond maps I'd love to see more advanced types of "events" in MA missions, like ambushes by a non-aggressive mob that says a few lines then disappears. I'd love a bit more control over how/where things spawn, and the ability to put more detail on items as needed. But I know and assume a lot of this gets to be a bit more custom then they could easily add into the MA interface.
But absolutely for groups, especially those into stories and group events MA is a godsend. -
There is a fairly large sized list of SG's in a Virtue Thread.
You can also check out VirtueVerse if you're looking for a RP group, there are plenty listed there as well. -
Quote:This, though I'm not much of a fantasy fan. I'd love to see more dynamic content. But really what keeps me with CoX is it doesn't seem to require the time sink to be fun. The other games I've tried seem to involve this massive time sink before the game is even remotely fun.I always feel like this when I try another MMO. I don't know, I guess I was pretty lucky to try City of Heroes as my first MMO, but every time I try another, all I can think about is "Why doesn't it have this?" "Man, I wish I could do that!" I've tried a lot of them, and it seems like pretty much all other MMOs are cut from the same block. How and why is too long to discuss, but suffice it to say it's a big thing.
Here's the thing, though - we have it pretty good here. Sure, people always complain, but we have a LOT of things here that we take for granted and never appreciate... Until we play a game that doesn't have them. It just never fails. It's really the many small things that truly make the game for me, and why I don't buy into marketing that it's "like City of Heroes, only better" because even if it has new stuff, there's no guarantee it has the good old stuff.
And as to the Fantasy content subplot, I agree - a fantasy zone or faction would be nice. Comic books in general and City of Heroes in particular have a pretty broad genre. We have a lot of contemporary and sci-fi elements, but are relatively light on the more fantastic of Fantasy elements. Having a bit more couldn't hurt.
I just don't want to come home to a slog, I work a lot I want to hop in, have some fun, then hop out without feeling I need a commitment like I owe my workplace. -
Quote:SS on my Kat/Regen works fine, even managed to complete this with my AR/Dev blaster.Never failed that one. As long as you have some form of Stealth it can be completed in half the time they give you.
Just takes common sense and being stealthy enough to find the glowies and/or take out any mobs you need to without over aggroing the map.
I would love to see the Get the News Out mission fixed because in concept its fun, by design however its not because of reasons everyone else has already aptly described. -
We use MA a lot for SG stories and events with SCORPIO. The two arcs I currently have published were created specifically for SG Events. Honestly it makes RP more interesting, especially being able to create one off custom missions for a specific story setting that isn't as readily available in game.
I personally wish there were more RP-esque maps, like an apartment building or a house. Small one or two room maps like some of the mayhem/safeguard maps. -

Quote:May be worth talking to customer support about. Its possible the opt in/out function isn't functioning properly or there is some setting preventing people from receiving it. Could be a issue with a email host blocking it. I'm personally on Gmail and always get them myself.Same here, though I never opted out, etc. I USED to get the newsletters, but no longer. 'Tis a puzzlement.
But if you've checked the spam filter and made sure you were allowing email from that address and you're opted in I'd contact support. -
Quote:Its a lot of fun red side. I've heard its a slog villain side though I haven't done it since it was on test and it was a slog then.Figured as much. Just wasn't sure. Took a sebattical back in Feb 09, and just came back last weekend.
But its quick and a blast to do hero side. Definitely check it out if you get a chance, we try to run it periodically with the SG because.. well beating up natzis is fun. -
Quote:First thing I suggest is making sure your email account isn't blocking emails from newsletters@ncsoft.com.I always hear about people who get email alerts or special emails from City of that tells them about special things to come or asks for their help in polls and so forth and for the longest time I thought maybe it was because I was a new person to the game....but now that I have been on for over two years and have went through the forums and added my name and such to the list of people who have not recieved anything from them I am wondering what is up. My account is updated with current email address for the company and I still do not get anything from them? So I figured maybe others who are having the same issue could post here and maybe that will shed some light. I searched to see if it was a topic and didnt see it. Thanks all.
If you aren't then log onto your account as http://www.plaync.com, go to your Account profile and update your Contact Information. The Newletter opt in/out is there. -
I think this largely depends on the time of day and how close to an issue/patch it is.
I've had both excellent experience and face palming "wat?" moments too with support. Having worked in support myself I know a lot of this is also on the user as well. Vague/nondescript or seriously confusing requests or questions, or just being snowed under.
So I try myself to be a bit more understanding when I petition and it takes a hour or longer sometimes the next day before I get a response. But really this shouldn't be here, if you have a real issue or complaint the best way to handle it would probably be a PM directly to Niviene or Ghost Falcon.
Everyone always has something to complain about, and this just generally isn't constructive other then giving people a place to flame.
It does seem however they are trying to make some changes to how things are done so its more even for the EU players. So they do recognize there is an issue. Whether related to that or not I don't know. -
-
Actually I knocked off the last thing I had never done two weeks ago.
I'd never even tried a sewer trial, so grabbed people from Scorpio and ran it, was surprisingly easier then I was warned about and a lot of fun.
I don't count the shard trials I've never done either, I don't hate myself that much. >_< -
Well at least the teaming wasn't just me I was worried maybe my toon was bugged.
Didn't have an issue using the trainer, only saw the waypoint issue crop up with the detective in Faultine, I already had the ability to call Flux in the Hollows before we left there.
The waypoint issue and the teaming stuff could be a fairly big issue. As a vet I recognized it as a issue and mitigated around it, but I can't imagine how someone brand new to the game might react to either situation. Definitely would have thrown me when I first started playing. -
I noticed these in game last night, they happened multiple times but I honestly don't know what was causing it or if I could reliably reproduce it.
I was running missions with my Level 14 Scrapper. We had a level 16 a 10 and I think a 12. We were doing missions in the hollows however whenever I invited someone instead of seeing their name and location in a box on the team list it was just a black bar. Sometimes zoning fixed it, sometimes not, I actually had to reform the team once. Unfortunately I also couldn't screenshot it because of vista and ctrl + shift + prtscrn doesn't work for the game. But it was definitely not functioning normally.
The other is that later on while in Faultline I tried to set a way point on the Detective. However it wasn't showing up. I had to navigate there manually. At the time I was the only team member in zone. However once I got a mission it showed up with a way point as normal.
I wanted to bug the team issue but I wasn't even sure how to describe it, not even sure I described it well here. Its like the person was on the team, but not I don't even think they could see team chat till zoning fixed it or we all dropped team and reformed.
