  1. thanks for those links especially the one for the graphics cards. I tried playing after posting and the game looked much better with my old card maybe playing with the settings might help but it just doesn't seem to work as well.

The processor I thought would be an upgrade and to Dells credit I did some other things that are better than the previous system but I think I am still going to try to get them to bump up the video card
  2. So my Dell xps 710 finally died and they decided give me an Alienware Aurora as a replacement which is supposed to be of equal or greater value. I honestly can't tell if what I got (mostly looking at the processor and the video card) is equal or greater so hopefully someone here can set me straight. The xps system is 3 years old so please keep that in mind when comparing. The

    Original system

    Intel Core2 Duo processor E6700 (2.66Ghz,1066FSB) w/DualCore Technology and 4MB cache 1

    768MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 1
    Ageia PhysX Processor 1

    The replacement system came with

    Processor, I3-530, 2.93, 4MB, Clarkdale, 73W, C2
    Radeon HD 5670
  3. Hi all just looking for some friendly advice on a good lap top for playing COH (It will be used for work stuff as well but thats just normal reports and spreadsheets) that won't be more than 1,000 max. I saw the one below on Tiger Direct (never dealt with them before but they seem to have good reviews) for $799 and I'm wondering if this may be a good way to go.

  5. I'd be happy to show folks around the space station base as well as the Volcano base on Virtue assuming Turbo doesn't object (and I can't imagine he would). @Dr. Mind Bender is my global.
  6. One quick side note as Pyro is one of my favorites as well... if you want to get as close as possible to matching his powers from the comics you might want to try a fire/fire dom. That allows you the fire blast and fire melee mix... in addition to the fire control pyro has even down to creating little flaming creatures (imps).

Other than that welcome to the game.

If not defeated in a certain amount of time (20-30 minutes?), 8 random Praetorian Guard members (excluding Tyrant) show up as a team and take down the GM. Once they do that, they stick around for poses and autographs while local citizens gather and cheer, before returning to Tyrant's tower (either travel powers, teleport (probably easiest way), or by using Walk animation).

I just started a MA/SR Bat-Girl homage. She will get stealth and weapons mastery. Not sure if I will take the power stealth or just use an IO or both... I am thinking just the IO will do. While I agree Ninjitsu is pretty close to Batman I think the scrapper still covers all the bases needed.

Now, I too have never been a big fan of this, and I remember saying to myself "Boy, if I could make the game spawn nothing BUT even con enemies, I probably would." That was before the new difficulty settings, of course, as now my solution is to just drop them to -1 and go from there.

Personally, I've always felt it was done to add a bit of diversity to the spawning mechanics. Right now... I've no idea what spawn composition is after the difficulty settings, but before on Tenacious, the even con spawns came in exactly three varieties - five (which mutated to six) minions, a lieutenant and four minions and two lieutenants and a minion. That's it, that's all. That can grate sometimes, especially if the RNG gets stuck doing only one kind, so I'm sure they threw in the three or so more +1 spawns just to shake things up a bit. The problem with that was... Well, post purple patch, a spawn of +1s is actually quite a step up in difficulty for a lot of builds with how accuracy drops off and enemy offensive power scales up.

They even had what I can only assume were legitimately "front-loaded" and "back-loaded" missions. Anyone still remember those? You'd enter a mission and find the enemies all -2 and someone on the team would go "Oh, it's backloaded!" or you'd enter a mission, find all enemies +2 to +3 and someone would clasp his hands and go "Oh, GOD I hope this is frontloaded!" They removed this, but at least part of the idea behind it (provided it was intentional) seems to have been to add variety.

That said, I'd rather have a little less variety if it meant keeping all enemies in the band of difficulty I'm comfortable with. It was bad enough meeting a nasty +1 lieutenant with a minion before, but at least then +1 spawns were smaller. Now the biggest spawn your difficulty can generate could show up as +1, and that just plain sucks. If I could keep all enemies spawning as even con (or -1), I would.
After reading through the entire thread let me say first that Samuel you've done a good job of pointing out why you believe this should be changed. (I won't say fixed since unless I missed it we still haven't gotten word on if this is WAI)

A couple of things jump out to me first I don't know that its fair to compare the current options to the previous options since we know for sure (based on I believe your post of a red name response) the old settings can not exactly be duplicated anymore.

With that removed the next thing to me would be to look at your settings and ask have you tried changing those around a bit more. I was thinking -1/team 3 bosses yes. That may still have bosses in almost every spawn but at -1 may make them much easier to take down while still giving you armys of minions to take out.

For me I love the new settings and hope they are WAI and that they will remain as they are. I am all for additional options being added that allow you to customize your missions to your taste a bit more but as even you admit we now have more options than we did before and I can't imagine you think we should take a step backwards.

Lets all unite under the banner of adding more options not taking current options away.

Maybe those with a gun but a dual pistols person will look pretty cool with ninja run.

I believe the Taunt effect that gets translated to scrappers is only in powers that provide a direct mitigation benefit to the scrapper. That seems to be the design principle that guides the devs, based on what we have seen.

I believe this is why the damage auras (and Evasion) for scrappers do not Taunt.
IF the question is why is it some scrapper secondaries get taunt effects and others don't please see above. I wish I could remember which red name it was but of course that was quite some time ago. If I do recall correctly though a red name stated they only added taunt to powers that buff the scrapper. So if you get a damage buff based on enemys being near you the devs offset that buff with the taunt aura. The taunt almost being used as a penalty to balance the buff.

I wouldn't mind seeing this looked at but I doubt this will ever change.
  16. This may sound odd but I am not a fan of this version of mog... Generally speaking I found the old version better for the times I really used it. For the most part my current build has enough going for it that I rarely if ever use mog. In PVE I've found my build more than able to take a beating. It could be better by a long shot but I really am on the fence about dropping Mog at least for a little while to see if I miss it.
  17. I have to agree with the OP here. I know on one occasion I have gone into the store and couldn't recall which boosters I already had and which I still needed. By the end of that trip I ended up buying and applying the science booster which of course I later learned I already had. It was no biggie as its not much money but I can't see where having a list of purchased/applied game codes could be a bad thing. Or even having the site check and confirm you really want to purchase that item twice.

As players too we could easily break an 8 man team into teams of 2 or 3 but that never seems to work. I tried an ITF where I split the team into 2 teams of four and both were doing just fine until one person said "Team split!" and ran back to me because I had the star and I was a tanker. The players are just as guilty as the developers into not making things more dynamic.

You'd average higher damage if you completed the Mako's Bite set in Hack.

Integration has a higher base to work from, so I'd at least swap the Fast Healing and Integration slotting.

I'd pick up a couple more 5% recharge bonuses. Maybe Crushing Impacts instead of Mako's Bites?
I agree with the Crushing Impacts I just haven't been able to afford them.

I wasn't sure about finishing the Mako set in Hack but its worth another look. Same with Fast Healing and Integration I will take another look there.

Werner- That's pretty useful. Normally i just go for a quick kill & keep Parry for if they survive.

So there's no fan's of Numina's here? It is kinda pricey though. i almost can't blame you. i do enjoy the set bonuses though.

Dave- it'd be pvp mostly, though i wouldn't mind something that i could use in either..

    Thanks guys.
I should say I don't pvp much and haven't since the last set of sweeping changes to it. Prior to that with very little skill on my side I found that I was a very hard kill for anyone who didn't have -regen they could apply. I might take him for a spin to see how well he does in pvp but I know there are much better pvp build folks out there.
  21. I'm kinda suprised to see nobody had any comments for my build. Is that a good thing or a bad thing I wonder?

But i obviously need more. i have Mid's Hero Designer, i just wanted to get sugguestions before i get deep into it since i've never stacked a toon up before. My idea was to get my regen & heals soft capped (almost there already) & then try to bring my damage output as high as i can get it, since regen kinda needs to use the blaster defense to stay alive.
i took the Fitness & Superspeed pools, didn't take anything from Fighting. Also have Conserve Power from Body Mastery. i was planing on getting the Portal Jockey, Freedom Phalanax Reserve, & maybe the TF Commnader Accolades.
    So, any ideas?

    Thanks
Well I'm at work so its hard for me to give you real detail but I would never use the Numina set for Reconstruction. My BS/Regen is IO'd up (no purples) and uses doctored wounds for all his heals. The slotting there gives a nice boost to recharge and than there is a recharge set bonus. It helps that DW is much cheaper than Numina as well.

When I get home from work I will post my mids build for my scrapper. There are more powerful builds I'm sure (especially since I am not using any purples) but I get a ton of compliments on my Scrapper.
  24. Well let me start off by saying Thank You to Turbo for all his work on the base it truly is outstanding. Looking at that slide show it hit me I had already forgotten how most of the base looked before. The new set up literally made me forget most of what that base looked like for over a year so thats some good work.
