Reminds me of a certain RTS game where a new unit would be released on Fridays....
Well this weeks item is well....not so good. I suppose they could have been selling us Peacebringers. Oh wait. -
Quote:Interesting.Hmm.. an interesting read, but (regardless of what devs designed it for) I always saw the pairup as follows:
Blaster: Corruptor
Defender:dominator
Controller:Mastermind
Tanker:Brute
Scapper:Stalker
That's how I always saw the counterpart system honestly.
For me its...
Blaster:dominator - Both do lots of DPS but no buffs.
Defender:Corruptor - Buff and damage. Stronger buffs from Defender and better damage from Corruptor
Controller:Mastermind - Pets and support
Tanker:Brute - Both do crowd control but Tanks are tougher and Brutes do more damage.
Scrapper:Stalker - Big Brother Scrapper and little brother stalker.
When I make teams people fall into 3 catagories
DPS: Brutes, Scrappers, Blasters, Stalkers, Corruptors and Dominators. VEATS, Warshades
Support: Defenders, Controllers, Corruptors, Masterminds
Tanks: Tanks, Brutes -
Was about to start another thread about the Seed of Hamidon being lonely like Lusca.

What TJ said...
In my experience I had a fairly big performance bump going from an Athlon II 630 to Phenom II 965. The L3 cache on the Phenom II chip really made a difference for me and it made trial lag go away. YMMV -
The 6770 (aka 5770 rebadged) can most certainly run ultra mode with the athlon II. It might be vulnerable to lag on trials and zone events but it should handle mid level UM just fine.
Edit: I would measure how much room you have for the Graphics card. I installed a 560Ti in my friend's HP and barely had a 1/2" an inch to spare. To think, I liked that card since it was short compared to the 6870 I had. :/ -
All I can tell you is, if you find a hole in the wall petition it.
If you want to use Gale and other KB powers when there is a chance things will get stuck in a kill all mission well, you knew the risks.
I agree, this shouldn't be a problem, but there are plenty of other bugs I would love to see fixed too.
Unless the bug generates MARTy, it will be fixed "Soon" (tm) -
Buying DDR2 RAM is a dead end. Save up for a bigger CPU + MB + memory upgrade.
-
That chip is helped by faster memory unlike the intel where memory speed is negligible.
Sadly, if you are buying this from a brick and mortar store it will most likely have the slowest DDR3 RAM they can stick in there. I suspect they are sticking in 1333 memory vs say 1866.
Having seen the difference between the athlon II vs Phenom II, the lack of L3 cache really hurts zoning speeds with the athlon II. Having swapped an Athlon II 630 to a Phenom II 965 made trials go from laggy to fairly smooth and zoning times went from 20-25 seconds to 10-12. All I did was change my CPU...
I do agree its better than the integrated graphics 4200 system, but this system won't be playing CoH in Maxed out Ultra mode. It will be low UM settings with ok to low framerates or mid levels with lots of lag. -
don't use Knockback!
TP Foe would fix it. If only that was a temp power we could craft rather than that silly revolver or St Louis Slammer.... -
Memory is so cheap, I would just buy 2x2GB and call it done.
That being said, how much do you have now? If you already have 2GB, going to 3 or 4 GB won't make much difference for CoH anyways.
Another forumite said it did but after testing my machine with 2GB and 4GB even after 4 trials on each configuration and playing for 3+ hours there was no difference in game performance.
Now if you have 1GB then yes, get more. If you already have 2GB, I would say it would be wiser to start saving up for a computer upgrade where you replace the MB, CPU and get DDR3 memory. -
4200 will play CoH with minimal settings and I am not talking about ultra mode.
The Llano based chip with the 6550 will be somewhere in the range of a 5670. Meaning, it will be good for normal mode but downright awful on Ultra mode. It can "run" ultra mode with very minimal settings but settings at levels where I would just downgrade to maxed out normal mode and be happy. -
AMD's Bulldozer is "disappointing" I would suggest going intel...I could say other things about Bulldozer but I won't. Getting a BD chip at this time would be a bad move.
Surya's advice is good for CoH...2500K and a single 580 is more than plenty. With those two items you would be way ahead of the curve. (Considering some of the PCs I see people playing on CoH) By the time your falling down to the upper 20% Ivy Bridge would be out and maybe AMD will have gotten all of the "issues" with Bulldozer sorted out with the Piledriver chip.
Otherwise, go with what Hyper and Xmas suggest. -
Quote:It made TFs more lucrative to players who were not already 50. Just like teaming before SSK. Level 25 team wants more people but only level 30+ are available but why join for no xp? Now the 30+ can join the team and still get xp (making it worthwhile)Slightly off topic, but I'm curious. Why was Exemplaring changed so that you still gain XP while exemping? Was it make TFs a bit more pointed to start at the appropriate level ranges?
back on topic. DFB I would say my limit is 2 runs on a character. Heck, I prefer 1 because I want to get the AP Safeguard before I hit 10.
I could see myself using DFB on a higher level character if I am say a bubble or two from a level. Heck, even a whole level if I am on 11, 16, 21, 26, 31 or 36. Hate those evil levels that end with a 1 or 6..... -
Quote:Surgery is never fun.This...
Although for me I can't take any PTO from work because I'm saving all my PTO days up for next year when I get my BSSO surgery done...surgeon said I will need to take off at least 14 days heh...Pretty major stuff if your going to be out for 14 days or more...

Thanks Z
Soundling like I might make this a 3 day trip. Its been 12 years since I have been in Palo Alto. -
All this talk about beef
making me hungry!
I'll have visit Schaub's too now....I blame TJ.
Zwill, update? -
I have been patient about it since they had plenty of items to fix, however it does indeed look like were going to have to arm twist to get our tokens
-
I was 3 days short of getting my 60 month badge on Sept 15th. Still no token for 60 months, 5 years and nothing for october yet.
-
I'll be there. I'll bring a few boardgames too!
Edit: You can tell who the out of towners are in SF, they are the people walking around in shorts in July....
November weather should be mid 50s to 60s with a decent chance of rain. Check weather.com just before you leave. -

certainly in standard mode. I know my 5670 can do that as well. Ultra mode is another story.
Well, you are at a point where every little detail would need to be gone over because its reaching a point where a re-install of windows will answer more questions vs time wasted trying out different things.
We can't mind read what your situation is, we can only come up with possible conclusions based on what info you give us. Having done support over the phone and in person support, I often see very different things than what is described.
Based on the earlier posts you had an 8400 GS, GT 520 and GT 430 in your machine and a power supply swap out? So lots of things have the potential of mucking things up. Software issues, hardware issues we need to start on tracking down the issue. -
Well, looking over all of the info, something isn't adding up.
Looking over the machine's info over at HP, onboard video is the default option. GT 430 isn't much of an upgrade over a 520 or 8400. 430 GT is a pretty awful card. Since were trying to establish if this thing even works, I would suggest pulling out the video card and running off the onboard graphics.Purely for diagnostic purposes of course!
Lets see how it runs on the older drivers I suggested with onboard video. If that fails, I am almost to the point of suggesting backing up all your data and re-installing windows.
Quote:He was using an 8400 GS previously, not the onboard video chipset.
He has the GT 430 now. That card isn't supported with the 197.45 drivers. The oldest drivers I can find for that card are the 260.89 drivers from last October.
Win7 64-bit
But I agree, a new CoH Helper would be appreciated. -
It would be helpful for you to run coh helper again and post your results.
Doing a quick model search of your HP might have given us a clue.
GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 is the MB chipset. If I recall correctly, this onboard video is very old and is not stable on the more recent Nvidia graphics drivers. I'll have to dig up the forum posts, because I don't recall which drivers you need but I do remember you need a very old driver.
Edit: here we go. seach fu....use 197.45 drivers. Later drivers seem to have issues with CoH. -
Honestly speaking if your running a 920 with x58 your way ahead of the curve compared to most CoX players. While switching over to 1155 SB is an upgrade, its a fairly minor one. Some might argue its a horizonatal one.
If you are feeling the itch to upgrade, I would be looking at other parts of your rig/setup. How good is your Monitor? At this point, I would go with "not enough info" for suggestiions. I suspect money might be better spent elsewhere.
Stick with the big Motherboard makers, Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock. There are a few others which are ok like MSI and Biostar. You will get into trouble when you start buying the really cheap MBs from ECS where places like Frys literally give them away. RMA support is going to be a pain from just about everywhere so buy from newegg or someplace that has good customer support so you don't have to deal with the Motherboard company. Most often on motherboards, you get what you pay for.
I have not bought an EVGA motherboard, but I never had any issues with their RMA the one time I had to deal with them.
