We know the dps part. The question was how the WS compared to my fire dominator. DPS wise, the PB would probably be behind my emp defender.
Mainly because I simply won't use KB powers unless things are locked down with -KB. At high levels, by the time things are locked down the spawn is all but wiped out from LR and SC from a couple of scrappers.
PBs are pretty far down on the dps chart. On a team its arguable that they lower team dps due to the excessive KB and since a PB doesn't buff team members at all, the slot is generally better off given to someone who can buff the team or do more dps.
If these "buffs" go through, that will probably be it for a long time before PBs get looked at again. As long as they have excessive KB this AT will be a joke.
Quote:Edit: Now that my WS has Clarion, I don't care much about mez.No, they're not really all that close for damage for PBs. Energy Assualt's damage blows what PBs can do out of the water, and the comparison gets worse for Fiery Assault. Looking at straight damage numbers, Incandescent Strike is the closest thing to being competitive, but then it recharges and animates more slowly, as well as not being a ranged power (while Doms do have melee attacks, they do have mostly ranged attacks, and good ones at that, something that cannot be said for human form). And of course, PBs can't mez like any Dominator can easily do. Even if they got Pulsar at a guaranteed Mag 3 AND Solar Flare did KD, they wouldn't be in the same boat. -
Currently they are both level 53 with a mix of Common IO and SO slotting. Just starting to work on sets for them. I think the dom just got Numinas to help with end issues.
Pre 50s my Dom died alot more than the WS. With no heal and lower resists but more damage its not unexpected. Team composition matters on teams with a 1-2 buffers the WS is pretty much unkillable. It takes 3-4 to push the Dominator to that level.

Correct, you can go into catalyst center and disable auto update. However, its another hoop to have to jump through. Given the stabily of ATI lately, I'll let someone else be the guinea pig.
-
There I posted!
I doubt it will do much, but what the hey, it only took 3 minutes to make a post. -
Comparing my WS to my fire/fire/fire dominator, I would say they are fairly close in damage but I would give the edge to the dominator. The Dom has more single target, control and Mez protection but the Warshade is much tougher. Its a fairly reasonable tradeoff.
I certainly appreciate Smiling_Joe and Grey Pilgrim keeping this topic alive for PBs
My first fix for PBs would be to change KB to KD. I don't see why that is so hard to change. -
Quote:This is the best suggestion.Honestly, if you can get away with it. Get yourself a decent laptop for school work (college student), and build yourself a (relatively) inexpensive gaming workstation. It'll be cheaper and easier in the long run than trying to cram all your expectations into a laptop.

Welcome fellow ATI owner.
11.3 for me was the last stable drivers for the game (others have had better luck with 11.4, 11.5 and 11.2)
As soon as I saw your post, I knew what the problem was -
Welcome to team Red (ATI).
You can expect unstable drivers as ATI lately has been throwing many wild pitches with their drivers lately. While they fire strikes with video cards, their drivers are well....
Try 11.8 and hope.
If it isn't stable try 11.4 and work your way down. 11.5 and later have an auto update pushing you to the latest and greatest drivers /sarcasm
Edit: 6870, 5770 and 5750 owner so please don't call me an Nvidia fanboy. -
Personally, I like fire/fire/fire Then again, I am a PBAoE fan.
If the team is good at keeping you alive, your dealing out lots of AoE. Just skip Bonfire in the ancillary and your good to go.
I would almost think if you like Drain Psyche you might be better off playing a Dominator.
Blaster Sonic isn't popular. The -res isn't that high and the set is mostly single target. Your only area attack is howl. Shockwave is a low damage area knockback power that will make many teammates mad at you. While people may not say anything if you use it, there will be lots of excuses to leave after the mission is over.
Edit: You are buffing, a dead mob is a 100% debuff. -
Path of Least Resistance.
I've seen too many dumb things on Keyes to the point where I just won't run on it much anymore. I've seen at least 1-2 numbskulls beating on AM.
The Keyes trial almost needs giant red letters saying "Character is damaing Anti-Matter!" So the whole trial knows who is messing that part up.
Maybe if Keyes was worth 3 Emp merits I'd run on it more, but for 1 its better to run one BAF and one LAM and move on to the next character for emp merit farming. -
Yeah, what Hyper and Santa said.
To run CoH on a laptop at a level I would (IMHO) consider decent, you are probably looking at $1200 or more.
I have not seen game performance on the new AMD Llano based laptop yet but I am seeing the 3500M models starting to roll out and the prices in the $600-750 range now. Without actually using such a laptop myself in person I can't comment as to how good it is. Its still a little on the pricey side but maybe they will be in the $450-500 range by Christmas.
If your expecting a laptop to dual box, well your looking at $3000 or more and serious laptop cooler to keep the heat down. Probably a good A/C unit for your room too. -

Heh, I think Diesel has it right on this one.
There are people who think the Ford Pinto was the best car Ford ever made and it should be still sold today! Heck how many thousands of people ran out and bought Cadillac Cimmarons?
Step 1: Admit there is a problem
Step 2: Fix it
Been done with stalkers for awhile now.I'll be more than happy to come back when they get fixed.
Quote:Its amazing how many people refuse to admit that an AT has a genuine problem, and then further ignore that the people who want it fixed arent saying 'Make Stalkers into scrappers'.
While we're at it, HEATs are absolutely fine and never need a buff again, Dual Pistols and Elec Blast are the top performing sets in the game, and Dominators getting an AT revamp is a waste of developer time. -
It would make about as much sense as playing a melee type where you take no shield and no mez protection and use pool powers for your attacks.
Ah yes, reminds me of Brawlman.
Quote:I mostly play melee characers, and some ranged/support too, but always DPS based.
I mean, scrappers, brutes, blasters, dominators and corruptors.
I have this crazy thing in my mind, about petless masterminds.
How would they work?
Soloing possible with a, lets say demon (Whip) Storm, Heat mastery?
Anyone got any experience with this weird thing?
Are they worth it to try and level?
Thank you! -
I actually saw this happen on the system window
I like it. The only time I changed a character name was to remove my initials. Free xfers were good for that.
Quote:Old name: Yydr
New name: Llydia
Reason - short version: Too much thinking and too little sleep.
Up for discussion: Have you ever changed a character name? Your global name? Your forum name? Any other names (besides from marriage)? What lead to the decision, and did you like the result?
Also, do you have difficulty getting people to pronounce your name(s) correctly? If so, how do you react?
Reason - long version: A ramble to entertain myself. I don't really expect anyone else to read further.
Mostly I blame Comicsluvr's thread What's In a Name? It got me thinking of why I care about my character names. A lot of thinking. That much thinking can be dangerous.
It lead to me realizing that while I had let it slide for years, it bothered me that my main, Dynexus, was usually referred to as a 'he'. As was I! I gave into an impulse and paid for a rename token to make her Ms Dynexus. "There!" I thought, "Now there can be no question to her, and I, being female." How disappointing when there was no change. The same proportion of references were he. When I bemoaned that neither my character nor I were referred to as 'she', a player remarked that they thought I was faking it.
Faking it? While we are still the minority, female gamers are hardly a rarity anymore.
I decided to run a silent experiment while I teamed. As people joined, I tried to guess from their global names if their players were male or female, then learn the answer from observing how people referred to themselves. Turns out I got it wrong most of the time. Even other characters I saw with 'Ms' in the character name were dubious as many were parodies. And what about characters that were horrendously disproportional with little modesty? Hard to think of that player as female. In the end I, too, was guilty of assuming someone was male unless another player consistently referred to a third player as she/female.
Before I had arrived at that conclusion, however, I decided to take more drastic measures. If people couldn't tell that Yydr was female then I would choose something more traditional. Something obvious that no man would claim. I can't remember how many names I considered. Probably hundreds. Normally I try to avoid any name that is close to myself or people I have know for internet security purposes. I like it best when I invent a name that gets zero search results in Google. That gets harder every year. After some deliberation I suspended that rule to choose Lydia. Besides, I have liked the name Lydia since a girl a few doors down and a few years older was a good influence and friend to me as a teenager.
Except that there were already several variations of Lydia on the forums, and I still had a craving to be unique. I'd like to claim that I came up with Llydia as a tribute to the double-Y of Yydr. But the truth is that variation was inspired by The New Alphabet song. Specifically how the part "L is for llama. / Hey wait a second, what's so special about llama? / Well, you know, it starts with two l's. / What's the second one for? / I don't know. Maybe to give the first one moral support." made me laugh.
Thus I settled on the full name of Llydia Verety (meaning: "Noble" and "Truth"), though I doubt Verety will be used much beyond this post.
So after psyching myself up to it, I changed my global name at 4 am. Honestly I was a bit surprised that going from @Yydr to @Llydia worked. I thought my name defaulted to @Dynexus when global names were first introduced and I had used my one-time change to make it @Yydr. Wasn't going to complain that somehow I had picked up an extra global rename token in the intervening years.
Yes, when I woke up later in the day something like buyer's remorse kicked in as I worried that maybe I could have come up with a better name. Thankfully that didn't last. In fact, the longer I have been Llydia, the more thrilled I become.
Some pros of Yydr:
- Unique
- Short (a big plus when sending myself in-game emails)
- Familiar
- Aged (it has become rare to see people misspell it as Yddr, Ydrr, etc)
Biggest downside of Yydr:
- No one could say it correctly more than two times in a row, even when instructed that Yydr is pronounced "yɪh-dər" which rhythms with "bidder"
Some pros of Llydia:
- Easier spelling (people have commented that Yydr was hard for them to type)
- Feminine
- Common pronunciation of "LID-ee-ah"
- It is more 'me'
- I smile big every time I see my new name
Thus far the City Of Heroes community members that have noticed the change have been very supportive. Thank you for encouraging the decision to be more myself! -

We're hiding silly!
Kidding. Well when i21 hits I'll try my luck with another stalker, but it still doesn't change anything about the AT being "underperforming"
AoE is king!
Scary thought, I'm actually looking at skipping AS and placate on my next stalker.
Either I will respec out of them or my main "teaming" build will skip them. Solo build will keep them. -
I hope it does happen, even if I have to rebuild a few blasters as a result.
Here is my take.
1. Should crashless nukes happen?
A. Yes! The sooner the better. With incarnate Judgement, there is no longer a reason for crashing nukes anymore. (I've already spec'ed out of them)
2. What if they don't make the change?
A. I'll keep using HoB, FA, and RoA. Thank incarnate Judgements at 50.
3. Why should they make the change?
A. Lightning Rod and Shield Charge nuff said. -
No such thing as too much AoE.
Personally, I am a PBAoE fan. -
Agreed S_J.
Guess its gather more dust on my PB.
Couple last comments.
My suggested changes.
1. KB to KD. (one fix would be to increase the mag gain from slotting KB enhancements) (or null the gull ability to toggle between KB and KD)
2. PBs should have some team wide buffing ability. Very sad that villain EATs are wonderful teamers/party buffers with double leadership. While HEATs don't help the team much at all buff wise. (if anything make the team slower with excessive KB) While the PB has incentive to be part of a team, the team doesn't have much incentive to invite a PB. -
Hmm, let me think. Beta test server sadly leeched away some time
dp/kin cor 42>50
dp/en blaster 42>43
demon/dark mm 38>39
traps/AR Def 42>46
ice/ice tank 38>39
Was tempted to make a new character, but I'll wait until i21 at this point. I have enough characters to work to 50 as it is. -
This is why I don't play my PB anymore. Too much KB on a team character that teams don't want. Brilliant!
Fixes take way too long. Just changing all the KB to KD means I can at least play my PB again. All this dust is sad.
Quote:I have been saying this for years.. I have directly emailed the Devs about this issue..
There is NO REASON WHATSOEVER why Solar Flare is totally different from every other incarnation of this power in the game..
I am a PB.. I have strong melee.. I use Solar Flare.. now every damn foe is out of my melee range.. yay...
I am a PB.. I have Solar Flare.. I use it on teams.. It scatters folks in every direction.. People HATE that on teams.. So basically on a team I NEVER USE THE POWER..thats a great solution...
Pulsar a weak stun that takes waaaaaay to long to animate.. I wouldnt mind the animation if the stun was a mag 3 but it isnt and GP as already pointed out it is WEAKER than the Warshade AoE Mez power and they should have SOME balance.
And to say they are worried about PB's becoming overpowered is utterly ridiculous. Overpowered compared to what ?? The Warshade which is already way better ?? The VEAT's???? Come on please.. stop.... -
7% for males and 1/2% for females.
It will come up since if you have a class of 30 students. If you have 15 boys (half a class) one or two will be color vision deficient.
There are several types. red/green can be from a lack of red receptors or green receptors. -Green is the most common form.
There is also blue/yellow. It is also possible to be -red and -blue, or -red and -green and rarer cases where the person has no cone cells at all.
I don't know where common starts and uncommon ends. Its a numbers game and this is something that should be a consideration for design.
Quote:I don't know. 6% of the world population was me just wiking itCuz hearing it be faily common I was curious, so I thought I had to check.
Just didn't seem fairly common to me.
2% of the population has red hair (which I have) and I never thought red hair was a fairly common trait.
But even if that was case, I don't think it's something the devs should take into consideration at all, when it comes to colors of effects.
If they did, we'd have very limited use of color. -
Yydr and Zwill
Thanks for the great BAF runs. BAF runs now will never be the same. Those runs are the gold standard of how BAFs should be run.
Later on in the evening I got to experience some failed trials.Scary what a difference good players can make.
Pleasure teaming with you all.
