AMD now has 11.12 and 12.1 Preview out. Updated list
-
This problem pop up every month or so.
Video Device Name: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
This chipset IGP has issues with CoH try using 197.45 nvidia drivers.
(I guess nvidia users need a safe drivers list too, pity I don't have old nvidia cards to test with. I just have the GTX 260 now) -
Quote:Honoree mission: Autocomplete is the trick.A staple of poorly written superhero stories perhaps. Not exactly the branch of the source material that I would advocate emulating.
Could you elaborate on this?
The Honoree mission is the only one that I go out and actively recruit help for because I can't seem to solo it with any of my toons. That last room with two Elite Bosses and a horde of Conscripts (with, what, four portals? spamming the room with more Rikti) makes it utterly undoable. What is the trick? -
A little search fu might help.
My topic about safe AMD drivers
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=278655
11.9 is generally considered to be the "most stable" of the drivers.
You also don't list which 69xx AMD card you have. -
Ugh, not 11.11
11.9
Quote:Turn off Windows Updates.
- Start Button
- In the search box type Windows Updates.
- Down the left-hand side, click Change Settings.
- Reboot into Safe Mode.
- Control Panel
- Programs
- Uninstall a program
- Strip out any ATI drivers.
- Run a driver cleaner
- Since you're on ATI, you'll want to decide whether to install something like the 11.3 drivers (the ones people seem to have had the fewest problems with). or the 11.11 (the very latest).
- Also (not sure if ATI has it since I haven't touched ATI in years), if it gives an option for a "clean" install, take it.
- Reboot and turn Windows Updates back on.

Hey there
CPU is easy, go with the evil empire: Intel SB 2500K
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115072
A nice Asus Z68 MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131792
G.skill memory to finish it off.

There you go.
You might want to add this Heatsink and fan to keep the cpu quiet and cool

Pretty amazing if that is true. I'll have to track down someone with something similiar and verify. With a 1600x900 screen too...
(Somehow though I don't belive it, but a good tech always investigates. It sounds like a 3am ad for a Clanket)
Edit did some research: The model has been replaced with versions with faster processors. Walmart has the AS7750G with an i5-2430M for $510. Not bad of a price but I am suspicious about how well the intel HD3000 performs.
Quote:I appreciate all the feedback. I think I'll just get the one best suited for my other needs and not worry about coh on it.
I posted this laptop because I have it for work and downloaded coh on it and it runs phenomenally at minimum graphics up to the medium setting. I was quite surprised. I have never received lag even on 24 man bafs. Also I am usually one of the first to zone into missions or trials.
I never thought it would even run the game, but it does and works great. -
I've had no issues with the NCsoft launcher at least with City of Heroes.
Now with a certain other NCSoft game a couple of years ago, it was pretty awful. I was expecting the switchover to be painful, but it turns out to be just another change for the better. -
Ugh, none of these would run the game at an acceptable* level.
*for me
As said by Hyperstrike, its going to be about expectations.
Short answer: Yes it will run the game.
Long answer: These processors would have a hard time vs computers from 6 years ago. The E series (Brazos) is a low power CPU for netbooks not gaming machines. On certain tasks is almost as good as a Pentium 4Other tasks a Pentium 4 is 2-3 times faster.
As long as you know what IGP + "Pentium 4 class" CPU speeds mean then that should answer the question.
If this machine is just being used so you can PL a character who is going to doorsit or marketeer, then its perfect.
Quote:Honestly, as long as you're not expecting blazing performance, super-high resolutions or stupid-high graphical settings you should be okay.
Load times are a byproduct of how fast your network connection is, how fast your storage medium (disk drive) is, and how fast your CPU can churn stuff.
On a laptop, expect longer load times unless you're running an SSD. -
I just checked with a friend who has the exact same comptuer as I do who is running 11.3 drivers and is experiencing the intermittent crashes.
I have not seen these on my end with a mix of 11.3, 11.9 and 11.10. I don't really get this one yet.
For now I am just going to play more and see what happens. -
I always tell people the more information we have the greater the chance we can piece together a common reason for the crashes (assuming its software related which it often is)
-
-
Most of us just want something that works.
-
Well we know the 11.11 drivers are bad. At least one person says 11.11a is ok but I have yet to test it. I don't like suggesting using 11.11a because you have to dig on the AMD site to use those.
-
-
Maybe you hit on something. I just saw a post in my thread about someone else with a 4800 series card getting crashes since 12/6 patch.
No those drivers have been good with the 4xxx cards for a long time.

I now have a 4650 running wtih 11.9 in normal mode at recommended at 60 fps. Not bad for a 3 year old bargain card. Quality I get 40 fps with slight lag and Ultra I get 20 fps and lots of lag. No way am I going to try Ultra mode with this card.

Sooner or later a VIP iTrial staging zone will need to be made...or just play on Exhalted.
Quote:There is another reason why league leaders begin to insist on at least a +1 level shift on iTrial toons: it removes the possibility of inadvertantly inviting a non-VIP to the league.
And lest anyone underestimate the frustration that builds from trying to form a full BAF or Keyes league and not being able to enter the queue because one or more people are not VIP (and either don't realize it or won't fess up to it), it can ruin one's evening. One particular league I had joined wasted a good 30 minutes trying to work this issue out. The league leader (with virtually the entire support of the league, mind you) began trying to weed out players that weren't at least +1 just out of desperation.
So before we ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by an inadequate set of iTrial league formation tools, it might help to know that there are some valid reasons for this kind of invite filtering. -
Well in AMD's case its a supply problem on the 32nm parts and the shaky relationship with Glofo.
The Llano and Brazos chips are actually decent (for their market segment) its really the bulldozer chips that didn't deliver. -
I'm sure Father Xmas and Hyperstrike have heard this...
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd...zer,14173.html
Looks like the only Phenom IIs coming to the market are the 960T (reject x6 supply) its for sale at the 'egg for $124.99. Looks like the 1090T is sold out and probably not going to come back
Sigh, baby out with the bathwater for AMD...First a disappointing chip with Bulldozer and now killing off their venerable but still decent (for low end) Athlon II and Phenom II line. Probably getting rid of them because they compete too well with the Bulldozer and Llano chips. -
C'mon we gotta get you working! -
Speaking as a DIY builder of computers, keep in mind any boutique builder has to make a profit for their time. Most of the mass market builders (Dell, HP, gateway, acer etc) don't make gaming machines.
You could try looking at cyberpower pc for a custom rig. I'm sure hyperstrike has serveral listed there. (personally, I don't like the parts that cyberpower pc uses but I'm pretty picky)
Your budget is at least realistic, but you won't "max" out UM for $1000 but you will have something that will play the game with most of the bells and whistles at a close to "max" setting. -
That was a fairly popular "gaming" laptop.
If those settings work, please let us know. I'm sure there are other P79 users out there.
Quote:Hmm... I thought I posted that already but perhaps not.
Manufacturer: Gateway
Model: P-79
Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz 2.53GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System
It runs Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. It's a pretty sexy "gaming laptop", if those truly exist.

While scrolling through the Gameplay/Technical Issues & Bugs section, I came across another thread of a person who has the exact same issue as me.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=274745
Advice was given there that I followed. I'll update again if my video card crashes.
