You've obviously never spent any time on the CO forum. The level of knee-jerk defense over the smallest of things is absolutely insane. Even if both games draw on the same source for inspiration - dual pistols, for example - I guarantee there will be backlash malestrom on the CO forum tearing into CoX for ripping off their pet game. It's hilariously paranoid and that's even without going into the ridiculous level of "CO = COX DEATH" remarks that were hanging around a few months ago.

Jesus christ, four years registered and only six posts. I am in awe, good sir.

Man, I dread to think how badly this community would over-think if two NPCs with the name 'Bob' appeared next patch.

Quote:I c u wut u did that.Seems rather asinine to be judging people without fully considering when such notes are justified.
Too bad the people who were harping on about 'SG ONLY ROOLZ' never bothered explaining it like that, and/or seemed hellbent on believing me to preach use of the 'Decline Team Invites' option rather than the explicitly named 'Not Looking For Team'.
I dunno. Shrug. -
Quote:Never said it wasn't valid. I said it was rather asinine - a bit pointless. If you're going to team with SG mates, chances are you're going to be - y'know - getting invites from them, rather than using the LFT tool.Because perhaps the character is NOT "not accepting invites"... perhaps the character is willing to accept invites FROM THEIR SG? Gosh... that's pretty amazing to think of.
The default search flag is "not seeking"... it's perfectly acceptable to put reasons why you're not seeking teams in your search comment and not change your flag. "SG character" is a perfectly valid reason why a character would not be seeking teams.
I dunno, maybe it's just an amazing shock that people don't need stuff spelled out for their Supergroup members. -
Quote:...so why not simply use the 'Not Looking For Team' option? If someone ignores that, then they're going to ignore 'SG Only' as well. Seems really asinine to plonk that in the comment, imo. There really is a simple explanation for this and I'm surprised no one has brought it up.
I have lots of toons and most of them will team with anyone. But I have one toon that is reserved for playing with RL friends we only get play together for a couple of hours every Tuesday. His search comment is SG Only because he is an SG only toon. -

Quote:She's actually being lambasted for creating a solo-centric build and thus not being able to support a team she joined. The player didn't take the expected powers and now is being lambasted for their decision to be different.
/edit before people start shrieking about how awesome they do with snowflake builds: Just pointing out that the OP's complaint wasn't the 'RAR DEATH TO INDIVIDUALS HIVEMIND IS SUPREME' bollocks Shocker insists it was. -
Nope. Blizzard will even shut down player run gambling rings, as they risk creating a mess for the company. Really, 'companies just do it' is a horribly naive stance to take - one that really doesn't seem to grasp just how fickle and broad the law can be in these circumstances. I mean there's not even age checks on these things, which in itself can open a **** storm if brought up in court.

Easily dismissed by the rampant selling of influence. If even Blizzard won't tread on this landmine, there's a good reason for it.
Also, I don't think you know what 'jumping the shark' actually means. -
But we ARE dealing with SOMETHING that has LAWS against IT, and NCSOFT have to UPHOLD them, whether or NOT people LIKE it.

Quote:No, you should make a concept that fits the game rather than awkwardly jamming in something different for the sake of itself. As Sam says, it's a hilarious cop-out, and gets absolutely pathetic when you start actively rewriting content to fit a concept. You're no longer taking part in the storyline, you're just god moding - selectively choosing the bits that support your concept and ignoring everything else.
But how is it a Cop-out if i simply don't enjoy playing Villainous Characters? Should I ignore almost half of the game for the sake of enjoying Heroic characters...?
But hey-ho, I know the type. No point arguing beyond that. -
Quote:Pretty much this.As to playing villains who are secretly heroes - no, I don't. It's a cop out in my eyes, as there's a whole other city for them. Getting over my moral high ground and making a villain who is both clearly evil and still cool as an antagonist is something of a challenge to my writing skill.
I've yet to come across a single 'I R REELY HERO' villain who does it convincingly - the swath of them who insist you can't identify who they are because they're wearing a slightly different mask is beyond irritating. Similar with 'I R REELY VEELUN' characters Blue side. I don't know about you, but being known for the murder of an entire PPD division only to get training from Ms.Liberty is pretty ******* stupid. -
Dunno about you but I'm looking at a pretty big ******* message about pre-ordering GR, with suitably large promotional images about it.

I asked for a little Influence help from a friend because I only had 40k of the bloody stuff at level 23 (no idea how). He dropped one-hundred million on me, and said it was nothing.
wtf. -

I hope I'm doing this right.
If anyone can add tags they think I might have missed that'd be great; not sure how many of the damn things there even are. I'll also add a full history to the page later on, as right now I'm really not in the mood for even more writing. D: -
I don't see why this can't have been posted in the thread it links to. Maybe the fear of a self-vindicating paradox is too much, or something.
-
Were you actually using them? Had a lot of self-proclaimed healers stand around like morons or plink away with their attacks while team mates are dropping all over the place.

Yaaaaaaargh. Okay, one week on I have an incredibly burning question to ask:
What is with all the purple bloody prose in character descriptions? People seem to have an incredible habit of rambling on for about five paragraphs talking about war, suffering, loss, etc etc, without telling you anything about the character. It bugs the living goolies out of me, and smacks of pretentiousness - even if some of these folk are really quite lovely. -
Uh, read a few posts above. A lot of people in the chat were taking the piss out of this guy. He's thin skinned, but the ones doing the taunting are utter twats for ganging up like they did.
-
Pretty much what's been said already. Unfortunately it didn't help that he's aimed some very snooty comments at CoX since he began work on Champions Online, which have been somewhat undermined by him making the very same mistakes on that project as well.
He had a tendency to listen to nobody but himself, and learn very little as a result. -
i.e. People who have a normal, regular EU timezone to contend with, rather than the god-awful backwards nonsense these Americans subscribe to.
Currently I'm involved with a group of very nice people that have given me a great outlet for one character, the problem is they're playing and roleplaying in a timezone that makes it impractical for me to do much alongside them any more than once a week. Naturally I'm a bit unhappy with the situation as I would really, really like to have at least some EU-friendly people to doss around with. I have no intention of leaving the group, of course, but will be rolling a couple of additional characters during the week.
So. How many of you play by GMT, between 4-10pm?
Red or Blue side is fine, I just really need a starting point. Pocket D scratches the RP itch but I tend to blunder into different people every couple of evenings: nice but makes long term attachments and the like fairly difficult to maintain. Anyone out there in this situation? -
Quote:So, yeah. It's those who admit what they're after, and those who have to be pretentious about. S'what I said. :PERP: They're in it for the cyber.
MRP: They tend to be a bit graphic for a regular comic book. I've seen MRPers that had no desire to Cyber and had their characters capture and torture other PCs. Not always though. Mostly it means they will react realistically when compared to comic books. I like to think of the difference between MRP and regular RP is the difference between Watchmen and Justice League.
