I ran ultra mode with a Core 2 Duo E6600 and a 5670 card at 1920x1200. It was able to run Ultra Mode a minimal settings.
Now with a 5770 that Core 2 Duo E6600 runs Ultra Mode well at mid level settings.
Your core 2 must have something wrong with it.You sure its not a P4 with a core 2 badge.

Running 11.1a now. It actually runs slower in terms of FPS.
About 10% slower since I was getting around 60fps with 11.1 and 10.12 but am getting 54 now. I still see lag spikes when I open wentworths, trade or contacts windows but now only down into the 19 FPS range instead of the 11 FPS range.
I haven't had any problems with crashes (like I did with 10.10 and 10.11)but I do see the graphical spikes still. -
Quote:I'd probably just yank the higher priced rig temporarily or use AMD. Although with AMD's Bulldozer coming out soon I'd more inclined to spend as little as possible.Glad I didn't push the Sandy Bridge rig out to replace my P55 one. Now I really have to find a replacement 1156 MB for my high price rig now that the MSI P55 MB is gone for good.
This is a double problem with motherboard manufacturers because it looks as if they stopped manufacturing P55 motherboards to get a jump on the P67 ones so they don't have any stock of the old stuff, in the popular configurations, to ship. Intel's going to be compensating a lot of OEM manufacturers 1st quarter income. -
Yep and newegg just yanked all of the recalled MBs off the site.
There are still some 6Gb only MBs still for sale. -
Yep, and I was just about to order a Sandy Bridge too. Now the boards are going to be recalled.
Its like the 1156 boards with the bad sockets again. -
Heh, i7-870 is still a nice bump over the Phenom.
Heh, you should at least repair the old system so you can 2 box CoH. or sell it to one of us tech junkies. -
Personally, I think the i5-2500K is the chip to get. At just over $215 (or $180 if you are lucky to live near a Microcenter) I'll probably be picking that one up soon. Ok, I'll probably look hard at the 2600K.
Yeah, I am a recovering tech junkie.

Quote:Well, things seem to run smoother with less of the lag when I open up trade window at WW. I don't see as much single digit FPS now. I guess I can run around with showfps up. Last time I did ingame I was getting 58fps most places with the odd lag spike down into the mid 20s.Those of you with ATi cards, has anything made it into this patch to address the crashing and horrible FPS with drivers newer than 10.9?
ATI 6870 w/ 10.12 -
This is why I like having a capable backup.

Hmm. This machine seems *dated* given newer hardware came out.
Sandy Bridge CPUs are quite nice and for intel fairly inexpensive. The Nvidia GTX 480 has already been replaced by the GTX 580. Do you really need water cooling?
Windows 7 Pro is probably the most I would get. Ultimate probably doesn't do you any good and Pro would even be debateable. Home Premium would probably be enough for you.
This is a pretty pricey setup, probably in the $3000 range. I'm sure most of the hardware people here could set you up with something faster for less.
This computer would be waaay overkill for CoH. Heck my 4 year old E6600 has no problems with CoH.

Any advice i what i should take off or get differnt would be appricated. Im not a computer export or anything like that. but i love playing this game and wanting to upgrade to a much better comp. I have seen alot of gaming comps that have a 2 hard drives 1 sshd for the video cards and the main 1 for all other storage and im not sure about the mother board. -
I just updated my Nvidia drivers last night and I am still getting 31 FPS or so just like I did with 260.99 with my GTX 260.
Quote:Has anyone else taken a hit to game performance with this driver?
I am goign to try a clean install and see what happens. With everything maxed out (literally) at 1920*1200 2x aa 2x af I was able to get playable frame rates (for me in this game 15-20 fps)
After the driver install I am getting 5 fps in some out door zones.
Just me or has anyone else dropped performance with this driver? -
Quote:e6300 is still a decent CPU. You would probably find a market for the CPU, mem and MB. 9800 GT? Not so much....I had a feeling that the Phenom II x2 was stronger but the whole 3 core thing had me wondering.
Thx for the replies, I can't wait to put this thing together and put a hammer to my e6300 and 9800gt
What about the memory. 4 gb or 8? I plan on upgrading to win7. I know the 64 bit version will see/use more memory but I only have 2 gigs now so 4 is a nice upgrade for me. Is 8 or more the way to go for gaming though since the board can hold 16? I see ultra mode is only asking for 4 -
Sorry, when someone is complaining about "low" FPS the first things I suggest are the biggest FPS killers. Sure, other FPS savers are depth of field and vertical sync help too. FPS matters alot depending on which zone you are in and server and when you are playing. If there is a MS raid or Hamidon Raid going on, you may experience lag related to that. Masterminds, Electric armor/powers, and fiery aura can also kill FPS rather quickly. Grandville too. There are two ways to balance it, start wit minimal Ultra settings go to the laggiest places in the game like Grandville or Talos Wentworths and then start adding settings until you get enough lag or start with maxed settings and work your way down.
Also resolution makes a big difference. OP was playing the game at 1920x1200.
Stick with 10.9 it seems to have less issues than 10.10 or 10.11
Quote:Not everyone would consider your settings "Maxed"I agree that the 5770 can run Ultra on full, but as you mentioned, the FPS will be only like 10-15. That's playable for some people. Personally I don't consider it very good at all and would turn down some settings if that was the case... but I still don't disable the Bloom or Occlusion you mentioned. Keeping those options at minimum (and everything else on full) still gives me all the nice effects of Ultra mode and my fps is still up around 50-60 consistently. The OP has a better processor and overall system than mine, so if I can run my 5770 at maxed FPS with all the options turned on, they should be able to as well. -
if your wondering yes, a 5770 can run CoH Ultra mode maxed out. Of course your FPS might not be at a "playable" level.
You'll have to find a happy medium of chrome/speed.
Yes, I own a 5770 video card and I don't consider maxed out settings playable. YMMV -
Another 6150 SE user.....
use 197.45 drivers. Later drivers seem to have issues with CoH. -
I've seen too many 8 and 9 series Nvidia video cards die in the last year or two.
Pretty classic symptoms of the card on its last legs before dying. I had an 8800 GTX and a 8800 GT do similiar things before going. Hope I am wrong on this one but if you have a friend with a spare video card it would be helpful just to make sure it isn't something else. -
5770 is a good card but its not going to run full out Ultra mode.
Scale a few things back and your fine.
Bloom and Ambient Occlusion should be off. I have a 5770 and it does quite well with ultra mode. -
....I would have one less reason to consider rolling a stalker.

Here is what I do. I go for cardiac boost since I find that alpha to be the most useful for the most characters. When you have 20+ 50s you don't always know what is best but it is a good idea to have it slotted and ready to go.
This is what I do. Block about 2 hours or so and do....
1 MS raid = about 500 vmerits + 3 shards. That will give you 3 Gr'ai matters. 2 is enough to get you most uncommons.
1 speed ITF = Ancient Nictus + 3 shards
I then take 1 Gr'ai matter, Ancient Nictus and 4 shards (convert to hero1 sample) and I got my Cardiac boost.
When the character is decked out and I have completed my mids build, then I think about seeing if another alpha would help, by then I would probably have enough to get whatever uncommon I want.
Best way to generate shards is go for "shard ITFs" Lots of targets and no shortage of people who want to run it. -
6 months ago I started looking at invention sets. I made lots of common IOs but I didn't really care about invention sets.
Now, I use IO sets heavily on 3 characters and I am working on getting more sets.
I would suggest reading some of the forum posts about Wentworths. Very helpful for generating funds.
Get Mid's build planner if you don't have it already.
There are lots of different ways to focus on IO sets.
1. Build for max defense. Quite a few sets are still really valuable because they boost defense. Kinetic Combats come to mind.
2. Build for max recharge. Many characters benefit from more recharge.
3. Frankenslotting. Trying to max out enhancement values per enhancement slot.
4. One slot wonders. Luck of the Gamblers and other Uniques like Steadfasts and Numinas. Also includes using procs.
5. Mixing and matching. Get as much as you can from recharge, defense, Frankenslotting and one slot wonders. -
2xp weekend is good news. How about a few character transfers so we can make room
