I hope they do give stalkers some attention. I'll believe it when I see it.
Until then, my stalker can collect dust. -
I think it comes down to knowing more details.
I think its possible that I will actually add in a free account and multibox. -
To OP:
More info would be nice for us to help you on this. Also, what country are you in? (Sometimes we forget that many players in CoH are not in the US)
1 GB to 2GB can make a modest difference, but don't expect a hot rod. I would assume you are running Windows XP or Linux? Please let us know, we can't mind read.

Thanks for the data Leandro.
It certainly confirms the "path of least resistance" for getting incarnate rewards. Other than challenge and Emp merits, BAF will still be the trial of choice.
Since its all about doing as many trials as fast as possible due to random drops. I don't really want to suggest "trial merits" since the last thing we need is another currency. -
I'll echo what father xmas said, intel graphics won't cut the mustard. Not even close. At best you can login to the game and do very basic out of game things like moving characters around for day jobs and marketeering.
Well, you can do doorsitting too....
You can do some solo missions and street sweeping with graphics set to minimum. It will still be a bit jerky with some lag. I don't consider that acceptable performance.
When the AMD Llano laptops finally push out the top of the line APUs, then we might be talking about something. I just hope they don't price themselves out of a market. The lowish end Llanos are selling for $600 and the mid end ones are in the mid $700 range. So it might be $900 which would put it in the range where intel cpu + discrete card is the better option. (sorry for the slight threadjack)
Sadly, I think if you want 17" screen and acceptable CoH performance you are looking at spending in the $1200 range at least if not more.
If you do get one, make sure to get extended warranties (gaming laptops are not known for having long lifespans) and get a GOOD laptop cooler (gaming laptops get really HOT). -
Heh, a Granite Stalker.
-
I've played each AT to 50. Here is how I think of them.
Tank - The Decoy
Scrapper - The Duelist
Brute - The Heavy
Stalker - The Ninja
Controller - The Control Freak
Dominator - (pre damage buff) The Happy fun button
Dominator - (current) The Wrecker
Defender - The Protector
Corruptor - The Scourge
Blaster - The Carpet Kisser
Mastermind - The Micromanager, The one man TF
VEATS - The OMG! Leadership is wonderful!
HEATS - The Cyst of Debt -
Like many "gaming laptops" make sure to get a beefy laptop cooler to keep the heat down on these things. Most of these things get really hot and I do mean hot.
17" screen will make the thing fairly heavy.
I find if you do want to buy one of these things, extended warranty is a good idea. Cost to repair after 1 year is usually enough that if something does blow (most only have a 1 year warranty), it would be cheaper to buy a new one. After 3 years you will have gotten your moneys worth out of the thing.
I'm dealing with a relative's Sony Vaio who uses it to play that "3 letter game we won't mention" well after 14 months it died. Just to send the thing to sony is $179.99 and "major repair" will cost $449-$600. So sucks to be him. I told him just buy a new one. Moral if you fork over big dough for a gaming laptop, fork over more for an extended warrany. It isn't that much more and considering the reliability of laptops, its good insurance.
YMMV. -
Its starting to become the norm on laptops now. Maybe there are others who have Nvidia based laptops with OPTIMUS. It should go smoothly into "gaming mode" with a quick blink while it swaps from IGP to discrete.
We all know the fun with ATI drivers right(Read all the posts about how much fun we have with ATI drivers) So things might not be greener (or in the case of ATI redder) on the other side of the street.
That said, the Llano based laptops might be what you are looking for. They just released a few models of laptops with Llano based APUs. It should offer "decent" gaming performance* for a laptop for about $700. Expect more to be released "soon"
*no comment about the term "gaming laptop" and performance. -
Well it would be nice if Dominators get something nice later.
Illusion control! -
Last time I checked, this game doesn't support crossfire.
-
It only applies to level 1 mobs. If your character is in the 1-5 range you will get 2x for beating on level 1s.
Roll a new character, beat on level 1 mobs, check out xp, beat on level 2 mobs check out xp. Level 1s will give more than level 2s. I've been letting the people in charge know about this bug for awhile now.
So if you are fresh out of outbreak (meaning you are level 2). level 1s should be 8, but they give 16. Level 2s will give 10. -
Its an old bug but level 1s give 2x xp.
-
AR/Dev blaster. I got to level 15 then deleted. I hated Teleport and weapon redraw and there was no way to respec characters other than re-rolling.
6 years later I resurrected that character as Traps/AR defender. -
Quote:Yeah, that would be real /facepalm, but I have yet to see that in a BAF yet. Most of the time I see people attacking too early, pulling to the helipad instead, or 3-4 brutes/tanks pulling NS/siege in different directions. No more /facepalm than three minutes with four different people saying "Pull Nightstar back to the middle of the courts" as the fight against her remains fixed at the northeast corner of the courts on a BAF...
There are many other ways to damage AM. I see wild pets attacking him, AoE damage auras and AoEs being used too close. -
Well, there are certainly more ways now to get threads from (non-trial) content which is good.
I will say one thing, the game has too many types of currency and i21 gives us, er more currency.
I'd rather they go down to 1 type of incarnate currency. At this point after I unlock the alpha slot with the arc I just go on trials now. -
BAFs for judgement were anywhere from 8% to 20% the old way.
Lambdas were 18% to 30% for interface.
Now with thread to ixp being cheaper, I can see more people running "speed BAFs" -
peter: welcome to the trials
11%? seems low, but maybe since league ixp is now shared we get less now.
peter: you can use threads to gain ixp if you wish, they lowered the cost to do that from 2.5m to 1m. -
Heh, after running on a Keyes last night and after people saying in league "don't attack AM" and seeing people beat on him /facepalm.
I can tell this trial will be really popular. -
Let me take a wild guess.
11.5 or 11.6 ATI video drivers.
Try rolling back video drivers. 11.3 is stable for me at least. Others say 11.2 or 11.4 are ok. -
Other than the chance of getting a name I want, I don't see myself using the VIP server that much.
I'm expecting the VIP server to be rather dead since people are mostly where they want to be already.
Quote:First off, I'm not thrilled about the hybrid business model Paragon Studios is going with. But it's going to happen whether I like it or not, so I'm not going to waste time complaining pointlessly about it. I'll wait and see how it plays out before making any decisions regarding my account status.
That's not what I wanted to address here though.
With the number of posts I've seen concerning character transfers to the VIP server, it concerns me that there is going to be a large exodus of VIP players moving to a server that free players can't access. This is potentially a very bad thing.
First, if enough currently subscribed players move their primary gaming activities to the VIP server, it is going to leave a false impression on new F2P players that the game is a lot more dead than it really is. With the "going F2P means the game is dying" impression that they may have already, logging in to find very few subscribed players and a lot of free players will just reinforce that impression. If a free player gets the impression that the game is in danger of going under, they will be much less likely to spend any money on it.
Second, those free players that stick around long enough to realize that a lot of people are on a server they can't access, it is going to make them feel like we don't think they are good enough to hang out with us. I know *I'd* get that impression if I started playing and the veterans seemed to be avoiding me by playing on a server I can't play on. I don't think I'd be too keen on playing a game in which I feel like a second class citizen. (and sadly enough, it seems that some people are already seeing free players that way, and they don't even exist yet)
Third, it is going to be hard enough for free players to get any questions they have answered without the more knowledgeable players being completely out of their reach. They can only talk in Local, Help, and Team chat. I'd be happy to answer questions myself, but if I'm super jumping through a zone the odds of me hearing a new player asking a question in Local aren't very good.
And lastly, the rush to go to the VIP server has me concerned about the quality of the community in general.
Granted, I understand that some people may be doing it to consolidate a multi-server SG, or to play with friends who have their main on another server. But, I really have to wonder how many people are wanting to do it just to not be bothered by the free players. That doesn't sound much like the "helpful and friendly community" I've come to love about this game. To be honest, it sounds more like the "collection of elitist snobs" I was afraid this game would turn into if we went to a free to play business model.
If that's the way the community evolves (or devolves) I'm going to be sad indeed, because it will mean one of my last reasons for sticking around as long as I have will have gone away.
So, please, take some of those things into consideration before deciding to jump ship to the VIP server and leaving all the free players to fend for themselves. -
Heroes/Villains and everyone else, be cafeful about updating video drivers if you are an ATI/AMD user. The newer drivers 11.5 and 11.6 are not good for game stability.
Some of the older ATI drivers are not good as well. 10.10 and 10.11. Anyways, just giving a heads up before you do something and blame CoX. Its all those Nemesis people working at ATI.... -
Not everything is rosy on the green side of the video card lawn. It wasn't that long ago when nvidia drivers killed a bunch of cards with the GPU fan driver bug. We had people here on the forums who had 8 and 9 series cards which died.
With maybe the exception of the GTX 560 Ti the AMD/ATI cards are generally a better value. At this point, its a tough call, but I think I still lean towards AMD/ATI. Now I won't lie in saying that I have been tempted to pick up a GTX 560 Ti but it is mostly a crossgrade and I have plenty of performance with a 6870. Now I might replace that old GTX 260 that is getting a bit old....
